Is it just me, or did the number of taxis increase 1000% in the past couple of years?!?
If you haven’t noticed it, make an effort during driving and you will see what I mean! There are so many taxis all of a sudden! And they all look different and have silly names with sillier spelling!
How about centralizing them?! Lets have an organized, modern, good looking, well monitored fleet of taxis! The old orange ones are crap now, but they had character at least! I wish I had a picture of them….
Anyway, here are a few examples of taxis worldwide….
The famous New York cab…
Of course, the famous London black cabs…

This is a picture of the impressive new Qatari taxis, with the old one in the frame. These new ones are government owned but are excellent! They are a bit more expensive than the old ones but what you get is a car that is cleaned everyday inside and outside (they ave to otherwise they’re fired!), and you really can appreciate the cleanliness! Also, its modern, the staff is trained and have a neat uniform, and technologically its impressive with a flat screen interactive meter/gps.

Dubai taxis are pretty good too, nothing special, but at least they’re clean and organized!

In Kuwait, we have a million taxi companies with each having a different design and different car, they’re everywhere but totally unorganized! I haven’t been in a taxi in Kuwait yet, so I cant judge how effecient they are or how clean. But I think they should all merge to form one giant taxi company that is well regulated!

I’m not quite sure of this info but I was told that Kuwait is trying to make all the Taxi cabs in Kuwait look the same! Apparently they will all look similar to the ones in Dubai but have different names to distinguish the firm! Other than that the paint scheme of the vehicle and the “Taxi” sign should be the same!
If this info is wrong please tell me! Thanks!

Stallion.. I sincerely hope you are right. It’s about time!
And why the hell can’t we flag them down on the streets??!

I used to be a regular customer of Kuwaits taxis. Bo 3adnan from AlQuds Taxi was “da man” :p
Cleanliness & efficiency of the cab drivers, well that depends from one company to the other, and how long has the driver spent in Kuwait matters as well. But if there’s one thing they all have to do (taxi companies that is) is to install the charge meter in each & every car. I mean ok they did, but its not operated, & the drivers themselves don’t like it if you asked them to switch it on!

i don’t think they increased , they just let them roam now
before you couldn’t find a roaming taxi , you had to call them
and that was also the reason most didn’t care much to show that they are taxi , mostly used a sticker on the back

I noticed the increase the last time I was in Kuwait. People in Kuwait actually use Taxis?

Stallion, I hope ur right! I know that recently I saw taxis with a proper yellow TAXI sign on top and they are colored white and beige, I think these are the ones u mean, right?
Zaydoun, I see them slow down and stop at bus stations to see if anyone is interested, so im sure they wouldnt mind if u flagged them down on the street!
Boghazi, when was the last time uve been in a taxi? Do they have the charge meters in the cars?
forza, no im definitely sure they increased! After writing this post I left work and I wanted to see the number of taxis on the way to home, I counted at least 10! And they were all different styles and companies. A couple of years ago you would not see this many for sure!
BoJaij, ok I remember using the taxi a few times but that was back in the day ayaam highschool when we went to salmiya and got stuck there! Havent been in a taxi for at least 10 yrs!

shopaholic, I think it has alot to do with the increase in numbers of foriegners in Kuwait. You see foreigners in these taxis all the time going to malls and so on…

The Qatari & Dubai taxis look pretty neat in comoparison to the hodge podge of different taxis we have in Kuwait. I agree that they have increased; and they are not always the best drivers on the road.
We were just dicussing this topic yesterday and how all the new companies must be affecting the Orange Cabbies. Then we saw one to the left of us, with about 6 people squashed in the front and back and the car looked all battered along the front from an accident.

Q, I used one 2 months ago coming back from the garage to my house. When I first got in, he told me it’ll cost 2 KD. Yet I insisted that he starts the meter.. I ended up paying an additional 0.250 fils for that!!
Me and my big mouth :p

have you seen the ones in Bahrain, Q??? They are awesome…Called bahrain limo…all posh cars. lexus and mercedes usually and latest models..and they even go by a new top of the line digital meter..and believe it or not…they’re much cheaper than the old cabbies with their beat up old cars..who have the nerve to charge whatever they please… don’t get me wrong…the old men driving those old cabbies break my heart but if they want to compete they should lower their fares. don’t you think?? or they won’t stand a fighting chance…to beat the newcomers

Q: I too hope to see a unified Taxi system here!
Zaydoun: You don’t need to flag them down! They honk at you to get your attention! When a cab driver honks at you he’s pretty much asking if you need a ride!
Kuwaitigirl: The other day I passed a cab here in Kuwait and it was a Benz!
If I had a choice to use a cab I’d preffer to use the old school orange cabs! I would presume that the old guys would have tons of stories to tell and those stories would be interesting!
BTW I’ve never used a cab here in Kuwait!

I also heard they are trying to get them to all look alike BUT as for the flagging down of taxis I know it wasn’t allowed for taxis to simply pick up people of the streets. It was just about security.. since all the taxi companies are “bakkalas” they were worried about kidnappings and rape I believe. Until now not all taxis have to right to pick up people off the road. I believe only some of them have permits to do so…. I also have to see I hate the ads they are placing on taxis… their cars are too small for them, unlike the new york cabs

If you can’t beat them….. Find a way around them….
With so many changes made to their algorithms Google, Yahoo and MSN!!! How can anyone keep pace with them “Personally” it’s impossible, unless you’re using SEO Elite™ 3.2
Google’s last update had sites that were ranking in the top ten suddenly disappear BUT for those that started using the SEO 3.2v software suddenly they realized where the changes were made and adjusted accordingly and are now back to their previous position or better.
How is that possible???? Any site ranking in the top ten is optimized in accordance with the updated algorithm which could be anything from Back Links, Keyword Density just to name a few, So how would you know what has changed…
You can with SEO Elite 3.2v
