Everyone driving on Gulf Road must’ve passed by this building many times by now…

Although this first picture is just a model (I couldnt find any better pics online), it still is a very beautiful building in my opinion!
When they first started work on the Center for Research & Treatment of Diabetes, everyone I know was saying that it should be a great project for a country with one of the highest rates of diabetes! When the building looked to be finished more than a year ago, it looked great!
I just have a question, is it open yet?? Or has it just been standing there for more than a year unused?? Anybody know anything about it?
This project cost around 14 million KD, and was supposed to be done in 2004! What happened since?! And how come there is little or no coverage about it in any of the media??
Ok, so it wasnt just a question, its a bunch of questions, but I still would like to know answers! Anyone here work close to Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS) and can provide us with answers?

Good questions.
I want to know myself.
Someone told me that it was open, bes Im 100% sure that the person was mistaken.
Ma sima3na shay, a place like that will take a huge load off the other hospitals handling diabetics, and I havent seen that at all.

It looks amazing. I’ve spoken with someone in KFAS recently and they’ve been having a lot of trouble with the Ministry of Health who want a stake in this privately owned/built facility, it delaying everything as I understand….
*sigh*

صرف الدواء بدون اى نظام غذائى
أدويه غير متوفره
النفسيه الزفت لمعظمالاطباء و دم تقبلهم النقاش

to me this whole center is a joke, my husband and I laugh every time we pass by this huge building. diabetes is not a very complicated disease and there is not much you can do about it in a big center. A small office ina mustawsef would do the job just as good.
a while ago in a seminar someone approached us and asked me to put together a plan for him to help his patients, i refused! (and its not me to refuse helping people!) but after all the classes we have taught and organized we found out that there is nothing you can do to help someone who refuses to exercise and give up their knafa and coffee! I have came across many many people who literally asks us for a magic pill because they are too lazy to change their life.
Diabetes is such a simple disease, in fact its one of the easiest things to control and handle, its even easier to prevent it!
The one and only reason for diabetes is the long term over consumption of simple carbohydrates (sugary foods) and drinking along with the overconsumption of fatty foods. The over consumption of simple carbohydrates as opposed to complex carbohydrates (whole grains) leads to chaotic blood sugar levels and weakens the pancreas ability to produce insulin. Without insulin the body can not handle all the extra glucose properly. fa instead of strengthening the pancreas so more insulin can be produced and instead of quitting the consumption of “bad” food, they inject you or make you take pills of insulin, which sends msgs to the pancreas telling it that you don’t need to do your job anymore we can have artificial insulin, so the pancreas dies and you live dependant on insulin pills or shots all ur life because once the pancreas shrivels up and dies you cant go back.
A student of mine was taking insulin for 7 years and thought she would never stopped, but when she took the time to educate her self and changed her life style and cooking style now she is enjoying her life insulin free. She used to be so embarrassed in class every time we offer food because she has to go inside to inject herself she was met7ajba so she couldn’t do that infront of my husband so she would just refuse to eat, after 2 years of taking that class she sent us the most thoughtful gift and letter a while ago telling us that she has been insulin free for the past year and a half and her doctor is amazed! Now she is enjoying a healthy pregnancy allah eytammem 3laiha enshala!
I have to add that its NOT HEREDITARY! Its only hereditarybecause you and your family eat the same food! Many people say that ooh I cant do anything about it because my mom has it and my father has it so its inherited! You eat the same food and sit on the same coach ! you live the same life so obviously you will have the same illnesses.
Im sorry

I actually have one more question to add I hope you don’t mind.. lets say they finally resolve all the problems and they finally open the place for the “masses”.. my biggest concern, Since this building has a great location and is actually quite nice, is that do they have enough parking spaces?!.. For the amount of diabetics in the country and the amount that might actually want to go to this place.. will the parking spaces be enough or will the people end up parking on the curb, on gulf road, and blocking traffic?!.. SORRY if this is off the subject but people nowadays are building huge buildings to accomodate large amounts off people and forgetting the most important thing! parking lots!

I thought it was supposed to be a research center not a treatment center..
د. ناجي سعود الزيد كتب عن المركز من فترة، وكان تخوفه أن يقع فريسة الصراعات السياسية
And he was right!

you have too much time on your hand
the building looks bad and so out of date with the new international design standards and your talking about it like its a work of art! maybe up to the Kuwaiti point of view it is!
so sad…

This article is about a Dutch experiment which suggests that traffic works better if you get rid of traffic lights and bus lanes and things.

Just had an email from a student who finds it a bit odd that lecturers would be bloggers. Nice odd, though.

Just heard about this via LINGUIST. The bit that intrigued me is the suggestion that machines can measure how drunk you are based on prosody alone.
