I know I said I would comment on my latest post about blog anonymity, but due to very limited internet time on vacation, I decided to post a new topic and then come back to the latest post.
Today, some friends and I were discussing the effect of blogs on the culture, and how incredible it is and about the potential it has to change things, and that discussion brought us back to another form of communication that was extremely popular back in the day, mIRC.
mIRC is still alive today, but I dont know anyone who joins regularly. The funny thing is, that from my generation, everyone has a personality or a nickname that was used on mIRC several years ago! This goes back to the blogger anonymity post in a weird way.
I think that everyone using blogs now was a mIRC user back in the day. We used nicknames and aliases and there was a whole culture raised using that chat program. My nickname back then was `3efreet. I rarely joined chanels like #kuwait or but I know for a fact that many people did, and many bloggers were regular IRCers.
So what was ur nickname then?
And how is blogging any different than blogs? Is it just another passing phase?!

My older siblings were more into mIRC than I was; I was about fourteen when I started but I was never an addict. I did go back during my freshman year in college, out of curiosity, and I was surprised that there were many mIRC old timers still around. I chatted on the ‘public’ forum, got kicked out a couple of times, and soon uninstalled the program after some people popped up on my task bar, interested only in cyber promiscuity.

Is it just another passing phase?!
yes very much so, and soon would we switching to another “phase” !
i think the differences are :
1- people in here seem to be more mature.
2- discussing many “important” topics which might help someone to be “enlightened” in away .
3-having ur own blog is like having ur own diary book which is kinda cool. the things u write wont be erased as soon as u “logout”.
i didnt use mIRC ,,, i used “firetalk” where we used mics lol ,, my nickname was “carita” . (i KnOw 7addy teenager)

I’m sorry, but I nearly spit out my Coke when I read Bo_Ghazi’s line, “they later realize that farawla is noone but some hairy dude holding a cigarette in one hand and big can of diet cock in the other.”
Yes, I’m 12.

I can remember when the Kuwait channel was all the rage on IRC ( before it got kinda silly). We used to talk politics and religion sometimes, and other times it was just pure innocent drivel. Those were the days. But I didn’t hang around long, in any case. Wow, talk about a blast from the past! There were some very genuine and wonderful friendships that were forged in those days from IRC and the Kuwait channel.
Remember /kick ?? LOL! And getting ops!

/Flamingoliya slaps MsBaker with a large trout (glad to know you were there)
If this is just a phase, we shall all then move together to the third. Together forever (I got emotional after knowing many of you people were there too)

Aah .. good days. In my opinion, mIRC was fun up until 1998.

To most bloggors, this is only a fad, ’till the next technological innovation.
However, it makes a nice personal diary, or journal, for now.
