Yesterday I finally got myself a Wataniya line! After weeks of complaining, I finally did something about the shit service and ditched MTC after more than 10 years of being a loyal customer!!
VS.
It all started back in March 23rd, exactly two months ago, when the network was down for a few hours. They said they fixed it and they gave everyone that Friday free. BUT…since then, the problems with the network have been nonstop!! On a daily basis, dropped phone calls and being disconnected has been a regular and very very annoying thing, not to mention the many many times I call someone and it says the mobile is switched off, and the same when others call me even though it should be fine with full service. Mainly what really pissed me off was the number of dropped calls every day, I would say that on average, 1 in every 4 calls is dropped and I have to call that person again! Many people I know using MTC have been complaining alot recently.
So yesterday I got my new number at 4 PM, and since then, I have a total of ZERO dropped calls or network problems! BIG DIFFERENCE!! Its sad that Im happy that the company is not crap! Im not happy because its amazing and exceeding expectations….Im just happy it works!!
I have been told that MTC have had a problem and that they are working on fixing it. TWO MONTHS?!?!?? They didn’t even try to explain to the public why their service has been crap recently! What I hate more than the bad service is the lack of effort in communicating with their clients! To me, it seems that they just don’t care, and that their clients should be happy with below average.
I know one day is not enough to judge, but this has been the longest time without having problems with my network, and I am using the same phone I used the MTC chip in, so the problem is not the phone. I will probably give a better assessment by end of June when I get the bill for a full month to judge the pricing as well as everything else.
If you have more than one line, which one do you use as your main personal line.

OK, so how do people who know you get in touch with you now since they don’t know your new number? mass-SMS?
In the US, a court ruled to require telcos to allow customers to keep their numbers if they switch (which I did recently, very cool).

you sure it wasn’t just a problem with your phone? sometimes the phones software acts up for no reason and it can cause strange things to happen like giving people the impression your phone is closed when its actually open.

Perseus and Jandeef, unfortunately yes I have to send mass sms from my MTC phone telling ppl about my new number! and btw even in Saudi you can switch companies while keeping your number, in Kuwait our two companies are not really competing against each other, which is a reason why all other GCC countries have services alot more advanced than us!
DR, I did call, it took a bit longer than MTC for them to pick up, but they were friendly, and to be fair the MTC customer service has been really good.
nibaq, shall I remind you of a phone call we had 2 weeks ago?? it got dropped twice and if you dont remember ur words when u called for a third time they were **** MTC.
Mark, yep im sure, many people have been going through the same problems and when I called MTC to ask they said that they did in fact have a problem. Also, Im using the same phone now and its been smooth sailing for the first day.
Purg, just sent it…and LOL about Qatar!!
EXzombie, I hear that when traveling, MTC kicks Wataniya’s ass, is that true in any way??

Q,
There should be legal action againts mtc’s drop calls. It if it take 4 calls to finished a one minute diriction call then they are making four times minutes. So instead of paying 40 fils you end up paying 160 fils. I think i ask you the last time about it but there should be a lobby againts mtc more than 70% are mtc user and a big percantege are under legal obligation to pay there phone bill that should be at least half if mtc had a better network.

After MTC started sending me this dumb MISSYOU service SMS - at least one dozen in 1 hour - a service we all got BEFORE for FREE - that really was the nail in the coffin for me.
I mean charging me for a normal service (missed calls while offline - this is routine in all carriers)and giving it a “cute” name (MISSYOU) was the nail in the coffin for me.
They need to extort an extra 500 fils monthly from each customer in Kuwait to make up for their big deals in Africa and Saudi - well they have one less 500 fils from now.
In the process of switching to WATANIYA - at least they have Qatari ownership now and they will institute all the stuff other Gulfies have that we don’t (3.5G, push to talk etc)

Congrats! Change is sometimes GOOD!
Many times companies take their customers for granted and ignore that fact that there is COMPETITION. Its important that customers take a stand for themselves and show these companies WHO THE REAL BOSS is….
Congrats and Good luck w/ new line.

amer: 3.5G is offered by both Kuwaiti carriers, and is simply a fancy name for HSDPA (utilized by MTC’s E-Go, Wataniya’s WNet, when either is running on the HSDPA network).
Push To Talk is not yet very profitable to the extent of bothering to install supporting technologies (carrier side), as many handsets don’t include a PTT client. Some Nokias have it, not sure about SE phones (mine, a W850i doesn’t, neither does the W880i or K800i/K810i, or the P880i).
However, I distinctly remember a reliable Wataniya source telling me that Wataniya launched PTT (internally, at that time) but is pricing it per duration (150 fils per minute) which is crap. Not sure what the arrangement is now. MTC also launched it internally, but I hope one of them at least charges a fixed amount to use it, which is how it’s supposed to be done in my humble opinion.

Correction: I meant the SE P900i, not P880i.

I yet have to understand if they raised the tariff for international SMS because its “international standard” why the hell dont they drop charging us for receiving calls from landline because internatioanally this is the standard as well!! Q, why not revert to smoke signaling?

Wataniya is just as bad when it comes to selling customer information. And spamming your line with unwanted messages.
Just wait and see, and their customer service is not exactly superb either.

watayniya sucks. it is just that simple. it is by far the worst isp on the planet. repeated disconnects, random system failures, horrible speeds, etc, etc, etc. i am still unsure how anybody remains loyal to a company that appears to be so worthless.
