First of all, Id like to thank everyone who participated in the advice post. I got some really interesting and good comments, but it made me think about personalities as opposed to these pieces of advice.

How much does the advice given reflect the person’s personality?

Allow me to wear my Freudian cap and analyze…..for example,

Now I know how the writers for the horoscope pages feel like ;P

Let the abuse…………begin!

I usually dont post anything until I think the earlier post took its deserved time, but since the earlier post is more of a one line advice thing instead of discussion, ill make an exception this time. I also think this is interesting, and would like to see what you think.

I recieved an email forward from boghazi earlier today titled FW: Modern History, so I opened it, and what do I see?? I see the four ads that I posted here on Kuwaitism!

I had mixed feelings seeing that! On one hand, I am flattered that I am being used as a reference and copied in a way. On the other hand, it annoyed me that there was no mention of Kuwaitism or the source of the pictures!

I know this may sound weird, why would I worry about such a thing? If I posted it here, then it must be for the general public, right? Well, yes. BUT….I did spend many many hours finding these ads and scanning them. To be honest, my feeling of annoyance has overshadowed my feeling of being flattered, so I decided that, from now on, I will try to keep my copyrights by putting my address on all the pics that I scan!

Am I making too big a deal out of nothing? I want to know what you people think about this Kuwaitism copyrights dilemma!

What piece of advice about life would you give your child if you had only one chance to say something?

I know I have been very slow when it comes to restaurant reviews, but I have been very very busy lately. Anyway, back by dope demand (shakhbary lol), Q’s Restaurant Review is back!

This time, I will be reviewing Noodasia, the latest addition to Marina Crescent. It is located near the coffee shop tche tche, above Kai restaurant.

I have walked past the place a few times before. Before it opened, all they had covering the windows was a poster for National Fish Company, the company that owns it. The whole time, I figured it was going to be a seafood restaurant or something. That was very stupid of them! Why waste that space!?! Why would a restaurant waste the opportunity to have a free ad for a few months and get the name and publicity out to all the visitors to the place?! Anyway, I hate stupid small things like that but thats not what Im here to tell you.

Back to the issue at hand….food! So my wife and I decided to check this place out, and even though I have a ‘no marina mall on weekends’ policy, I still decided to go there because I promised my wife to take her there, and I know I wont have time the coming couple of weeks.

We got there at around 7:30, we were starving, and we got up extra late so didnt have lunch. The place was empty, there was one table busy outside, but it was empty inside. Thats not a great sign, but we figured its just too early. We decided to sit inside, near the window. The place felt cold, not temperature cold, but just soulless cold. The colors were shades of blue and grey, and they didnt have any music. So I asked for music, and it felt just a tad more comfortable. Its not a bad place at all from the inside, its actually pretty nice, its just cold, but maybe thats bcz it was empty!?

We ordered:

  • Starters: lobster salad, chicken and shrimp spring rolls (4 pcs), and duck dumplings (4 pcs)
  • Main: Beef with black pepper, Kung Poo Chicken with egg noodles
  • Side: Vegetable fried rice
  • Dessert: Banana fritters with vanila ice cream

Again, please remember that we were starving!

The lobster salad came first, and it was absolutely amazing, I would say it was the best dish we ordered! The spring rolls and dumplings were very good too. The only problem with the starters is that the portions are small. Not tiny, but small.

Then came the black pepper beef, the noodles, and the rice. These portions were much better, and they just continued the excellent taste that we got with the starters. I couldnt decide on which was my favourite, I really liked both the chicken noodles and the beef.

After the great starters and mains, it was time for dessert. No review is complete without going the whole nine yards. After a long that was too long, we got our banana fritters and vanila icecream, with chocolate sauce on top, which wasnt mentioned in the menu. I love that, but unfortunately, my wife doesnt eat chocolate, so they had to make a new one, with the chocolate sauce on the side for me. So after an even longer wait, we got it….and it was worth the wait! If you want the perfect bite, get some hot banana fritters, with vanilla icecream, and smother them with chocolate sauce and honey. Its the closest you’ll reach to nirvana!

Believe it or not, we wiped out every single dish, the two of us cleared every plate. Its that good!

The food was unlike anything you would get here in Kuwait. When you want to have asian food here, you end up going to a Chinese restaurant, and you either get a really high end fancy restaurant, or a crap cheap restaurant. The kind of food is either really good classic food (Peacock, Greens), or just chinese fast food. Sometimes you want something that is not quite peacock style, and in Kuwait, until now, there was nothing to offer such an alternative. The style of food at Noodasia is similar to that of Noodle House in Dubai, or Wagamama in London (but much better than wagamama).

To make a long story short, the food was excellent! More importantly, its the only place where you can get that kind of food….finally!! Oh, and they dont do that stupid thing of closing during the afternoon, they’re open from 11am till late…thank God!

After all that wondeful food, we ordered the bill, and it came out to less than 20KD! GREAT value for what you get! Weirdly enough, by the time we left, 9ish, it was still empty, just a couple of more tables, while Johnny Rockets, Blue Fig, and Asha’s were full! Doesn’t make any sense!

Final Grade - 91/100

Noodasia, silly name, excellent food!

I have nothing to post on, but I found something interesting using statcounter.com, the best website to get stats on your website.

Anyway, when I wrote the thing on Tabtaba’i earlier, an Islamic messageboard mentioned my website, and they used they described it as a “khamma” website! I had the honor of being with zaydoun and abu 7afs in the same column as khamma. Anywaaay….that is not what I wanted to say….the point is, I was mentioned there. On that particular day, I had more visitors that I ever did since I started this blog.

When I say more, I dont mean they broke the record by 10 or 20 visitors, my visitor count nearly DOUBLED in one day!! Check out this graph, it gives you the number of visitors, and you can see that the number is increasing gradually since starting. If we take the pageloads as a measure, you can see that I got 600 pageloads twice, and that is considered great! On that one day, I had 1163 pageloads! Sweet!

Sij inna Any publicity is good publicity ;P So anyone else want to say crap about me at any website or blog or messageboard, by all means, please do!!

By the way, notice how the number dips on weekends!! Just shows how busy you people are during work ;P

This graph shows the diverse crowd of visitors, thought it was interesting too. I would love to know who’s from Hong Kong? Bcz whoever that person is, he or she visits everyday!

This is an ad for Pepsi…..all the way back from 1960!

I like absolutely EVERYTHING about this ad….

Chaim Weizmann (1874-1952), one of the co-founders of the State of Israel, became its first president in 1948. He died on November 9 in 1952.

After Weizmann’s death Albert Einstein was asked to stand as a candidate for the presidency of Israel. The idea came from the editor of the biggest Israeli newspaper. The Israeli government then decided to offer Einstein this office and the Israeli minister-president David Ben Gurion (1886-1973) ordered his ambassador to the US in Washington, Abba Eban (1915-2002) to ask Einstein in Princeton whether he wanted to take over the office. In the telegram to Abba Eban it said among other things: “[…] Please find out immediately whether Einstein would accept the election (by parliament) to be Israeli president. […] Please telegraph his answer immediately. Ben Gurion.”

Before the offer of the ambassador reached the 73-year-old Albert Einstein in Princeton, Mercer Street 112, there was already a great disquiet in the household. Einstein had already been informed about the offer to become president of the State of Israel by the New York Times. There were subsequently many phone calls from people who wanted to know whether he would accept the offer. The telegram of the ambassador arrived in Mercer Street 112 on the evening of November 17 in 1952. Einstein was very excited and he found the offer unpleasant. He considered how to tell the ambassador he wanted to decline the offer and decided not to send a telegram but to phone the ambassador in Washington directly. In this conversation Einstein declined the offer in a friendly way and deeply moved. The ambassador asked Einstein for a written statement. Einstein fulfilled this request. In a letter which he wrote the next morning he formulated his decline. Among other things he wrote: “I am deeply moved by the offer from our State of Israel (to serve as President), and at once saddened and ashamed that I cannot accept it. All my life I have dealt with objective matters, hence I lack both the natural aptitude and the experience to deal properly with people and to exercise official functions. Therefore I would also be an inappropriate candidate for this high task, even when my old age didn’t interfere with my forces more and more. […] … I wish from the bottom of my heart that a man is found who will be able to take over the hard and responsible office due to his work and his personality.”

Einstein’s letter was handed over to Abba Eban by an Israeli legate who had collected the letter in Mercer Street.

First of all, I never knew this before, it amazed me when I found out!

Second of all, there are two great lessons we can learn from this story….

  • Good PR!! How smart was it to ask Albert Einstein to be President? He’s not a politician, he’s not a public speaker, and more importantly, he doesn’t even live in Israel! BUT….they still had their eyes on him for the position. If he accepted it, it would’ve made a huge difference in Israel’s progression. They will have had a Nobel Prize winner who is well respected and loved all over the world as the face of Israel. I just think this was a great PR stunt / attempt.
  • The guy shows how smart he is. Over here, you have people trying to kick a minister out because none of their people got to be minister. You have people who are willing to sell their family for a position. I love his response, sij رحم الله مرء عرف قدر نفسه . I wish we had more people with that mentality here.

Don’t you just love blogs!? :)

Please do not miss this…..

Waleed Tabtaba’i, Taliban’s embassador here in Kuwait, is a thief. Yes, 7araaamy!

He claims integrity and wants to be the man who teaches all Kuwaitis how to raise their kids according to his morals and high religious standards is a lying thief!

Read this article in AlWatan dated January 9th 2005!

Then read this article published in Islamweb.net on December 8th 2004 and taken from majalat al majalla (which means it was published even before that date).

Do u see any similarities?!? Well, the main difference is the author’s name, other than that, he STOLE it!

Thanks to a fellow blogger who showed me this link from منتتدى الشبكة الليبرالية الكويتية…..It shows the exact phrases and ideas he stole. Exactly a month after it was published by Fahmi Huwaidi, he copies it and publishes it on a daily newspaper?! I really hope this gets mentioned nationwide, but the powers that be are there to cover for him unfortunately.
