Coming out party

Last night, I was privileged to be invited with a distinguished group of bloggers to discuss the subject of blogs in general and how they affect us here in Kuwait. The show is called Diwaniyat Alisboo3 (ديوانية الأسبوع) and it is presented by Dr. Shafiq AlGhabra and airs on KTV. Last night’s episode was recorded to air at a later date, I think a month or two from now.

I knew everyone there personally except Mahmood, who flew in to Kuwait from Bahrain specifically for this show. The rest of the participants were Zaydoun, Shurouq, nibaq, kilama6goog, and a blogger who would rather remain anonymous.

The discussion in my opinion was excellent. It went very smoothly without jumping randomly between the many different subjects that could’ve been discussed, which is probably due to Dr. Shafiq’s ability to handle such a discussion. I only wish we had more time to continue the discussions, which were very enjoyable.

For more details about the episode, you can find a great summary (with some pics) at Mahmood’s blog.

One of the topics briefly discussed was anonymity. We had 7 participants in the discussion, 2 of whom have not been anonymous and have always used their real names, Shurouq Mudhaffar and Mahmood Al-Yousif. The other five were probably not as anonymous as we’d like to believe but we still never openly used our full names, until last night, where we all “came out”. It would be interesting to see how this would change our styles in writing and criticizing anything we want so freely! This applies to Zaydoun, kilama6goog, nibaq, and myself.

  5. I think now I understand what K means, I think :P

  6. Very brave, and yes, it will be interesting. How many people in your life know you blog?

  7. if he came out on TV and gave his real name why keep his blog secret ?

and didn’t u claim your name was Bader last meeting you attended ( back in 1984 )

  8. Last year I tried to rally my SS co-bloggers and the major kuwaiti bloggers to ALL come out at the same time. Like in one day we’d all post our names and pictures.

That was in december 2005. It didn’t happen, and i’m glad it didn’t coze I don’t think we would’ve covered Azmat el7ukum as we did.

I guess now it happened but in a different way. It was inevitable and just about time. Interesting to see how it affects everybody.

  9. When do they repeat this episode?

  10. Can u plz tell us when its aired.
    I ALWAYS miss these things.

  11. Wanted to comment on the new layout… did you pay millions to have that orange line added at the end of every entry? ;)

  12. He paid the same amount it cost NBK to add a red line.

  13. I thought the discussion was slow and somewhat disconnected.

Ba3dain everyone knows I’m a six-foot blonde.. That can’t be me in those pics!

  14. Intlxpatr, personally, almost all my friends and family know I blog, so in that sense, it shouldn’t make much difference.

forza! Its not secret anymore, its just im used to the nickname Q! O btw can u email me ur phone number?

Jandeef, at SS ur situation is a bit difference. Even now going public could cause some problems to u guys personally, so its a good thing they didnt take ur advice ;P

Jackie and DR, the episode hasn’t been aired yet, I think it should be aired in a couple of months since they told us to wear summer dishdashas.

baboonij and K, it took the same amount of time, meeting with all the agencies and so on, but I think I got a better deal! Anything is a better deal than what NBK did ;P

Shurouq, really? I thought it went very smoothly, especially compared to the preparation session on Saturday! I liked the way things flowed, and like my bro was telling me afterwards, there was no repetition in what people were saying, everyone added something new. And u know what they say about being on camera, it adds a few pounds of weight, in ur case it took away a few inches (or feet) :P

  15. Shurouq could you please clean that mirror?

I most definitely so you as the epitome of Gulf beauty: intelligent, dark haired, aloe eyed, delectable high cheek-bones, tall, slim, quick witted and a charming sardonic smile to top it all.

Have a missed anything? I’m sure pictures don’t do you justice!

Love you all, and I am honoured to have spend a few hours with you.

  16. I only wish we had more time to continue the discussions,

والله عاد انت اللي طنشتنا و رحت تشوف مباراة مليقة بين ريال مدريد و ميونخ, احنا رحنا بومودورو و اكتشفت هناك ان اسلوبي ابوي

KM, it was Arsenal :P Otherwise I wouldve come! O bainy o bainik I wish I didnt go back to watch the game!

  18. well, waiting to see it :)

  19. you all make us proud….
and we need more exposure, wither it’s on the tele, radio, podcast, or newspapers and mags, people should know there is a vent to test the tolerance of our democracy…….!!!

I’m spreading the love these couple of days so don’t worry, it’s just a phase……!!!
