Is it just me or does this news item make you sad?
Is the Avenues mall all we have to show off nowadays??
It’s nice and new, but its a mall …. just a shopping center with lots of starbucks cafes and clothing stores!! Why would government officials invite a visiting delegation, and our Prime Minister taking Bahrain’s Prime Minister to see how great our country is advancing by building another mall!!
If we built a state of the art hospital, I would understand and encourage taking them to visit it…..if it was a state of the art university, I would be proud too and would want others to see it!
….. a mall.

knowing kuwait way of thinking
the diplomat wanted to see it ( hey its new thing , can’t blame him )
but he can’t go alone ? can he ?
so you can’t send a low level offical with him
you need someone as high as him
and when you send someone as high as him
you send 20-30 officals with him
and when 30-40 officals are in a mall
one of them is the prime minister
it become news

what else to show them? anything possible to show them..
don’t forget that it is becoming hot these days.. an airconditioned placed is a must i guess…
add to that.. i feel pity for the people who need those people in this delegation and all of their papers and mo3amalat to be approved and signed! and they get this line from el wizarat: “the manager is in a meeting(achino) outside of the premis!”

That’s true, and they used to show off the Scientific Center to the president of Iraq when he visited Kuwait a while ago. We have new hospitals and tremendous projects in Kuwait, but they didn’t show any of them to any officials when they visited Kuwait, simply because the ones who decide what to show off are simple minded, and there are always business and financial reasons that effect what they decide to show to the ones who visit Kuwait, this for example is a propaganda for The Avenues.

Did he at least buy something?
Did he remark on how many of the shops there are also available in Bahrain and the rest of the GCC?
Did he trip over a Starbucks frappucino?

it’s a reflection of our Consumerism culture, just buy, spend and spend… no productivity what so ever..no vision of a futrue, and when we aspire we just aspire for malls and buildings (like Dubai) isn’t that why 90% of Kuwaitis like Dubai? Have any of us spoke of the State of the Art transportation system (metro, etc) Dubai is building? ofcourse no, it’s beneath our consuming brain to share transportations.
Q.. You are right, it’s very very sad? I think your post compliment your dad’s column today.. you are on fire these days

it is a shame.
the amir of bahrain went to their new financial harbour, the amir of qatar celebrated their new energy city,… and the amir of kuwait went shopping at the avenues…….
and it aint even that special, or complete, or that big, even when it is finished.
not only is it a sad reflection on the consumerism culture here, its a sad reflection on the ruler,…. but then maybe he knows that a new mall is all that he needs to shut people up for a while. perhaps he knows his own countrymen better than we think

a mall! a mall!
But exactly what did u expect? The whole country went crazy for opening a new shopping center! It’s not the full mall opened! This mall will provide a great work out routine for the many Kuwaitis who practice the sport of marching marina mall ray7een raddeeen.
We tried to go IKEA and failed for few times, since its too crowded to breath in that area now! We decided to wait for few months until people buy all the casual wear they need and drink all the sugar and caffeine they can.
4 starbux? Four?
