The other day I had a discussion with a friend following the Logo R.I.P post on logos in Kuwait in general. We were discussing which logos we liked and which we didn’t like. We agreed on most but had some disagreements on a few. So I decided to have a Rate the Logo post, where I post the logo and the readers give it a rating from 0-10, in a couple of months we will have some idea as to which logos are most hated and loved!
There is no criterea, it is just a matter of taste, whether you like it or not.
I’ll start today with the telecoms, Zain and Wataniya logos -

I hope this leads to some interesting discussions! I would appreciate if you would say why you voted to what.
Let the voting begin!

I heard that a new law will be implemented where an MTC (A.K.A Zain) client can change & go to another company without changing his mobile number…
If thats true, i’ll be happy to quit using Zain’s crappy services & switch to another company, either Wataniya or the new Co. which might (just might) be established

The measure of a successful re-branding is not by its appeal to people, but rather the opposite, their dislike/critique of it. The brand in question is often criticized or brought on as subject of discussion (as in this post), which fulfills the main goals of any logo: To be promoted and displayed as much as possible.
Simply, if their logo appealed to the public it would not have made a free-of-charge-Zain-promotion appearance here.

A flat Zero for both and for different reasons.
I think Zain’s logo is ridiculous both aesthetically and practically.
Black background? For print?!
Pistachio and Peach (shakhbari-puke) incoherent scribbles??
And the Wataniya logo looks like something a local KFC employee -bored and with more time to kill than he can handle- might have drawn
excitedly for the dimwitted Wataniya marketing guy while waiting for his Zinger Supreme extra Mayo.

Hi Q,
The reason I dislike both these bland logos so intensely is that they lack any symbolic content of the company identity (spirit, core business, etc.).
Have you seen this brilliant tribute video to Paul Rand ? (the greatest graphic designer who ever lived).. He illustrates this point so beautifully: form without content = dull and forgettable.
As to the aesthetics, BuMaryom pointed out some of their flaws some time ago:
1. Zain: Meaningless swirl, grayscale reduction is unreadable
2. Wataniya: sleek, red high contrast is good, but the morphing of the W+waw glyphs is so boring! we’ve seen it a million times before.

i think wataniya is better than zain logo
not Artistically ! because if we are thinking of art wise zain is better looking
but logo isn’t always about art
you look at Wataniya logo and think what they do ? oh telecom they have it in the name , not creative , but they show it
now zain , what is it ? there is nothing that point me thats its telecom company , not the art , not the words , its not short for anything , and as couple of friend pointed it , it looks like a rip out of intel

I give it a 6. I think they could have done a much better job artistically. It is just too stark and not too original.

I don’t like either Logo…..
The Zain Logo is not that creative for a “NEW COMPANY” … it copies the “Circle Theme” that so MANY companies/organizations are using these days…. I am actually tired of seeing “Circles”… the Colors are also not really appealing….and I agree w/ Bader…. BLACK Background, esp for print?!
But I have to admit their campaign was huge and still is, esp in Jordan.
In re: to Wataniya…. this logo appears out-dated and clearly shows no creativity…. not much else you can say about the logo….its just BLAAAH!
