Borakan….
lil asaf ur article was the only voice of reason in the newspaper! Read what other writers said in AlQabas in the past 2 days!!
Personally, I started a post about the issue and then gave up. I gave up when I saw the extent this issue reached, and how backwards people are, and how the herd mentality here rules above everything else! The voice of reason is lost…and this time its not just the people, its governments and businesses who are following this trend also as part of the herd!
When you have all the arab embassadors going to denmark and governments taking a stand against another government, and big companies like Carrefour (French company) in Dubai and Oman and Sultan Center in Kuwait (I called and checked) banning Danish products, and even educated people I talk to at work and outside work are into that and agree with the boycott….all because of a cartoon drawn by one person 5 months ago!!! This person may be ignorant and doesnt know that it is forbidden to depict the prophet, or he may not care and drew it anyway…..either way, its one freaking guy at a newspaper, not the Pope declaring war against Islam!!
….its the lowest point our society will reach! When we succumb to a few fundamentalists’ ideas!
To be totally honest its an issue that depressed me alot. Seeing all this passion and action and coordination on an issue like this and not even 1000th of that on something like how bad education is in our country.
I wish we can send one tape of a friday speech to these countries, and how we tell people on a weekly basis and pray that God destroys “alyahood walnasaara”, and that may their women be raped, and that we want them all to die, and we say this to our kids who attend the prayers and obviously expect to learn something…
We have a society that doesnt understand any kind of freedom of speech! Also, the idea that a newspaper does not represent a country is something that we cannot understand! Here, the newspapers are a puppet of the government, in Denmark, even the editor cant censor the cartoon writer bcz of his freedom and independance just like the newspaper!
Borakan…
When u see all these people rioting and following the herd without knowing anything or trying to read up on the issue is depressing…
When people have no understanding at all of freedom of speech, its depressing…
When all people do is ask the government for more free money and to drop all loans, its depressing…
When a Jordanioan newspaper editor is fired for showing the cartoons, which can easily be found anywhere on the net, its depressing…
When you have doctors calling to boycott insulin bcz of this, its depressing…
When you have Kuwaitis telling other Kuwaitis to boycott KDD, its depressing…
When you see your country going downhill with no bright future to look forward to, its depressing…
BoRakan, it feels exactly like being on a beach and watching a 10000 meter wave come straight at you and there is nothing u can do about it… you cant run and u cant resist it…thats how i feel about things
I give up. I am a sheep.
Now I have a question for you….after the scandal of the newspapers during the Emir issue and with the shit we have seen during the yrs from all newspapers including AlQabas, dont you think it is time for you to disassociate urself with the newspaper?? Isnt it time for you to get online and use AlJassem’s model? Not a single censored article and another proof to our dinosaurs that the world is not what it used to be and is not under their control…

Bu Rakan,
It’s a Saudi conspiracy masterminded by Chateaux Marai and Chateaux Al-Safi to increase the sales of their dairy products.
Cheers Bu Rakan!

“it feels exactly like being on a beach and watching a 10000 meter wave come straight at you and there is nothing u can do about it… you cant run and u cant resist it…thats how i feel about things”
From the comments on ur blog, u can see how much our ppl respect freedom of speech! All ur points are valid, yet u got personal threats and obscenities bcz of ur opinion, its a sad time we live in really….

People also have the freedom to react. The boycot was because the Dansih prime ministir refused to talk to the muslim embasdors, therfore they ordered the boycott, now as the danish PM and the editor of the paper apologised no need for the boycott. Muslims have the right to react in any way they want ( NOT TERRORISM OFCOURSE),any Danish people have the right to do and say whatever they want as they do not know that drawing a caricture of the prophet is something that is TABOO in Islam.
Another thing wathcing the bbc today (HARDtalk) Sackur asked the editor of the newspaper something about drawing a caricture about hitler, nazis and the jews, and if freedom of speech allow you to post something like this, the editor didn’t answer and turned around the question.
Anyways sorry, but this is how i see it, why do the people in Denmark have the right to draw cractiures that represet the Prophet, and people in here to not have the right to boycott them??
The way i see it is that the boycott will cause more hatered to us as muslims. Why? People will regard as a nation which gets proveked by a caricture, what these Imams should’ve done is to write to the newspaper and show their point of view, in a way that is firm, not harsh.

I feel like I was targeted for my “No more K.D.D” post…..!!!
even though I was sarcastic and clearly stated that we have a right to choose what brand we consume in regard to thier right to say what they want….!!!
personally I don’t feel the boycott will do much good but would like to see the true freedom of speech under pressure…..!!!
would it stand up to the opposition or not….!!!
I saw the caricatures and many of them showed or talked about other cartoonists afraid of drawing islamic fundimentalists or muslims….
Islam and the profit should not be effected by cartoons…..!!!
the best way in my opinion is on their turf we should play by their rules, file a suit on the newspaper or cartoonists, send letters of disapproval, show them the real muhammed pbuh…..
on our turf, you do what ever you want, boycott or not… it’s your own choice, but don’t kill, threat, or harm others…..!!!
you get confused of all the posts related to the cartoons, and I read hundreds of articles and posts regarding the issue, from all parts of the world….!!! even the japanese are discussing the issue….?!?!
both side are right and wrong as well and if we were to choose sides I would choose the muslim’s side….!!!
I’v lost track of what I was saying….!!!

To Q & All the people who agreed with him
look
What You don’t seem able to understand is the fact that people are boycotting Danish products not because of what this news paper said or this author , its because of the responses of the Danish government about the issue, here is the official responses of the Danish government:
1- the queen of Denmark called it a “freedom of speech” and told the author she encourage him to do more sketches like this about Islam to make the Muslims more aware of the “freedom of speech” right.
2-The Danish prime minister told Muslims they have NO RIGHT to protest , not even the right to protest! AND THEY PREACH ABOUT FREEDOM OF SPEECH!
3-There supreme court chief encouraged Muslims to accept the cartoons and told them THEY HAVE NO RIGHT TO PRESS CHARGES , again with RIGHTS .
it seems that the rights of freedom of choice is only reserved for Danish people in this matter and no one else , so when we talk about the boycott we are not targeting the companies , we are targeting the government of Denmark who in force taxes on those companies exports profits which reaches 100 million $ DAILY in the middle east area alone .
the news paper has nothing to do with the boycott , in fact I see the cartoon he did is nothing compared to other images in the internet on blogger sites every day of degrading Islam and the Koran you don’t see us boycotting these countries products, that’s because the countries of these bloggers didn’t say “well done” to those people , it simply kept there mouth shut or said “we are sorry this reflects only this person’s opinion not ours” if the Danish government did that ,then everybody would have backed off , remember “Salman Rushdi’ in the 80’s no one made a big deal about Britain’s choice to distribute the book , in fact it was distributed in all Europe and America , there was a “Fatwa” to kill the author not the rest of Europe because the governments “Again” Knew how to deal with the situation in a “smart way” which is a lot less then what I can say about the Danish government response.
Oh and by the way the news paper did apologize and we are still boycotting them because the government “STILL DIDN’T” how arrogant!
And if you think the boycott won’t effect them , take A look at this http://www.dairyreporter.com/news/ng.asp?id=65478
I hope you understood now that the boycott has nothing to do with this newspaper or the artist who did them , its about the Danish government POINT BLANK.

I don’t buy any of this , unless you want it to be stated as a fact not an excuse.. may be I will buy I am a sheep
as for quitting or protesting Journalism I have to admit .. it is a job to me not a hobby .I protested the in 1976 the direct censure of press and quit writing or working as a journalist .. no body offered me a job … That was all right then .. I had my inheritance then . Now all I have is my pension .. but still I am welling to live on if I have to . I did quit several times during the past years because of Alqabas censure .. but we always compromise .. alqabas need me and I need them .

Boycotts are OK. There are Jews who still refuse to buy German cars. But calls for blood and murder because of cartoons border on INSANE!
Btw, Sultan Center removed the Danish products after getting several threatening phone calls! This is what we have come to!!!!

Q if indeed you are a ’sheep’ as you claim, why do you not just quit blogging. Go to sleep, wake up, eat, go to work, maybe have another meal and then sleep again.
Why do you attack the Kuwaiti media?
Why do you criticise Syria?
Why do you speak out against corruption?
Why do you condemn our bloodthirsty fanatics?
Why do you get angry at people when they react to a cartoon with the burning of flags?
Why do you care?
Why do you write?
Hmmm…wait a minute…I get it…yes indeed you make perfectly logical sense; you are a ’sheep’!
*excuse the sarcasm oozing out of this comment*

Well these issues can get all tangled and mangled.
This “is” an important event. Who says otherwise anyway.
