Gonu has left a serious aftermath on Oman.. What was built in 37 years has gone overnight.
But the Omani people and the government will work together to bring back the beauty of Muscat and Oman.
I also have pictures on my blog. They are really very sad pictures and videos.

Damn.
allah y3enhom.. the flooded streets and such seem normal, but the broken streets in the fifth and last picture look scary.
How come that many people died, didn’t they evacuate and take proper precautions? I’m guessing some people refused to evacuate..

Most people evacuated and followed all the +15 alerts the authorities issued. Not to mention that the state was in an emergency status and the authorities were taking control and they really did a great job.
Although most people who were asked to evacuate evacuated, some of them refused to evacuate, especially old men.

I am an expat here in Muscat and I would like to extent prayers to families who have lost loved ones during the cyclone. I have lived here in Muscat for 3 yrs. and it was naturally beautiful. I only hope/pray that ALL the re-building to take place will NOT allow buildings/homes to be build in KNOWN WADI’S. Lives lost & damage could & might have been prevented had proper retaining walls been built around buildings/homes that had been built in the known Wadi’s. Muscat when it rains is known to flood but that happens in every “major” (by local standards) storm.
The REAL damage was as expected… massive flash floods down the wadis….. wadis (wadi, ph: wahdee.. plural = ph: wahdees) are dry river beds that channel the occasional rain outflow to the lowlands. Being a desert, there is virtually no vegetation n the mountains behind us, so the rain just runs off almost as fast as it hits… it all collects in the runoff channels, and forms incredible flash floods at every chance. In some low-lying areas, the streets became swift torrents as runoff up to a meter or more deep swept down the streets and between the buildings. Cars got stacked up in incredible configurations like tipped over dominoes… I’ll send a few pictures later.
Right now June 13 2007 alot of roads have washed out, making getting around a bit harder than usual… it makes it more unsafe to drive due to people being impatient & driving down the yellow lane while there is traffic in the only 2 lanes avaliable… in many areas only one lane. Talk about a death warrant… I just wish people would use common sence for others lives.
