I haven’t posted in a while (waayid ingaalat hal jumla last few months) but this pissed me off and I have to post about it …
$tarbucks Kuwait increased their prices yet again! This is the second price increase that I can remember, and I wrote about the one that I do remember (someone told me its the third but Im not sure). And again like the earlier increase, I tried to find anything on the net about a price increase, but it seems that again its just Kuwait!!
I used to get a grande latte back in the day for 1.150 KD (again correct me if wrong), then this went up to 1.300 KD, and as of yesterday, it is at 1.500 KD!!! So thats a 350 fils increase, or a 30% increase in less than 5 yrs!!
If we take today’s exchange rates, and today the KD is at its strongest in nearly 20 yrs the 1.500 KD latte is almost $5.4.
$5.4 for a grande latte in Kuwait, versus $3.69 for a grande latte in New York, which is 1.030 KD!
Is is just me or does this seem like daylight robbery??
I wish I could say ill boycott starbucks, but the problem is that its the only available option most of the time! They are everywhere. I like Caribou coffee and Coffe Bean but both have limited branches, and you have to go out of your way to get to them. If im planning to sit at a coffee shop, I rarely go to starbucks, but when its to go, they’re always there.

You shouldn’t drink coffee this much at your age, it will stop your growth.

Definitely boycott. It is daylight robbery.
Seattle’s Best coffee is tastier. But the

The only time I go to starbucks is when I am out with a friend, and most friends say YEAH STARBUCKS! I never liked it. I am not good follower of prices though.

Check with Al-Shaye3… They know that most customers can’t live without their coffee. A hefty Price of luxury
September 27th, 2007 at 2:06 am
that’s very true, last thursday i went to Starbucks salwa and i saw many employees sitting together with some new faces they seemed to me like team leader or managers, im a regular visitor there so i asked the employee what is it today, he told “please tell no one, we are increasing our prices”, its something usual here in kuwait, not only starbucks, everything is getting expensive, especially food, lets think about it, if your going once a week to have hot chocolate, it wouldn’t prevent you from having it for an increase to 250 fils, but if you visit starbucs everyday then it does make a deifference,

its a weird new age monopoly thing going on.. they know they have competition but have no problem raising the price because they know that the people will always come back.. for conveniance and fashion statement (watering hole) purposes.

شوي و يوصلون سعر قوطي بيرة باسعار السوق السودة بالكويت
الحل: لا تروح ستاربكس..وفّر و لكّه بيرة
September 28th, 2007 at 3:23 am
They will keep doing it because THEY CAN
Al-Shaye3 enjoys a monopoly on starbucks in Kuwait. No one can compete because no one can open a starbucks except him! and so why shouldn’t he raise the price?
Our laws in Kuwait are set to protect such monopolies.

There should be laws against unjustifiable inflation
my god is nothing in this country off limits to the rich!

Beeeeh starbucks is on the black list long time ago… they are being very cheap and expensive and on top of that in kuwait nothing tastes good.

I prefer Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf, I find the Starbucks brands too synthetic a taste and after a white choc mocha I’m in the bathroom for hours…..Coffee Bean sell goooorgeous scones and jam too!

Yes Q this happened only a few days ago.
like 3 days ago my wife got a “kid-side” hot chocolate for 500 fils, now its 1.1 KD
And when she exclaimed about it the guy “denied” it! whats really pissing me off is the pathetic attempt at coverup. wth? reminds me of 1984, people have no memory. buy your cup like a drone and move out of the queue please lol

i think the whole idea of “modern” cafes is a robbery, what makes us pay 3 dollars for a cup of coffe that should cost no more than 50 cents??
we pay for the atmoshere i guess, still it is rip off..
I think Costa is even more expensive that Starbucks, did you notice??
September 30th, 2007 at 11:39 am
I for one am “”"wired”"” to crave my hot drink after work. I know I can make it at home for a much lower cost, but it’s just the idea of passing by Starbucks to grab my hot chocolate - all ready - that pleases me. It is a mean of mini-pampering myself.
They’re rip-offs, I know, but I don’t give a damn .. .. I keep coming back simply because I can afford to!
September 30th, 2007 at 12:34 pm
by the way i heard about the price increase in the the states 2 months ago. It is happening to all startbucks frenchises all over the world. also by 30%. The claim is that there is an international increase in coffee prices and logistics. “Thank you $75-$81 oil prices”
the best way to personaly gain from the effect is to buy strabucks stokes.
and you think you coffee is expensive now wait next year.

I used to buy their spinach quiche *drools* for 500 fils a few months back but now it costs KD1.500!!! :$

I think the only reasoning for the increase is the fact that, recently a report int he enwspaper czme out stating the salary hikes in Kuwait and other Gulf states. And if I recall the same increase in salary was there a while ago. So it might just be “oh people now have more money lets increase our prices” situation “They can still afford paying”. Thank God I stopped Starbucks atleast 3 years ago, and if I go i’ll get taza juice which also seems a bit pricey.

Well i used to buy the coffee of the day short size for 600 fils .. now its 750 fils .. i guess i am gonna boycott that place and head for other coffee houses such as caribou and second cup..
October 7th, 2007 at 3:52 am
Well….
Starbucks Kuwait is not the only place where increase is taking place.
I am visiting NYC right now…and the prices also are higher than when I was last here. Today I got a Grande Latte and Pastry (apprx. $6.50). That is high! Last time I was here, it cost me approx. $5.50/-….
I did heard weeks back that Corp. Starbucks was planning increase…so I guess its TRUE! Globally!
Get DDs (Dunkin Donuts)

Its good they increased their prices, maybe now you can order smaller sizes so you can loose weight hahaha
October 7th, 2007 at 8:16 pm
The body shop has the same price increase.
Their Vanilla Body Lotion price hike in 3 years 2.500KD to 4.500KD*.
Seems like Kuwaitis are “difee3a” and 200 fils increase has no effect.
*according to my wife

yeaah that’s true.. yesterday I have ordered the caramel wafle.. before i think it was 300-350 but now 500 files!
October 13th, 2007 at 4:24 pm
I walked into Starbucks yesterday after having been out of the country for a month and one of my regular servers said with a huge smile…”Mr. —- We raised our prices again” It was weird, but alas….true.
The only reason I go to Starbucks is because there is NOWHERE else to go to sit and be around people, except the mall….at starbucks
October 17th, 2007 at 5:28 am

October 19th, 2007 at 10:50 am
LoL just noticed the $ in $tarbucks LOL
October 19th, 2007 at 11:00 am
One more thing…I don’t mind their prices but their coffee offends my taste buds.
However, the Al Shaya Group have managed the business superbly, thanks to brilliant management. It is really something to admire and look up to. As a Kuwaiti, I’m really proud of them.
P.S. New post please!
