March 2005

Im pissed off about the Kuwait Saudi game, and Im sick! I do not want to think politics, I want to change pace for now, back to something fun and informative….back to my collection of old Kuwaiti ads. It has grown ALOT since I first started about a month ago, I have many funny ones, and I promised that I will post some here, so here I go….

This time, I am posting an ad for Commercial Bank of Kuwait back in 1972.

We all reminisce about how good the 60s and 70s were and how we are moving backwards in this day of age. I don’t deny that at all, in many ways we have gone backwards, but look at this ad…..

I love this ad! It really is a sneak peek into society at that time!

Reminded me of an article I read recently in TIME magazine about the myth of women and math, how they have historically been looked at as inferior to men when it comes to maths and science. Also, Harvard University’s president, Laurance Summers, caused a huge controversy when he said the reason that there are less women scientists than men is down to difference between the sexes.

How politically correct is this ad? You be the judge, and I guess at least an ad like that will not be accepted at all.

According to AlMisba7, I am كافر, as well as many more of you….enjoy your one way ticket to hell, and have a nice day :)

التكفير إببيزة هالأيام

Thanks to boghazi for sending me this great article and pic!! Notice the mo’athina without covering her hair!

Did the men there turn into wild beasts and attack the women and rape them because they’re in the same room?? hmmmm….no!

Yesterday, my wife and I went to the new starbucks in the Behbehani complex near bait 7. Its a nice place, but thats not my point….we both noticed that everybody looked the same!! Its like there is cloning factory somewhere there that creates shabaaab and banaat!

Shabaab ingredients:

  • long hair, preferably pointing upwards
  • 70’s cop sunglasses
  • laaazim ako facial hair, “dirty look” ya3ny
  • tight t-shirt or polo shirt, preferably bright red or yellow
  • jeans of course
  • bright red or yellow shoes that match the tshirt

Girls ingredients:

  • long hair, and has to be wavy….or 3 7jaabs foog ba3ath with lots of glittery stuff
  • sunglasses that cover 70% of the face
  • a top that has a minimum of 4 dif colors, and has to go down all the way to cover the waist and reach the thighs.
  • jeans of course
  • high heels

I swear, it was hillarious!! Even the mothers who where there with their kids looked like that!

Oooh…oooh!! I forgot something else…..the look!! Whenever a group of guys or girls enter, they have to have “the look”!! The one that says Im very very serious, Im here on a mission! God forbid any of them came in smiling, their prestige will be destroyed!!

Anyway, it was a fun day! Try it, go check it out, and if you know where the cloning factory is, tell me….ill take pictures and post them!

Following Zaydoun’s question on Al-Baghdadi situation, I started thinking about this….Many of you may not agree with me, but hear me out, and just think about it…

Look at it this way:
There are two camps fighting a war…
Each side is in their dugout and shooting at the other side. All of a sudden, one person from the left dugout stands up and runs towards the other dugout…what will happen?? The right will starting aiming at him…..and the left will be trying their best to defent him and covering for him…at the same time, this will mean that they will shift their focus from the war to this person’s battle.
Lets say this person goes and then everyone covers for him and he comes back. Many people will be upset with his actions of doing that solo act, but defended him nontheless.
A few mins later, the same person, stands up again, and runs towards the other dugout again…
U cant expect the same amount of cover for that person.

There r bigger and more important battles to fight. Especially at this critical time! I honestly think that the reason there isnt much support for him is because we are in the middle of a huge battle for women’s rights, it really will be a bad move to shift our focus to an issue that is a lost cause anyway.

You cant attack the prophet and expect to have the support of every liberal in Kuwait at this exact moment! We are not Sweden, we have to take baby steps when it comes to freedom of speech before we can go sprinting! Al-Baghdadi seems to love sprinting from the start! Instead of attacking everything that has to do with Islam, criticize the manaahij rationally!

I agree with 99% of Dr. Baghdadi’s ideas, but there is a time for everything, and a way of expressing yourself. I personally am getting the feeling the Al-Baghdadi is enjoying the attention. The ‘troublemaker’ theme seems to pop in mind.

Again, I am not and never was against him, I am just saying that the timing is very wrong, and that his bluntness sometimes gets over the top. You lose alot more support than gain it at this critical time!!

If, like he said in yesterday’s article, he wants to cool things down, then I have more respect for him and I hope he has the bigger battle in mind when he says that!

Thats just what I think about this situation….

Coming soon:

honey with cures for Aids, cancer, the common cold, broken bones, headaches, bad hair days, aaaaaaaand…..death!

Absolute JOKE!

What is the first thing that comes to mind when you think of completing any kind of paperwork with the government??

Chaos? routine? need was6a? ختم? long lines? annoyance? employees who dont care?where’s the mandoob?

Thats what goes on anyone’s mind these days, and if you venture into the ministries complex, you wont be dissapointed! Its all that and more!

BUT!! Today I went to the Public Institute For Social Security (PIFSS), and it was like I traveled and was in a civilized country!!

First of all, the building is a nice looking building compared to anything else government owned. I got there, there was alot of decent parking space, and when I went in, the building was really nice from inside, and you are welcomed with a big sign that says no smoking! I like that! And surprisingly, noone was smoking! The place was really really organized, you go to the counter, take your number, and then the person sends you to one of many areas with booths of their own. My wait was about 10 mins, and when it was my turn, the employee was very nice and honestly tried to help me as much as possible! She actually did a few extra phone calls to speed up the process bcz I needed something urgently.

We were done in 10 mins, and she answered all my questions professionally and with a smile! When I was done, she said she’ll call someone to try to speed my papers up. I went to the next person, he asked for my name (got the phonecall already!), took my papers, and I was off in less than 30 mins altogether! I actually finished a mu3amala in the government in less than 30 mins!!! I didnt even think that was possible!!

If you even call them for any questions, they are friendly! It just seems like they were actually trained for customer relations (I know its highly doubtful, but thats what it seemed like)!

PIFSS and the people who work there are GREAT! I hope this friendliness and professionalism bug spreads to other government institutions!

I wonder, does the beautiful surroundings and the professional looking building and offices make workers more professional and less grumpy? Is it possible that the building had this much effect!?
