My last post was about another example of some sloppiness found in most Kuwaiti government organizations.
BUT …. thumbs up to whoever is in charge of the PAAF website, for actually fixing the problem in less than a day!

I would like to think that this blog had something to do with them changing it, since it was changed right after it was highlighted in this blog thanks to an email from Judy Abbott (and thanks to Loyal Reader for pointing out the change).
You can see the old mistakes in the earlier post, but look at the new and improved header of the same website 24 hours later -

and just in case its too small to read ….

SUCCESS!! Im actually very happy and proud that it was changed this quickly and not just ignored
(and I like the addition of the sheep to replace the bird that could be sick with the flu)
Another example of how the internet has given regular people like us more power with technology! First, the 5 districts, now pubic to public!! Hooray!

Yet again, another tarzanism strikes!! This time, thanks to Judy Abbott for emailing me this link with the following main title and this image -

I actually missed the spelling mistake the first time around …. but when I did, I couldn’t stop laughing!!

LOL!! Pubic Authority of Agriculture & Fish Resources!! How disgusting is that??
Just in case you don’t know what the big deal is if they forgot one letter, please feel free to learn what effect this one letter makes -

Yesterday I finally got myself a Wataniya line! After weeks of complaining, I finally did something about the shit service and ditched MTC after more than 10 years of being a loyal customer!!
VS.
It all started back in March 23rd, exactly two months ago, when the network was down for a few hours. They said they fixed it and they gave everyone that Friday free. BUT…since then, the problems with the network have been nonstop!! On a daily basis, dropped phone calls and being disconnected has been a regular and very very annoying thing, not to mention the many many times I call someone and it says the mobile is switched off, and the same when others call me even though it should be fine with full service. Mainly what really pissed me off was the number of dropped calls every day, I would say that on average, 1 in every 4 calls is dropped and I have to call that person again! Many people I know using MTC have been complaining alot recently.
So yesterday I got my new number at 4 PM, and since then, I have a total of ZERO dropped calls or network problems! BIG DIFFERENCE!! Its sad that Im happy that the company is not crap! Im not happy because its amazing and exceeding expectations….Im just happy it works!!
I have been told that MTC have had a problem and that they are working on fixing it. TWO MONTHS?!?!?? They didn’t even try to explain to the public why their service has been crap recently! What I hate more than the bad service is the lack of effort in communicating with their clients! To me, it seems that they just don’t care, and that their clients should be happy with below average.
I know one day is not enough to judge, but this has been the longest time without having problems with my network, and I am using the same phone I used the MTC chip in, so the problem is not the phone. I will probably give a better assessment by end of June when I get the bill for a full month to judge the pricing as well as everything else.
If you have more than one line, which one do you use as your main personal line.

A friend of mine sent me this by email earlier today, it was in yesterday’s AlQabas page 36 -

This is perfect because it comes right after my post about Ghiras’s translation problems, and the show is apparently on the new Ghiras TV!! I really hope they keep it that way and don’t fix it!

The Pakistani minister of tourism resigned yesterday.
She was in France and took a parachute jump to raise money for child victims of the earthquake that struck Pakistan in October 2005. After the jump, she was congratulated by her instructor and that included a hug.

What happened after those pictures??
- Clerics at a mosque in Islamabad issued a fatwa against her demanding she gets dismissed from the cabinet.
- She was sacked as head of the women’s wing of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League.
- Government and Prime Minister don’t stand up for her against the Islamists.
- She resigns.
I have a question, while she was on a charity jump for Pakistani victims, how many of those people making a big deal of the picture have done anything to help in charities to needy people?
Pakistan is going down a very dangerous path slowly. The Islamists are forcing themselves while the government is not dealing with the situation well at all! They are losing their hold on the system all together.
Other examples of stuff that has happened there include -
- A Punjab provincial minister was shot dead in the eastern city of Gujranwala because she was not wearing a veil.
- Self appointed Mullas sending their own troops to patrol the streets to check that everything is Islamic enough to their liking!
- Students at the ‘Red Mosque’ have been raiding homes they claim to be brothels.
- Students frm the same mosque have been kidnapping policemen.
Unfortunately, it seems like things are heading to one direction, where Taliban went and destroyed Afghanistan.
In a way, this whole minister incident reminded me of the Nouria Al-Sabeeh swearing in a few weeks ago, when Islamist members of parliament tried to disrupt her by interrupting and threatening before the session.

I saw this today in the newspaper.

(click on picture for bigger view)
Mohammed Bin Rashid announced yesterday at the World Economic Forum a $10 Billion program to encourage and promote human development through education and supporting young leaders and so on in the region!!
How amazing is that?!
The website mbrfoundation.ae doesn’t really say much on how they plan to distribute the money and what the long term plans are, but the announcement itself is a huge step for the region!!
First of all, $10,000,000,000 is ALOT of money!!
Second of all, the only other thing that comes to mind is Salem Al-Ali’s so called ‘donation’ of 100KD mil. Check out his website in comparison….starting with the very generous and to the point name www.salemgive.com! Salem Give!! LOL! Then lets compare the reasons behind each, and Im not even going to mention comparing the quality of the websites! Then check out how he has his picture at the top of the website, while most people don’t even know what Mohammed Bin Rashid looks like even though we hear of him non-stop!

We have many many malls here in Kuwait.
The major ones are probably -
- The Avenues
- Souq Sharq
- Marina Mall
- AlFanar
- AlMuhallab
- AlKout
How many of them have proper book stores and libraries??
In all six malls, with their hundreds of stores, I can recall ZERO bookstores!!
Virgin is the closest thing we have, but as a bookstore it is very limited, and is not techically a book store. The one in AlMuthana is the only one as far as I remember.
I don’t buy the crap that people don’t read in Kuwait! Just look at Jareer, which is not the best store and in the worst locations, yet it seems to be busy mostly!
When traveling, there seems to be some sort of book store or library at every corner, even if you go to a place like Dubai, not too far, you will find a Borders! We need a Borders or Barnes&Noble type of store here! I remember checking out Starbooks or whatever its name is when it first opened, and the selection was very very limited and the location really wasn’t great at all.
Is the lack of any book stores based on the myth that we don’t read as a nation (I disagree, and almost everyone I know reads on a continuous basis) and therefore a doomed business, or is it an business opportunity that has yet to be explored the right way??
