Who came up with this name for a campaign??

Didn’t they think of the name in Arabic before launching??
Wataniya Telecom never cease to surprise me in how bad their marketing efforts are! Wataniya is probably the one company in Kuwait that has the potential to become a regional leader if only they only worked on their brand! Very poor in their marketing and continue to be so judging from this campaign!
I really wish they could pause for a minute and look at what MTC is doing (except for their latest e-go ads which are very very poor)!
From what I remember of their ads, their red carpet ad was nice, their ad a couple of years before that of the farawla guy in the supermarket was decent, and their Xpress cards ad with the two kids was OK, but none of them had ANYTHING to do with the other!! Add to that their stupid “look at the logo” campaign on the buses with the big boobs, and every other ad they have had in the past few years……NONE OF THEM HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE OTHER!!
If each ad was from a different company, they would all be decent ads, but the fact that all these ads come from the same company just shows how much of a mess they are and how unclear they are in their message to be delivered representing their brand!
Anyway, back to the point, why the hell would their product be called Diggly Tone in English and “دقلي تون” in Arabic?! Neither of the names makes any sense, and in Arabic it just sounds plain silly!

Diggly?! Hmmmm….. Its not even worth understanding…. I wonder if they meant to say “diggity” (which is still very stupid cause I don’t know what it means, but has been used in Hip-Hop songs in US). Hmmm…..

Perseus the first thing I thought of was the Diggler name, I even looked at the ad again to see if there was some kind of joke or if I would see a “Diggler” there
Sorry to rain on you guys but I don’t get what’s so bad about the name (except for people who watched Boogie Nights of course). The only thing I don’t understand is the connection between the tones and the laughing. Is it like a funny sounding ringtone or what? Does the name come from the Arabic word meaning “call me” or does it go for the English “giggle” or what?
Could anyone clarify what the fuss is about?

Hi Mogendi, the term does mean “call me” in arabic, but it’s in very bad form:
First of all it’s lousy kuwaiti, no self-respecting Kuwaiti says that..
تعبير “دق لي” في غاية الركاكة و القبح.. “دق علي” هو الصواب
If my dad heard me say “digg li” he’d have a fit. He’s the kuwaiti grammar police
Second, which is what I think Q was referring to, is that it’s pure lazy marketing: the transliteration into English of this dumb expression makes it even dumber.

Mogendi, Persues explained it perfectly on why I hate the name!
Also, add to that the fact that you didnt get it and what it does (neither do i), which only proves how bad this campaign is!

hey guys why are you soooo against wataniya. i think since the company took that much of your time and attention that means its doing really well. i read the newspapers and i think they meant diggly as in kuwaiti slang ‘call me ‘ they said it in their press release. and if you are saying that their brand is weak that was not what the forbes study said about their brand a month ago.
