I heard this on the radio a couple of days ago, not sure which station but I think it was BBC, and I was shocked when I heard it, and then I looked it up on the net and was even more surprised!
But after the last few days and looking at how things are being run in this country, and how the media is a joke and basically lies to people and trying to show everything as being picture perfect…..im not so surprised anymore!
Kuwait oil reserves only half official estimate-PIW
Friday 20 January 2006, 1:32pm EST
LONDON, Jan 20 (Reuters) - OPEC producer Kuwait’s oil reserves are only half those officially stated, according to internal Kuwaiti records seen by industry newsletter Petroleum Intelligence Weekly (PIW).
“PIW learns from sources that Kuwait’s actual oil reserves, which are officially stated at around 99 billion barrels, or close to 10 percent of the global total, are a good deal lower, according to internal Kuwaiti records,” the weekly PIW reported on Friday.
It said that according to data circulated in Kuwait Oil Co
(KOC), the upstream arm of state Kuwait Petroleum Corp, Kuwait’s remaining proven and non-proven oil reserves are about 48 billion barrels.
Officials from KOC were not immediately available for comment to Reuters.
PIW said the official public Kuwaiti figures do not distinguish between proven, probable and possible reserves.
But it said the data it had seen show that of the current remaining 48 billion barrels of proven and non-proven reserves, only about 24 billion barrels are so far fully proven — 15 billion in its biggest oilfield Burgan.
Kuwait has been adding up to 500 million barrels a year at Burgan which means the remaining non-proven reserves of some 5.3 billion barrels will likely be upgraded to proven, according to PIW.
Three consortia led by BP (BP.L: Quote, Profile, Research), Chevron (CVX.N: Quote, Profile, Research) and ExxonMobil (XOM.N: Quote, Profile, Research) are in the race for Project Kuwait, a 20-year operating service contract to raise crude capacity at four oilfields in the north of Kuwait.
So, more good news for the week, and another reason to thank our government, whichever it is or is going to be!
This news coming out caused oil prices to go up $2!
In a way this explains the government’s rush to persue the Northern oilfields projects, try to sell at these high prices and probably to try and check our reserves and see if we can find any more!
Meanwhile, the parliament in the past year asked for the government to drop all loan debts on people and to keep giving us more money after the 200KD gift given earlier!
Thank you and have a wonderful day in La La Land!

I heard a rumour yesterday night that Sabah AlAhmad and his side will pull some strings in trying to stop Salem AlAli’s statement that was sent to newspapers from being published.
Checking AlQabas, AlWatan, AlRaiAlaam, and AlSeyassah’s websites, it seems like he did it! Im not sure though, I only looked at the main headlines and nothing mentioned Salem AlAli’s statement!
I dont exactly know what the statement says word by word, but it basically says that Sheikh Saad will take the constitutional oath…therefore stopping Sabah AlAhmad’s claim for Emir!
And more from Reuters.
Also, Abdulla AlNaibari and Waleed Tabtaba’i both said that on Jazeera tv too…yet the newspapers seem to ignore this small peice of information that changes everything!
Also, the whole propaganda stunt on the official state TV earlier was very interesting to watch, with members of the royal family congratulating and giving their word to Sabah AlAhmad that he is their leader… yet nothing official came out and now it seems like the official statement proves otherwise, but is ignored in our local media…
Round 2 goes to Sabah AlAhmad, but was that a knock-out?!

I have to say it, the way the government and the leaders in the ruling family have handled this transition is an absolute joke and an embarassment!!
If Kuwait was a company, and something like this happened, it would lose all investor confidence because of the incredibly bad handling of this. Rumours have been going on nonstop for three days, and everybody and their mother was included in these rumours!
I said it before during their Ramadan feud. The situation is now a million times worse because we are talking about the main event!
It is so bad that I heard on the radio (it was Monte Carlo 107.3) that Sabah AlAhmad is the new Emir!!! WTF?! How can they say something like that when it is not even official!?? You know how….because there is nothing to stop them or confirm or dispute that claim!!
Whatever happened earlier today and was broadcast on TV didnt even mention the word ‘Emir’, and nothing can be announced by anyone until an official document مرسوم أميري is issued announcing the current Emir’s stepping down!
Why the hell do we have a ministry of information then?? Why do we have a ministry of foreign affairs?!?
How come our government doesnt have a crisis management plan or team or even consultants to help them through times like this?!? All we keep hearing is انتقال حكم سلس officially and then nothing! سلس my ass!! If this is an easy and cordial transition, id really hate to see what a bad one looks like!!!
I am really pissed off at the way this is being handled!!
End of rant!!

After the sad passing of the Emir earlier this week, everything was supposed to be figured out within the week or so to clear the view for us as Kuwaitis to know what is the future of our leadership.
The new Emir, Sheikh Sa3ad, is physically in very bad shape. In the newspapers, (which need a seperate post on how interesting each paper is biased on one side on the other) there was an argument on wether it is possible for Sheikh Sa3ad to be Emir without saying the oath (القسم الأميري).
Everybody in Kuwait was hoping for the ruling family to agree on something very quickly so everything can go back to normal. Unfortunately, it has gone the opposite way so far.
The situation as of last night is as follows -
Meeting #1 -
Early in the day, Sheikh Sabah invited members of the AlSabah family to his home for a meeting to figure everything out and solve all the issues. Everyone came except for Salem AlAli. Apparently his reasons for not coming are because
1) He was invited personally by Sabah AlAhmad, someone was sent to invite him.
2) the meeting that is supposed to decide the future of the Emir is being held somewhere else while the Emir is still alive and should be held at his place.
To be honest, both are valid points to a certain extent. The first point because of him being the elder in the family عميد العائلة and out of respect should be called personally. Anybody would do the same with their elder in the family. The second point is more valid for obvious reasons. Salem AlAli played that one perfectly, and said that another meeting should be done at the Emir’s place later that night.
Anyway, in that meeting, there was an agreement between everybody that Sheikh Sa3ad should step down from his position because of health reasons. As Emir, he will not be able to perform the required duties in the position he is in. There was a total agreement for that position from everyone except two people attending, who are from AlSalem side.
Meeting #2 - (also discussed in ساحة الصفاة)
Later that night, there was a second meeting, this time with everybody’s attendance. In this meeting, Sabah AlAhmad and everyone from the previous meeting stuck with his position that the Emir should step down, while Salem AlAli stuck with his position that Sheikh Sa3ad should remain as Emir as recognition for all he’s done to Kuwait and so on.
The meeting ended with both parties in more disagreement than before and therefore putting the future of Kuwait and the political stability in total chaos for the near future at least.
If the two leading men from our ruling family cant agree on something that determines the future of the country, I personally think that this is the time for all the other members of the Sabah family to start moving towards a settlement instead of watching the big heads and deciding on what position to take for personal future gain. This issue is bigger than someone’s own masla7a, and it is the perfect time for the younger generation in the family to have an active role in deciding the future of the country.
I am not sure what is the procedure that is enforced if no agreement is reached, but I think I read something about the parliament having a vote on whether the Emir can go on with his duties without saying the full oath. If it reaches that point, there will be the biggest battle of masaaali7 in the parliament ever! Both parties will try to get their say by any means possible!
It is also interesting watching the other peices of the chessboard move right now. Soo many examples in the couple of days that passed -
For example, Salem AlAli’s spokesperson (I have always said so and am totally convinced about that after yesterday’s article) Mohammed AlJasem, started attacking Jasem AlKharafi (who is on Sabah AlAhmad’s side) in his latest article, . Ahmad AlSadoun and his takattul started talking about how it is totally constitutional that the Emir can hold the position without the oath (Salem’s side)!! Al7araka aldistoriya (AlIkhwan) seem also to be on Salem AlAli’s side by stressing the need for فصل ولاية العهد عن رئاسة الوزراء which means disposing all power from Sabah AlAhmad. As for newspapers, it is funny to watch AlRai Alaam attack Ahmad AlSa3doon’s position on a daily basis on the front page, and also disputed AlQabas’s claim that Abdulla AlSalem (RIP) became Emir without the saying the full oath by showing a transcript of that day’s session (Sabah AlAhmad’s side).
It is interesting watching the different sides make their moves through all means possible right now, bes at the same time, and more importantly, it is really sad that we got to this stage!
The results of this feud will be costly, not only in political terms but also in financial terms. The stock market opens in two days, and with the instability we can only watch as people exit because of political fears, and if the KIA does as it announced two days ago that it will keep the market from collapsing, then that will also mean that the KIA will have to keep injecting money in the market until a solution is reached, and that money should be spent on the country and its people instead of being spent because of a personal feud!
The ruling family had 30 years to made decisions on what happens after sheikh Jaber (RIP), but as we see now, it is too little too late, o الله يستر و يخلي الكويت لأهلها

I saw this fatwa a week ago but didnt have time to post about it with the Eid holiday and all, but its worth mentioning for sure…..
No matter what anyone says, its a ridiculous fatwa, and before some of you start attacking me (you know who you are), let it be known that even though the fatwa came from a guy who is educated from AlAzhar, and is an ex-Dean in the college of sharia and law (عميد كلية الشرعية والقانون السابق), but was attacked by almost everyone else from AlAzhar.
All you married couple may not be married anymore according to this fatwa….enjoy -
