Anyone who reads my blog knows I’m a fan of Wataniya telecom. I switched my line from Zain to Wataniya after 10 years with Zain and I don’t regret it at all. I do have some criticism about their internet compared to Zain, but that’s not for this post.
So apparently Wataniya have their 10 year anniversary going on at the moment, with ads in various papers. A quick look at the ad shows how its a typical telecom ad with people smiling on the phone. But if you take a closer look, notice the “Kuwaiti” men in the picture.
Wow. This looks like the khaleeji look in Egyptian movies! Guy on left’s dishdasha is waay too big, guy on right’s is waay too tight, look at the shoulder stitching thing. Both sleeves are messed up too. Collars are almost nonexistent on both. And of course, the one mistake that all hollywood and Egyptian movies make … the very fake ghitra setup!
You’re a Kuwaiti company, celebrating 10 years of business in Kuwait, publishing your ads in Kuwaiti newspapers …. yet you can’t get Kuwaiti models?? Forget Kuwaiti models, you can’t get ANY Kuwaiti male to tell you how fake this ghitra dishdasha look is?? I’m pretty sure your ad agency doesn’t have any Kuwaitis working in it, but your own marketing team should say something!
You probably wouldn’t notice the difference if you were not a Kuwaiti but for us it looks like this -

How hard could have been to get a Kuwaiti guy to pose (and bring his own real dishdasha and real ghetra)?
The ad is pretty lame in concept too.

I guess this confirms something I always felt about Wataniya, they don’t feel at all like a Kuwaiti company, and they can’t even fake it.
And your point about someone inside the company objecting about the way the Kuwaiti guys look in the ad is spot on!

This comment was just hilarious… I’m Egyptian myself and you just reminded me of sitting in cinemas in the summer surrounded by all khaleejis and watching a movie where there’s a khaleeji guy or where they attempt the accent… I just feel like I’m the only one in the cinema who isn’t laughing

The guys look like fakes…impostors!! not having that touch, definitely passes on the same feeling about the services too I guess…
