I am against the death penalty.
I think it is an uncivilized way of acting like God and deciding to end someone’s life. Anyway, reading this article today made me think about a couple of things.
First of all, we are executing 6 individuals who were charged with terrorist acts, while the people who incite these individuals, and brainwash young men to do ridiculous acts like that, walk away freely.
Basically, the seeds of all this terrorism are not even given a slap on the wrist, while the last part of the chain is cut off! These young men are easily replaced and multiplied by numbers too, whats the use in killing them while the first part of the chain remains there?
Anyway, the death penalty has become a regular part of our culture here, with news and pictures (unbelieveble) in the newspapers at all times. Our society is deeply disturbed, and you can see that in the large numbers of people who flock to see hangings at Naif palace! Young and old men and women go there like its a picnic, and they probably dont know anything about the person being executed! Its just live entertainment and an adrenaline rush to go there and see someone’s life being ended!!!
And most of the time its the same case as the one mentioned earlier, the pakistani or irani or whatever person being killed as the drugdealer is just an instrument used by the real drug trafficers and is very easily replaced!
We need to skip the small fish and concentrate on the big heads. In some cases, like the one above, the big heads are widely known, and they seem to be above the law so nothing will stop them from recruiting more people who might end up with the same fate as these six.

Since I voted in the Poll, I’ll postpone my opinion comment.
But what I want to say is that publishing pictures of executions is not civilised, well at least not in the front or last page …. think about children not Money!!

I voted yes.
December 28th, 2005 at 12:24 pm
I voted NO & a big one also, what’s wrong with them don’t they have enough money just to leave them in prison for th erest of their lives, i mean killing them is not a penalty, it’s kind of a reliefe .. keep them in prison that’ll kill them.

I oppose the death penalty because: (a): its irreversible, (b): its not a deterrent, (c): it is not applied equally, and will not be applied to those who deserve it, (d): just like you said, it has become something that resembles sports in the Roman arenas

I am very much against it. See what happened when they discovered DNA?

I’m with the death penalty, but disagree with this verdict.
December 28th, 2005 at 6:41 pm
am with it all the way , cause death penalty not ment to end lifes but to terror who might do same things from doing it and lose thier own , and am also against the phrase : not civilised ! …in any nation the penalties differ upon thier understanding to the misbehave …thats why its not related to being or not being civilised …its most related to how much u are affraid of spreading the wrong acts among the community !

I have a question to all those who are against the death penalty, if one of these terrorists killed a member of your family would you still be against it?
Personally I’m for the death penalty for those criminals who deserve it like those 3 monsters who raped a 5 year old child and be-headed her last year, what’s the point in sentencing them for live? it only gives the green card for others to do the same. Don’t forget some of the laws in Kuwait are pathetic i mean with a well know family name and a little money anyone could get away with it how many times have we seen that?
December 28th, 2005 at 8:29 pm
I agree with Demon that “it is not applied equally, and will not be applied to those who deserve it”
However, I do believe that it is a deterrent if would-be criminals knew that the law would justly apply to them no matter what and who they were.
Criminals who kill, rape, and mutilate in cold blood do not deserve to have a second chance at life luxuriating in prison while family members mourn the loss of their loved ones forever.

Thank you, Q
I voted No.
By the way, is it a final verdict or is there a chance for appeal?
December 28th, 2005 at 10:44 pm
i agree with the death penalty is some cases like the rape of the kid and as long as they are found guilty beyond resonable doubt..there is no point to keep them in prison and they might get of early and do the same again..i guess it depends on the case..its not a definite yes i am with or no i am against the death penalty…some people deserve it and some people might actually learn from their mistakes.

i voted no.. but its not a big no.. i believe SOME criminals deserve to die.. but in this case no.. these six could be used to learn more about terrorist activities in kuwait..
December 29th, 2005 at 4:22 pm
I want to vote NO, but then again…
December 29th, 2005 at 9:19 pm
excution !?… not in this case, remember these terrorists believe in the “cause”(reminds me of 24, 4th season), and aren’t afraid of dying by what they call the “infidels.” Excuting them is, as they trust, a short way to “paradise.”

للأسف ارجع واقول انه لو كان عندكم ايمان بدينكم جان ماكان هذا رايكم لأن الدين حدد عقوبة كل شي وامرنا ننفذها and we are not playing god we’re only doing what god told us to do

As with the last two, the effects were amazing with, inevitably, one or two disappointing moments (nothing as bad as the broomstick stuff at Hogwarts, though).

The film was good but there were a couple of creaky bits in the conversion from book to film. We wondered what it would be like for people who hadnt read the book.

And I don’t mean things like company imaging or brand messaging, response rates or demographic statistics, media reach or color scheme, total sales or actual profit either. That’s all marketing shit.

I had to ask myself if I could get used to a life like that. How much *exactly* did it bother me that He was not only serving Himself, but serving ME also?

Just heard about this via LINGUIST. The bit that intrigued me is the suggestion that machines can measure how drunk you are based on prosody alone.

It is not an easy yes or no. I feel that some real freaks, like those who rape women or children, murderers etc. should be executed for the good of the innocent and as a deterrent. Having said that, there is always room for abuse, specially in Kuwait as the laws are very flexible depending on who you know. There will always be goats being executed for having a bit of weed on them and that is sad.
However from a religious point of view, once the execution takes place, is the murderer absolved of his sin?
