Gaza and us

The brutal attacks on Gaza have been going on for the past 11 days in a very
barbaric way and a depressing reaction from the world. The latest toll is 660 dead, more than 300 of them women and children, including a ridiculous attack on a school during the day yesterday!!!

I was planning to post some pictures showing what Israelis call “Hamas militants”, but the images of dead and decapitated children were too
gruesome and are already published in most of our newspapers.

What is more depressing than the aggression is the global reaction! The world is watching, and the US blames Hamas, so everyone else stays quiet! I understand countries wanting good relations with the US, but not if that means losing every shred of dignity and humanity and forgetting what it means to be a “leader” of a country.

One interesting thing about the US is that while the current secretary of state Condoleezza Rice says something so moronic and ‘programmed’ as “We must find a way to prevent arms and explosives from entering Gaza” (Are you kidding me!!?!), the president-elect Obama said “the loss of civilian life in Gaza and Israel is a source of deep concern for me.” At least
he acknowledges civilian deaths in Gaza, which is very different than anything said by Israeli and top US officials. I doubt he will be much different in his policies but at least you get the indication that he is affected by what is happening and his comment is realistic.

As for our region, as our leaders ‘condemn the aggression’ and wave their finger saying “naughty Israel” is a very hushed voice, finally the first real act of diplomatic reaction happened yesterday with a country expelling the Israeli ambassador!!

Which country finally acted and responded to this aggression in a diplomatic way?? It must be Jordan with all the Palestinian influence and refugees and ties? No. Is it Egypt, where thousands went to protest against the attacks
and even started attacking Mubarak? No. Is it Qatar maybe? No. They all still have relations with Israel and their embassies are fine.

It is in fact Venezuela. Since Chavez doesn’t care about what the US thinks, he saw the situation, thought, acted. As for the rest of the world, everyone is still the US’s ‘very’ friendly and ‘cooperative’ prison-mate.

  3. This is sad and heart breaking! When you see hundreds of innocents being savagely slaughtered daily and in the same time approved by the greatest powers of the world and explained as “fighting terrorism and self defense”

So what do we call the mass murdering of children, women, and civilians!?

  7. Interesting how Arabs figured out how ineffective they are and didn’t convene an emergency session for the Arab League cause they know it has become a joke to their people!

  8. Well Its shame that none of the arab countries have showed any protest on the streets.Israel now is doing the bigest violations and not listening to UNO and I also heard its planning to attack iran.It was on todays webnews.

  9. I say let Israel attack IRAN – and then the world would the reaction. Arabs are too weak – useless and definitely soulless – the glory of our religion has been lost and is replaced by our love and lust for money and luxury. I seriously think that now the non-Arabs will lift the flags of Islam. hence if Israel attacks Iran, South Asian Muslims, Russian Muslims, all Muslims, will show us lame Arabs , how to defend , how to be together – as i seriously think, they have lost their confidence in us , as we have let them down since 1000yrs !
    shame on us..
