I mentioned inflation a few weeks ago in this post.
Today, we get news that people are fearing inflation and noticing it, with the minister of commerce and industry answering questions about the issue.
So, Kuwaitism reported it first! ;P
Well anyway, other than breaking the news before anyone else, how healthy do you think this is?? The fact that the government delibirately stops products from increasing prices, even when the economy itself means they should.

الاغلبيه “و انا منهم” عايشيين على مبدأ أصرف ما فى الجيب ياتيك ما فى الغيب
ارتفاع الاسعار يحتاج شوية قرارات من الحكومه تحرر التجاره و تفكها من الاحتكار لخلق منافسه
و ايضا حماية التجار و المستهلكين من الغش التجارى
الله يسامحك يا اللى أقترحت زيادة المعاشات

There are certain essential products (mainly food) that need to remain at a low price to ensure that everybody can attain their basic needs. If prices go up slightly, it might not affect you directly, but foreigners and other low-salary civilians might find it harder for them to survive. Just imagine bread chaning from 20 fils to 50 fils. That would mean you could only get 1 piece of bread instead of the previous 5. Bread production slows down, bread-makers are less needed, the economy goes downhill.

the problem here in kuwait isn’t that families and how they think
the problem is companies , salaries do no increase , hell government salaries were frozen since 1991
and i agree with government control , our market is small if we let it open 90% of the local companies would crash and burn in 2-3 years

Its clear that this would happen. Talking about a comittee at the MOC to monitor the prices etc… they cant do that & logicaly the prices will go up as a natural result of increasing the salaries.

زيادة الأسعار طبيعية و متوقعة فى ظل إرتفاغ أسعار كل شئ عالميا من السراويل إلى النفط
و من غير المعقول أن تتحمل حكومتنا مسؤولية إطعام شعب بأكمله بدعم المواد الغذائية و الإستهلاكية الأخرى و كأننا فى دولة شيوعية أو تحت الحصار الإقتصادى - لا سمح الله
نعم فى جميع دول العالم المتحضر و المتخلف هناك أشكال من الدعم الحكومى لحماية المنتج المحلى و بالغالب هذا المنتج يكون زراعى و هذا ما هو حاصل عندنا هنا أيضا و لا بأس بذلك و لكن أن يكون الدعم للآلاف من المواد الإستهلاكية فى ظل إرتفاع مدخولات المواطنين و تحسن الإقتصاد فهو غير مفهوم و لا داعى له
المنتج المحلى الذى لا يستطيع أن ينافس المستورد …يعنى أنه منتج أقل جودة و بالتالى عليه أن يتطور أو يختفى و هذا أمر طبيعى جدا و لو لم يكن كذلك لسادت المنتوجات السيئة الأسواق - و لم نميز الجيد منها
لا أعتقد أن هناك من سيتضور جوعا بسبب إرتفاع سعر الكعك أو عصير المانجا فأغلب الكويتيين و لله الحمد يصرفون على الأكل و المطاعم دون التفكير بالتكاليف و الدليل هو أطنان الأكل الزائد التى تذهب للقمامة يوميا و التى بسببها خلقت جيوش من القطط
أما غير الكويتيين فمتى تم تحديد سقف أدنى للرواتب لحماية المساكين منهم فلا خوف عليهم من الجوع
تحديد الأسعار أو تجميدها يقتل روح المنافسة و الإبتكار بين المنتجين….فعلى سبيل المثال أسعار وجبات اللحم بالمطاعم من كباب و شاورما و ريش و تكا تم وضعها من قبل وزارة التجارة فى فترة الستينات و على حسب سعر كيلو اللحم ولم تزداد فلسا من 30 سنة….و لا يهم ماهو مصدر و جودة و نوعية اللحم و لذلك نشاهد و نسمع عن كثرة حالات الغش ببيع لحوم منتهية الصلاحية أو الفاسدة….فلماذا يهتم البائع بجودة لحم الشاورما إذا كان سعر السندويشة واحد و لا يتغير…حتى لو باع لحم تماسيح بدل من لحم الغنم…
الدعم لا بد أن يرفع…بعد أن تتم معالجة الأوضاع الخاطئة الأخرى كقلة رواتب بعض الجاليات….و المحافظة على بعض أنواع الدعم ..مثل الدعم الزراعى…و دعم البلوجرز

Firt of all, Im really happy that to see the different views on this subject, doesnt happen that often!
Now to responses …
mark, thats part of the problem. Salaries did increase indirectly by the government to Kuwaitis, while forgetting the 50% other non-Kuwaiti residents of the country! Something in this whole thing is not right, the salaries increasing for some people, the prices rising for some products, and the government interfering with the market prices.

3baid, ok but if the salaries increase, that means the companies have to pay their workers more, while not raising their bread prices, which in turn means losing money and the same result happens…If they dont raise the wages of their workers, their workers will be screwed when everything else goes up!
forza, government control to what limit?? To the point where they force companies to price their products or else!?

Inflation is a global phenomumnm and its rate will increase annully no matter how low salaries are in whatvere region that is.
As mentioned in Kuwait salaries were fronzen since 1991 therefore inflation will be unacceptable. Ok the role of MOC is to control that inflation and provide us consumers with benfits do you know what are they? Absolutly NOTHING……!
consumer support yeah right i never heard of a country in which products are unexchangable or unrefundable unless its a couminst country.
Minisrty prevents copied products from the market to insure the monopoly of the merchants then tell ”us u people waste money” how ironic?!
now they claim that the local inflation is a result of Kuwait`s export products prices have incresed???? hmmmmmm if they meant oil thats fine but what else does kuwait export????
