I wrote that article more than a year and a half ago, I was in Qatar for work, and I remember watching the Kuwait - Korea game alone in my hotel room. It was a 4-0 loss, I was devastated and I remember I had so much anger in me. I went straight to an internet cafe across the road and I wrote this down as quickly as possible without really thinking beforehand, I was just very angry.
Since then, we have -
- Gone out of the World Cup qualifications
- Failed to qualify to the Asian Cup
- Yet again got last place in the Gulf Cup equaling Yemen’s total points.
Our display was disgraceful AGAIN. The only difference this time was instead of feeling bad, I was actually very happy and was actually jumping from joy when UAE scored in the last minute to win 3-2.
During our first game against Yemen, I was invited at a diwaniya and was watching the game with about 20 people. Only 2 people were supporting Kuwait, the rest (including me) were making fun of them and we all cheered when the referee gave Msa3ad Nida a red card.
Today’s game against the UAE was at a smaller setting wth 4 other guys, where only 1 guy was supporting Kuwait and the rest of us were mocking him.
I dont blame anyone who did that too, because when you have 21 people out of 24 people supporting the other team, there has to be a reason for that. The reason noone is supporting the team is not because of the players or the coach, I think the players are as good if not better than the UAE or Yemen (not Oman), and we could beat them. And the coach is not at fault either because although he was average, that is our capacity at most at the moment.
Everyone cheering against the team is in fact against the system. We are all venting our anger about how things are run through our anger at the team.
The people in charge of sports - Ahmad Al-Fahad, Talal Al-Fahad, Ahmad Al-Yousif, and so on, are all selfish people who use sports as a stepping stone and dont give a shit about the advancement of the country’s sports. They singlehandedly RUINED sports in Kuwait. What Kuwait built over 30 or 40 years was all ripped up and destroyed by these thugs. Everyone who is happy to see the team fail is hoping that someday these people will realize that there is noone else to blame.
The problem is that they seem to not care, or ignore the fact that they are HATED by everyone who loves Kuwait and sports. So many attempts (mostly shy ones) have happened to create an issue out of this and asking them to resign.
What we got was Ahmad Al-Yousef resigning and then coming back because as he said, the people want him back! WTF?? NOBODY WANTS ANY OF YOU GUYS RUINING KUWAIT’S NAME ANYMORE!!
I think Ahmad Al-Fahad or his brother Talal Al-Fahad will take full advantage of this situation. They will try to force Ahmad AlYousef out to look like heroes, and then ……….. they will put one of their younger brothers in his place, and the circle of corruption and pissing on sports continues. Their father, sheikh Fahad Al-Ahmad, was a man who dedicated his life to sports and was able to take Kuwait places. None of these guys is even half dedicated.
Look at other sports in Kuwait, the only really successful sport is Handball (which by the way we are in the World Cup and playing at the moment), and the reason for our success is that the people in charge of the handball federation are actual lovers of the game who have played before or have been involved since a younger age. We have won every regional competition, and the Asian Cup, and reached the World Cup. Who is the head of the Kuwait Handball Association?? I don’t know. What I do know is that he is not a Saba7i, otherwise his name would be in the front page every day. I am glad I don’t know the guy’s name, it shows that whoever is handling the game doesn’t care about the flash and media, they are concentrating on their job.
OK all I was supposed to do was repost the old article but I guess I ranted alot too. Sorry about that, and good night.

“I think Ahmad Al-Fahad or his brother Talal Al-Fahad…to look like heroes”
Just like when there’s a win papers thank and congradulate these people as if they were the ones who played or worked for this
I hope that 2007 will mark the downfall of these people & all their buddies. Im sick of seeing ashkal-hom make kuwait take steps back because of their selfish needs
Great post- well said

They are following the foot steps of their father. He was not the one who took Kuwait places. It was people like Jasim Yaquob, El-Banai and many others who were behind the achievements that Kuwait once reached. Fahad Al-Ahmad was a corrupt person. He was running the Kuwaiti Olympic Committee as if it was his inherited estate. I still remember his behavior during the eighties especially when he made an ass of him self during the World Cup in Barcelona when we played against France. He made us all look like idiots. Perhaps the best thing ever he did was to become a martyr! When I look at his son Ahmad today, I see a copy of his father: corruption, arrogance, recklessness, greed, etc. No wonder this country is going to the dogs.

dishevelled, thx
The Dagger, it is true that we had the players who made the difference, but no matter how much we might disagree with Ahmad AlFahad, we cant deny the fact that he dedicated his life and money for the cause. His sons on the other hand dedicate their life for money. And another thing, he was a martyr for all we know so lets respect that memory at least and not say negative things about him plz.

I didn’t question his martyrdom. I said it was the best thing he ever did. One of the problems that we the Kuwaitis, or Arabs in general, have is that if someone dies (or is martyred), we tend to forget all of his deeds, and even the crimes he committed during his life. As a result, corruption and abuse of power continues. I don’t know how old you are, but do you remember the corruption scandals and the financial mismanagement (actually the theft) in the mid eighties that engulfed the Football Federation? Do you remember the vicious campaign to discredit Al-Qdissiya club board? Who was behind all this?! Again, I am not denying his martyrdom. But it seems to me that his sons, who are so corrupted, are using this martyrdom business to justify fucking us all! My younger cousin was also martyred! Does that mean I can go and steal and fuck this place up as I fancy?!. One last word, he didn’t spend his money. He was paid a salary to do a job, and he did well at the very beginning. He didn’t dedicate his life for the cause. He wanted But eventually arrogance and the love of power turned him into a corrupt person and I KNOW THIS VERY WELL! May God bless our martyrs, and protect us from the sins of the sons of some of our martyrs.

You took the words right out of my mouth! I can’t believe whats happening to Kuwaiti soccer. And this is a game that supposedly everyone loves in kuwait - we should at least be able to do well playing against other khaleeji countries. but our performances are embarassing. i just wanted to say that there will be a protest against the Kuwait Football Association. Here is the information:
Date: Saturday, January 27, 2007
Time: 3:30pm - 10:00pm
Location: IN FRONT OF MAJLIS IL OMA (PARLIMENT)
Street: GULF ROAD
City: KUWAIT CITY, Kuwait
I hope we see a change soon before its too late.
January 25th, 2007 at 6:06 am
6 hours and a half to protest!?
And 3:30-10:00 in front of majlis iloma.. why majlis iloma? And I dont think anyone’s going to be there.
As much as I like and believe in taking actions for change, protesting in front of the parliment is getting a bit old. Mo 3ala kilshay 3ad.

I remember during the year 2000, the coach of the Kuwaiti team was sacked as the players complained about him.
The nature of the complaint - “He makes us work too much. We have a 2 hour training session in the morning and another 4 hour session in the evening.”
Just for the record, a friend of mine is part of the Japanese under 17 - and they daily train for atleast 8 hours.
The problem for Kuwait sports are the ministers, and to some extent the attitude of the players as well.

The life hood of the officials depend on them heading those sports. Their living a 5 star life , why would they care what Kuwait goes through and what humiliation the Kuwaitis have to face in defeat when we loose in competitions. They don’t care why would they ? they have lost their conscience and patriotism. All they care about is how to pocket the money for themselves. This is how it is in Kuwait at large.
But when you talk about ministries at least it is some how internal, when it comes to sport its an international representation for the whole world to watch. For the Asian games the ministry of youth and sports published an add in the paper for the public 1 week before, inviting them to apply to participate in different disciplines like show jumping ( horse jumping )and what you have . those disciplines take years and money and sweat to master. That will show you the people heading the federation in Kuwait know nothing about sports period.

Q I will have to agree with “The Dagger.”
The beginning of the downfall started in the 80’s with Fahad Alahmad. He introduced corruption to sports and was behind countless managerial and ‘financial’ scandals that were unheard of before his time. We tend to look away from that because he’s dead and we think that by forging history and re-writing it in his favour we’re being nice.
His sons are only continuing in step with his vision.
Q, where did you come up with “he dedicated his life and money for the cause”??

regarding our boys.
I would like to tell the player that I am proud of them. I know they didn’t win anything but I understand how dose it feel when you volunteer your time for a sport and go reperensent your country, fail, and then have every single person at your case.

Perhaps they should buy the refs like they are doing in handball?
(Since they can’t do it with hardwork and smarts?)
