This got me to think about the quality of food. Is the food really THAT good or is it just the fact that we have been programmed to adapt to this specific food as what Chinese food should be? Don’t get me wrong, the food is definitely good (otherwise it wouldn’t be full day after day, year after year) and I have to them credit for being very consistent in the quality, but I wonder if its the case because of our pallets being used to it and / or the nostalgia attached to the restaurant.  

Peacock is some sort of national landmark now for Kuwaitis in Kuwait. It is one of the few restaurant where you always see families. I can’t think of any other restaurant that has been there for so long and has always attracted people regardless of age group (meaning it never was a “habba” or a just passing fad).

The only other one that comes to mind is Mais AlGhanem, but I am sure there are others, any suggestions?

In Kuwait we have three options as everyone knows, Zain, Wataniya, and Viva.

This is the result of my research and I called each company twice to make sure that the phone rep I was talking to wasn’t making anything up. Of course before that I went to their websites, which I will mention later.

The obvious choice was Viva, which I am currently using. It is my first interaction with Viva and my first comment has to be that even though the price and package are the best, their customer service ppl are nowhere as good as the other two companies. It took a while to explain what I wanted for the Viva reps (I called them 3 times to make sure they all give me same plan details).

The person I got the card from at their branch was very nice but again she didn’t really understand what I wanted it and gave me a wrong price which I had to correct her and used their website as proof! She was honest enough to tell me that their coverage is not full in Kuwait but I i’ll wait and see how that affects the service for me. My wataniya line has issues when I go to the shalaih so I know not expect perfection anyway when it comes to coverage. As for Zain, what can I say? Most expensive and least usage plan, doesn’t make sense at all! Another reason (there are many) I’m glad I switched from them 4 yrs ago!

As for the websites, the one thing that pissed me off about all three is that in one place or another they all mention “fair usage policy”, but none of them actually has that policy on their sites! As for the usefulness of each website in terms if information, Viva had the most detailed info but finding that info was weird, it wasn’t under the Internet section, but under a “surf on” section! Wataniya had it as “Wnet Prepaid” under the Wnet section which made sense but had the least useful info of the three. Zain’s info was decent under Mobile Internet but obviously they did not mention the usage limit, just “subject to fair usage policy” without going into specifics.

So anyway, there you go. Hope this chart helps!

أعلنت هيئة الطيران المدني السعودي، أنها تسلمت قائمة محظورات أميركية، تشمل تفتيش «مؤخرات» الركاب.

وذكرت في بيان امس، أنها تسلمت من واشنطن، محظورات جديدة، ضمن 14 دولة من المفترض تطبيقها على الراغبين في السفر الى الولايات المتحدة، بما فيها تفتيش مؤخرة الراكب.

وجاء في حيثيات التعميم الصادر، أن السلطات الأميركية تنوي تفتيش «مؤخرة الراكب»، ويشمل القرار السعودية والجزائر ولبنان وليبيا والعراق ونيجيريا وباكستان والسودان وافغانستان والصومال وسورية واليمن وإيران وكوبا.

وتشمل المحظورات أيضاً، المنع من دخول دورات المياه للركاب المنتمين لهذه الدول قبل ساعة من وصول الرحلة إلى أي من المطارات الأميركية، مع منعهم من تغطية أجسامهم بالبطانيات خلال الرحلة. كما تقضي بضرورة خضوع المسافرين لعمليات التفتيش العشوائي اليدوي الذي يشمل مؤخرة الراكب والمناطق الحساسة في جسده، وتحظر على قادة الطائرات إبلاغ الركاب عن معالم المدن الأميركية أو تحديد موقع الطائرة أو تحديد اتجاه قبلة الصلاة مع مراقبة أي راكب يذهب إلى دورة المياه خلال فترة الإقلاع أكثر من مرة ومنع دخول السوائل بشكل مطلق إلى الطائرة.

كما تتضمن إجراءات التفتيش استخدام أجهزة إشعاعية تظهر جسد المسافر عاريا مع إضافة مراقبين أمنيين إلى صالات الطيران لمراقبة تحركات الركاب ومراقبة المناطق الخفية في المطار، خصوصا دورات المياه.
