Everybody loves a good hot dog! The best thing about hot dogs is that you can eat one at any time, between meals as a snack, between snacks as a mini snack….and as a meal too! They are great because they are very uncomplicated, cook them any way you want (takes maximum of 3 mins), then put them in a bun, and go crazy….right??
Apparently, these guys want to rediscover the wheel ….

So far so good, right?? The picture of a hotdog on their package is put on a small booklet that includes more pictures…
After this main cover page, things start to go wrong…..very wrong…
They start giving “alternative” suggestions for using the hot dog! First suggestion -

Hot dogs with your cole slaw….hmmm, if this doesnt kill your appetite, wait till you read their punchline, which is roughly translated to “Cole slaw lovers will enjoy adding some protien to the salad”! Hmmm…..no?! Its cole slaw, Im not a big fan, but even if I was, I cant imagine meat with my cole slaw! And who came with the great idea of referring to your hot dogs as “protien”??
Let’s continue -

Hot dog soup! Mmmmm..mmmmmm ….. If the sound of that wasn’t bad enough, they sure killed it with the picture, although the concept is enough to discourage you! The caption says “Enjoy (for a female) a soup rich with protien, vitamins, and fiber, a delicious and healthy soup”! Again, it sounds like a chemistry lesson, and I felt weird reading this after realizing this product or brochure is directed purely for women
Suggestion 3 -

Aaah yes, the ever famous hot dog biryani, an all time Indian cuisine classic! eww….I wont even have to comment on this one!
Last, but by no means least -

Apparently this is “Maccaroni with vegetables and hot dog”, I do see maccaroni in the picture, and I see vegetables, and I see hot dog, but this doesnt really look like a specific dish, it just looks like a mix of yesterday’s leftovers!
After checking out these great suggestions, do you feel more likely or less likely to buy this product??
Peronally, one simple picture of this product at its greatest would do a much better job in making me want to buy some hot dogs -
Ahh yes, how great is simplicity? Im a big believer in the saying “If it aint broken….don’t fix it”! And this is an example of how you can make something classic and delicious like a hot dog seem less than appetizing!
Cars in a way are a reflection of their owners, in terms of style or beliefs, ya3ny guys who like to look “tough” go for a huge thing like hummers or huge 4×4s, enviromental friendly people drive small fuel effecient cars, businessmen get the fancy luxury cars, bachelors go for sporty, family men or women go for something big and safe…and so on…
Now, what if ancient people had the chance to drive cars that are available today??
What do you think the following famous people would be driving?
- Cleopatra
- Leonardo DaVinci
- Alexander
- المتنبي
- Abraham Lincoln
- Aristotle
- عنترة بن شداد
- Shakespeare
- Buddha
These names just popped up in my mind, no specific order or reason….
I have a feeling many people will have similar choices for cars!
I recieved this email from Dr. Naji AlZaid regarding the flamingo picture post -
————————————————————————-
Dear Q,
” Perhaps Kuwaits most popular migrant visitors are the flamingoes. These
elegant creatures are familiar visitors to kuwait in the spring and autumn
and infact used to breed here. Breeding pairs were recorded in Kuwait in
1922, but have not been recorded since. They are bird of the tropical and
subtropical regions and the commonest, the Greater falmingo, has established
a huge breeding colony at lake Reziah in Iran. Most of the members of this
colony go to India or Pakistan for the winter, but between five and twelve
thousand of them winter on Al Fao peninsula at shatt Al Arab. The ones in
kuwait are most probably from there, although this is not certain.
Falmingoes also breed in the Meditereranean, but they are extremely fussy
about conditions they require. They need lots of biological activity in the
water to provide plenty of food. They can be found on mudflats, lagoons and
shallow lakes, but even at favoured breeding sites their breeding activity
often irregular and elsewhere infrequent. Non-breeding flamingoes may well
be present all year round in winter area, and it is perfectly possible that
some do occasionally breed in kuwait”

Thanks Dr. Naji, as always, a wonderful source of information!
The only information I found when looking up the words flamingo and kuwait was -
the bird flu case in Kuwait last year where a flamingo was infected supposedly!
Earlier today I had a meeting at the Free Trade Zone, and on my way back I saw the flamingos that are always there. It always intrigued me how we have this bird here in our coast but its never been considered a local bird! I dont even remember right now what its called in Kuwait…
Anyway, this is a closeup of the flamingos having fun under the Kuwaiti sun…
