So Starbucks in Kuwait decided to increase their prices! All items are up by 50-150 fils.
So I ask an employee for the reason for this price raise, and he said that its bcz they havent changed their prices in the past 9 yrs. I didn’t really think much about it, figured prices of coffee must have gone up in recent years so they decided to raise prices. Then I go and ask a couple of other employees about the increase, and I was told that it was only done in Kuwait!
That annoyed me!
I admit I am a regular at starbucks, at least once a day, but this kind of turned me off for a while!
To be fair, Costa’s coffee is much worse and is way more expensive that Starbucks, so it still is a better deal in terms of comparison. I remember buying an iced latte from Costa for 1.300KD, and the cup was like those tiny sample cups u get, plus it sucked!! At Starbucks, now its 1.300KD for a grande latte, which is better than Costa in terms of price, but still sucks at principal!
Im sure Starbucks in Kuwait is making more money than most Starbucks outlets in the world, so why mess with a winning formula?!?
So I thought, ok, the only other explanation is that they see some kind of inflation and they want to adjust their prices for that. If that’s true, then I should expect them to lower their prices when the economy goes bust?!?
I personally think its a case of “Kuwaitis can afford it….if we lose 5% of our business bcz of that, we’re already increasing near 10% margins, so just raise the price!”
I cant wait for Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf to open in Kaifan! Thats the only alternative, but its only in Salmiya for now, and I think will open within a couple of weeks closer to this side of town in Kaifan!

I can’t believe you prefer starbucks to costa…that is just insane…I won’t even go near a starbucks coffee…and if I really have to I’ll just go for the frapp (only if I HAVE to).
\end of flame.
CBTL ROCKS SO BAD! I’m a “regular.” Try the genseng peppermint tea…nothing quite like it.

in the U.S u can get a grand latte for only 1$ other than that the americans wouldn’t buy it !
if u compare the starbucks prices here in q8 with those in the U.S u’ll find a HUGE difference ! they’re much cheaper in the U.S .. but the problem is as u mentioned before .. in kuwait people would still buy ! so why not raise the prices ?
July 17th, 2005 at 10:23 am
Allah y3afi chocolate Nesquick :p The people r still going to go to Starbux regardless of the price, for them it’s the #1 tethebe6 place in Q8

shady, at least we agree on something! Coffe Bean really is excellent! I will ignore ur whole comment on starbucks ;P
mouther courage, actually a grande latte is around $4 in the US, which is still less than 1.300 in today’s prices. 1.300KD is around $4.5, so it still is more expensive that the US, ur right!
tequila, why is a non-coffee drinker commenting on a coffee related post?! ;P

Hello there, I’m a mjor coffee drinker, I won’t be able to function through the day without drinking my fix first thing in the morning.
I personally won’t buy Starbucks unless there is nothing else around. I do prefer Costa or Second Cup and am still waiting to taste Coffe Bean. I agree the iced drinks in Costa aren’t great but try the capuccino there its quite tasty in fact its much better than STRBKS even though its more expensive.

Q,
Adre ban6ag:P
I go to starbucks to get me a chocolate croissaunt and a snapple.
But I switched (rakkiz 3ala el switch) to Costa recently coze i liked their chocolate croissaunt better
and their quiet atmosphere. But they don’t have snapple so i drink a seven up instead

Ew Starbucks, I never touch what they call coffee. Everyone knows for the true barrista coffee experience it is all about Casper.
Mark informed me earlier this week that McDonalds also raised their price.

From today till next Sunday, I will also join BoMaryoom in boycotting starbucks, albeit temporarily!! Itha muqa6a3at il KNCC saarlaha now since last Ramadan and still going, I believe I can survive a week without starbucks, which will mean an earlier wake up to go to Second Cup or something similar!

July 17th, 2005 at 11:35 am
Starbucks is good for a coffee fix on the go or when there’s nothing better around. But I know a guy who has taken it to the extreme, he hunts down Starbucks wherever he goes in the world. Imagine skipping all the wonderful cafes everywhere and giving up waiter service to go stand in line at fucking Starbucks! I’m not a coffee drinker and even I know that theirs is just average. This guy once complained that Rome didnt have any Starbucks!!
(Imagine me hollering at him at the top of my lungs) YOU WANT A FUCKING STARBUCKS IN THE LAND THAT INVENTED THE ESPRESSO AND CAPPUCINO??!! YOU FUCKING PRETENTIOUS LOSER!!!

oh, i did not notice the price increase .. the grande caramel frappachino is normally 1.550 KD and i think it is the same now. From what i recall caramel macciato is 1.450 KD. If you want you could email Starbucks and ask them about the price increase, or call al`shayee3 and ask them, but before you do that make sure you have proof about the price increae. Ya3nii either buy the drink and have the recipt
or capture the menu list and the prices.

and yeah McDonalds recently increased the prices of their super value meals (fillet-o-fish combo, double cheeseburger combo etc..) by 150fils.
July 17th, 2005 at 12:20 pm

July 17th, 2005 at 12:35 pm

iDip, it just goes with the big picture!
July 17th, 2005 at 12:44 pm
Could it be that this increase in prices has something to do with our Government increasing our salaries?!?!
Think about it!!
July 17th, 2005 at 12:51 pm
ana mo raddah 3alai the 50 or 150, I go there once a month or so.. what is killing me is that I hate change, tall lattee is 1 KD, no change to give back.. now I have to get change.. I hate that soooo much..
July 17th, 2005 at 12:56 pm
Yeah BoGhazi it has to have something to do with it. Lots of money in the country, salaries increase, stock market up, government throwing money at people, its the next logical step!
So far from the comments we get -
- Starbucks
- KDD
- McDonalds
Im sure there is more to come!
Don, ME TOO! When i got to the counter and gave the guy 1.250 and he asked me for another 50fils, its like the universe lost its balance! I kept insisting its 1.250, he was telling me there was a price increase, and i got pissed off about having to carry change now!
July 17th, 2005 at 1:18 pm
I never been to Starbucks here in Kuwait and not planning to
I dont like coffee ( Yes I dont like its taste-flavor-scent )
Whats the big deal about bucks anyways?
Starbucks coffee is a blue collar coffee joint in the States…you go there and see homeless people and construction workers standing in line…Just like Mcdonalds there….Suddenly every Kuwaiti is a latte drinker…give me a break…e7na sha3b el chay 7aleeb wel darabeel…and its never about the coffee, its about the girls with saloon grade make up and guys with spiky hair swimming in a grande cup of crap together

Q the real reason behind Starbux increasing their prices is Kopi Luwak they’re using that brand of coffee now :p
July 17th, 2005 at 1:55 pm
Only in Kuwait: “Valet” at starbucks. That’s Hot! Maybe thats what your paying for Q.
Plus, The one by the church. In the eavning it gets so crowded, and I was with an alshayee employee who suggested that starbucks should have a “10KD” cover charge payed at the door because it reminded her of the bar scene where she is from. (Which was hilarious)..

coffee bean is opening in Keifan and Ahmadi in August. In Keifan they are located right by the Keifan University and in Ahmadi they are located in KOC hospital.
Coffee bean has the best coffee, cheapest price, and largest quantity. Oh and the best service.
I’m glad you like the place…
