Media

I saw this ad in the newspaper before, so I looked for it today in AlWatan’s pdf format (the only positive thing about that newspaper is that they keep the ads in their pdf format), and luckily I found it and was able to save it for the blog.

This is a Skoda ad done for AlGhanim automotive.

(the names and arrows were added by me just in case you weren’t sure)

The idea is simple, a typical teenager in his room wearing his headphones being hip and cool and having posters of his favorite things on his wall, family, friends, singers and so on….and a skoda. So far so good, no problems with the concept so far.

In an attempt to localize the ad, the agency added Arab musicians too. My question is, is using these celebrities legal??? I am sure Ronaldinho, Brad Pitt, and Ricky Martin are not being paid to promote Skoda cars!! I doubt that Haifa Wahby or Nancy Ajram promotes these cars either ….. so how can they use their images in these ads???

Anyone know who did this ad?

My last post was about another example of some sloppiness found in most Kuwaiti government organizations.

BUT …. thumbs up to whoever is in charge of the PAAF website, for actually fixing the problem in less than a day!

I would like to think that this blog had something to do with them changing it, since it was changed right after it was highlighted in this blog thanks to an email from Judy Abbott (and thanks to Loyal Reader for pointing out the change).

You can see the old mistakes in the earlier post, but look at the new and improved header of the same website 24 hours later -

and just in case its too small to read ….

SUCCESS!! Im actually very happy and proud that it was changed this quickly and not just ignored :)

(and I like the addition of the sheep to replace the bird that could be sick with the flu)

Another example of how the internet has given regular people like us more power with technology! First, the 5 districts, now pubic to public!! Hooray!

Its all a Jewish conspiracy! They OWN Saturdays! All banks and investment companies are on in the Jewish conspiracy!!  Who cares about economic reasons??? Islam is the way!

Tarzan make translate … again -

This time its from AlWatan yesterday.

The problem is that its a headline!!

A friend of mine sent me this by email earlier today, it was in yesterday’s AlQabas page 36 -

This is perfect because it comes right after my post about Ghiras’s translation problems, and the show is apparently on the new Ghiras TV!! I really hope they keep it that way and don’t fix it!

Ghiras have done many public awareness campaigns regarding smoking, drugs, child abuse, and so on, and most of them have actually been good, unlike Rekaaz’s campaigns which try to teach us how to raise our children and how we should make our morals just like theirs, and nothing towards helping Kuwait or the society in general! Rekaaz is basically a propaganda machine created purely to raise the profile to Mohammed AlAwathi and push his views!

Anyway, the reason I mention Ghiras is that I was checking up their website in English and they need to check their translations. It looks like they went to someone like these guys, and went for exact literal tranlations instead of the meaning of the campaigns -

Tarzan make translate.

Thanks to Vincent who left a comment in my last post about Conan and Jay Leno … This was found in today’s AlRai newspaper -

I wrote a post recently about stopping Conan’s show on showtime and how annoying it was and I was surprised with responses I got and the support the cause got! I guess someone at Orbit cared enought to put it as an article in the newspaper!

This COULD be a reason to switch, if it wasn’t for showtime getting the English Premier League next season!

Snickers always have their commercials on any channel with football, which means that I am often exposed to these ads.

Watch it -

When I first saw their latest ad, I thought it was cool and all but what does it have to do with Snickers … and then I saw their slogan “Don’t Stop” and remembered, and the ad jumped straight to become one of my favorite ads!

Then I found out from some friends that the music for the ad is by Army of One, a Kuwaiti rap group. The song is called Let’s Roll (sample) and it is from their new album, Hush.

What made me love this ad more than just the fact that it was a great ad was that it was -

  • Created by a local agency - Impact / BBDO, Dubai
  • Filmed in Saudi
  • The music used has been taken from a local band

I am not 100% about this, but apparently there is another US version made from the same ad, with the only difference being the music, where Limp Bizkit and Snoop Dogg replacing Army of One with their “Red Light Green Light” song. Watch it and be the judge as to which one you prefer….I personally like the Army of One ad, especially the end part, the music is alot more energetic and goes with the action!
