Girgai3an 2004

When I got home today, I saw a huge group of kids on girgai3an near my place. My first thoughts were, “awww, this is nice! keeping the traditions.”

Then I noticed 3 things that really pissed me off!

* There were 15 kids, and 12 maids!!! (and yes I counted them)
* Four of the kids were on their mobiles!
* Three of kids were being carried by their maids!

What the hell happened to our society?!?

Obviously, it makes sense that things get worse this year, like they always do! But to my surprise, this year’s girgai3an experience looks much more positive to me!

I was driving around in the same area as last year, and saw sooo many groups of kids walking around, and just by luck I had 87.9fm on, and they were playing old girgai3an songs! So the spirit of girgai3an seemed really alive at that moment!

Things I loved about girgai3an 2005-

• The number of groups of kids, at least a dozen groups in the time I was driving around!
• The clothes these kids were wearing, all the little kids with their colored darraa3as and the guys with their dishdashas and ga7aafy!
• Some of the boys had their drums with them! (wain ayaam guwaa6y il Nido)
• I saw a considerably smaller number of maids! Only one group had two maids!
• The thing I loved the most was that I saw two groups with their mother with them!! That definitely was the highlight of the girgai3an observation!
• At least two stations I heard were playing girgai3an songs, 87.9 fm playing old ones, 88.8 fm playing modern ones.

Girgai3an is such a wonderful part of our culture, I hope this lasts forever while keeping the traditions of the past!

Keeping with the political spirit of things in the air these days, this Friday poll will be a very direct one…

By the way, I am talking about the period that comes after the Emir, Crown Prince, Sabah AlAhmad, and Salem AlAli (ba3ad 3umur 6uweel to all of them)!

When I opened Friday’s AlQabas, the first thing my eyes jumped to was this picture in the front page -

You may have seen this before somewhere, it was a logo started by BoJaij in his blog following this post earlier on this blog. BoJaij took the idea a step further and proposed a campaign against such shows and designed this logo -

Many other blogs have joined in this online campaign, some of the ones I can remember are Kuwait Unplugged, Mahmood’s Den, Kuwaiti Demon, MadM2000, and Ayya! If I forgot to mention any blogs, please fogive me.

Anyway, it felt really good seeing that in the front page of the newspaper, and then reading what they said inside, which was basically everything covered in the blogs!

So it seems we do have a voice here in our blogosphere! Previously, individual blogs were mentioned as a reference from certain writers such as Abdullateef AlDuaij when writing about a certain topic, which was great! But this is definitely a step further, this is a message that started online, and has reached the mainstream through one of the most popular newspapers, and on the front page!

Personally, I think that even though this is a small step for an issue that will not affect the future of the country, it is a great accomplishment to blogs and bloggers involved who either joined in the campaign or posted supportive comments!

Who knows how strong the blogs’ voice and effect will be in the future! This really is a very interesting subject, and seeing it in action makes it more interesting!

Everyone should be proud of what they did and of course a special thanks to BoJaij for his design and push for this campaign!

In the past 4 hours, since fu6oor time, I have recieved and heard so many different rumours! Writing them down here will only fuel things more and spread more rumours and chaos!

Rumours = instability, chaos, confusion….etc..

Spreading rumours can only weaken Kuwait’s unity! It also presents a chance for ‘outside’ forces that want to take advantage of the situation and even sides from within Kuwait like the terrorists and so on! The more uncertainty there is, the better their situation is!

Obviously, the reason for these rumours is that the people haven’t gotten anything solid yet! Even the message from the Emir to AlKharafi was vague and opens up many possibilities! What we need is at least a set time frame for a final announcement!

This issue is showing us many things about our government and our leaders, and the number of rumours and the speed of spreading them is proof of how things have gone out of control! What we need is an official announcement! Any announcement!

Also, we should do our part, stop spreading rumours plz!

أحداث الأيام القليلة الماضية أفضل من أي مسلسل رمضاني، و الجميل بالكويت أن جميع أطراف المسلسل تتوافد على الدواوين اليومية في رمضان، مما يزيد متعة الزيارات و “قَط الأذن”!

أكثر موضوع يتم تداوله هذه الأيام في الدواوين هو رسالة الأمير لرئيس مجلس الأمة و مكالمة سالم العلي للخرافي!

قبل أن أدخل في مسألة الحسم، أود أن أتطرق الى موضوع الخرافي. أنا لست من محبي الخرافي، و تصويته في موضوع حقوق المرأة أفقدني المزيد من الثقة فيه …. لكن، ماذا لو كان السعدون في الرئاسة بدلا من الخرافي في هذه الفترة الحساسة؟ كيف ستتم معالجة الأمور؟ مع كل احترامي للسعدون، لكن شخصيته الانفعالية لا تتماشى مع الأوضاع الحالية. دور الخرافي كوسيط بين الأطراف مهم جدا و تاريخي، و هو دور الطرف الثالث المحايد المسؤول عن المجلس و نوابه لا غير، و لا نية له بالتدخل، بالمقابل لو كان السعدون في موقعه لتغيرت طريقة تعامله بلا شك و قد يحاول فرض دور أكبر له مما يجب. شخصيا أفضل أسلوب الخرافي حاليا لكن لن نستطيع الحكم إلا بعد أن نرى النتائج مع مرور الوقت.

أما مسألة الحسم، فكان من المفروض أن تنتهي اليوم أو غدا، و لكن يبدو و انها تأجالت لأسبوع بانتظار وصول الشيخ سعد يوم الاربعاء القادم. المتوقع أن يتم تغيير في ولاية العهد حيث يعيين الشيخ صباح محل الشيخ سعد إذا أخذنا رسالة الأمير كتوصية للحسم.

وإذا افترضنا إن السيناريو السابق سيتم و أن القضية حسمت، فهل هذا حقاً يعتبر حسماً؟

الحسم الحقيقي هو بتسمية الشخص الذي سيأتي بعد الشيخ صباح! إذا لم تتم هذه التسمية فكأنه لم يكن شيء و سيتكرر المسلسل الرمضاني و التخمين و الاشاعات بعد فترة ليست طويلة!

سالم العلي أو صباح الأحمد هو حديث الساعة، لكن أي كان الاختيار، فهو حل قصير المدى (بعد عمر طويل لكل الأطراف)، و الاختيار الأهم هو اختيار الشخص المناسب من الجيل التالي ليكون قائد السفينة على المدى الطويل! و أتمنى أن يتم الاختيار على أسس صحيحة و ليست “شللية” أو “فلان ساعدني فيستاهل”!

تتوقعون راح تؤخذ الكفاءة كمعيار للاختيار؟؟ ما أتوقع، لكن ما يمنع إننا نتمنى!؟

I can’t believe its been one year since I started this blog! It feels like I just started!

You know what’s funny? Today is the blog’s first birthday, and yesterday was the blog’s highest ever visitor count, at 1262 page loads, by 603 unique visitors, which is also a record!

Great gift to the blog!
