U hear all kinds of ringtones in Kuwait, from a simple beep to 3aisha almar6a to heavy metal! The latest trend apparently is a recording of athaan (call to prayer)! The sound of athaan is a very relaxing one, but there’s nothing more disturbing than sitting at a restaurant, and all of a sudden you hear someone in the next table screaming as loud as they can calling for prayer! Its scary, and personally I dont think its appropriate at all!
Why use an athaaan as ur ringtone? Are u trying to tell everyone that you are religious? And why the hell is it that every person who has athaan as their ringtone apparently have it at the loudest possible volume? If you are against music, then use a simple beep!
The point of the ringing is to tell you that your phone is ringing, in Kuwait, its more of a statement!
Personally, I use the old fashion ring ring….

A regular, old-telephone ringtone. Like the one you hear it in the old black/white Egyptian movies.
and btw, I don’t think the “athan” you heard was a ringtone… its a new feature in mobiles, where ur mobile is equipped with a reminder of the 5 prayers. Ur mobile is set to announce or call for all prayers as per Kuwaiti time.

What about “la6miyat” for a ringing tone?
Have you come across that yet?
Personally, I don’t care what your ringing tone is as long as you keep it low..
And people, if it takes you more than 3 seconds to figure out the caller’s identity, then please, press the silece button.

u r so right, one more thing: athan is a prayer call, it’s meant to be so (well I think), so why “calling for a prayer” at any time!!!
my regular ringtone is an old fashioned phone ring, almost like the sound of a rusty & dusty old phone, but I do have some ringtones for some of my contacts (important ppl to me) so if I’m away from the phone I know who’s calling, u can call it “ring-tagging”

I assigned different ring tones to different people as well so I can differentiate between callers without looking at my phone. But most of the times I forget my phone on silent after each yoga class ( almost everyday) and do not notice that until the time I attempt to charge my mobile before going to sleep and find loads of missed calls and messages LOL.
Breathe by Sean Paul is my favorite tone though.

athan shouldn’t be used as a ringtone , i agree with bo ghazi , its mostly the mobile reminding of prayer time ( how you would not hear it in kuwait i have no idea )
my grandfather has one , we had to make him close it at last ramadan
i use many Midi tunes , i search for midi songs and use them as ringtones , my latest are vertigo and bulvard of broken dreams

You remember the Hardy Gurdy ringtone from Nokia phones ?? for some reason I was fascinated with that particular ringtone, and since I am using an i-mate, I had an old recording from an old Nokia phone, and now I uploaded it to my i-mate and using it.. The funny part that most of people when they see me looking for my phone to pick it up, they think it’s the old Nokia, and I always get comments about the surprise when they see that it’s an i-mate.. But all in all.. i-mate sucks as a phone.. but other features are amazing..

I personally prefer the midi ringtones rather than polyphonic or anything else, either that or the regular tone.

NOTHING could be less dignified than when you’re sitting in a serious meeting with some bigshot, and then his mobile goes off with a Nancy Ajram or Haifa Wehbe ringtone!!
