Al-Seyassah is a disgrace.
Some of you might have heard about the two kids who were struck by a high pressure electric wire. One of them passed away Alla yir7uma, the other is laying in the hospital in critical condition.
The news is bad enough, for family members and friends who found out that a loved one is dead is something that we all hope doesn’t happen to us.
Al-Seyassah newspaper crossed any lines of common decency, journalistic or even human. They had a picture of the dead boy, covering his face. They also had another picture, much worse, which was basically a small fire, with a caption saying that this is a picture of the boy’s body burning while electricuted!!!
No way am I going to post that from the newspaper.
Absolutely disgraceful by the newspaper, I hope they get sued by the families of the children.

The family should sue Ahmad al fahad first …as the minister of electrifuckity
and then sue Al-Syassah and Rai al-3am who published an awfuly detailed description of the accident.

Q, it’s not only assiyasa.. Alqabas and Alwatan published bloody, gruesome photographs during the recent terrorist skirmishes.
Has it come to this? photos of actual bodies on the front-pages of national newspapers? haven’t they any class or ethics?
(and please don’t anyone give me the ‘proof that wrong-doers are dead’ defense. Il-mayyit lah 7urma)

al rai al-3am moto is if it sell publish it
February 28th, 2005 at 10:11 pm
Bojaij, did AlRaiAlAam also put the same pictures??
Persus, I agree that publishing those pictures was wrong too, but i disagree that those terrorists had their 7urma even after their death. I personally wouldnt mind if their bodies were left to rot and then eaten by dogs. But in this case we are talking about two young teenagers who were struck by a freak incident and one of them died innocently, these bastards published the picture of a still burning body of a young kid!!?

Q, la t3awwir galby…
Journalism is dead.
March 1st, 2005 at 2:17 am
Q, what a coincidence ur bringing up that subject. ana im a first year journalism students and we are currently about the ethics of it. we talked about how some newspapers put pictures of dead bodies from the tsunami on the front pages. some of us debated that if they are gonna publish the pic they shudnt be at the front page, some of us said that the whole point of journalism is to show and inform the truth and some said that the main responsibilty of a journalist is towards the public and that THAT is why such pics shud not be published. for the family’s sake and for sensitive readers.
tell me Q, were these pics on the front page?

بعد قضية امنه و التغطيه اللى

snookie, no it wasnt, I think it was the back page or the one before that. But again the terrorists or the tsunami were events that effected the whole public, and the images were for the public, what makes this worse is that its a very private matter.

hey Q:)
its so typical of ahmed aljarallah, have u seen his interview with al3rbyah? he was arrogant and ignorant.
btw i miss ur restaurant reviews:)
March 1st, 2005 at 10:24 am
It’s amazing Jarallah can even talk with that dishdash collar way up to his chin
I went to the 3aza yesterday, and it was packed with teenagers; the deceased boy’s friends. It was so sad.. the other boy is in hospital, badly burned but I hear his heart is OK.. They just want to wait and see if the powerful electric shock might have caused any brain damage, and they plan to take him to France to a renowned burn-treatment clinic

It’s just awful, those pictures are pure pornography, to satisfy people’s lust for spectacle. There was no reason to show them. It didn’t serve a higher purpose, like showing victims of war can do. This is awful for the families and completely unethical on the part of the newspaper.
The other pictures which showed the cops and the ambulance were also misleading, since they did nothing for the boys..the ambulance didnt turn up after they tried calling the emergency services forever (as usual) and then a couple of young boys picked up the surviving victim and took him to hospital.

Q
I am shocked, you read alseyassah?
March 1st, 2005 at 10:56 am
kwtia, r u serious about their friends taking him to the hospital??
esetch, lol no dont worry I dont, but at work someone pointed it out! I only read AlQabas to be honest. Alseyassah is crap, AlAnba is a waste of paper and ink, AlWatan is purely government/islamists, and AlRaiAlAam is a tabloid.
March 1st, 2005 at 11:31 am
HAHAHA … well put
March 1st, 2005 at 1:31 pm
Q, they weren’t even friends, they were just two bystanders/young boys that took initiative since the ambulance coulnd’t be reached…because the boy was in pain and burned. (in a car accident people shouldn’t move people in case of spinal injury but in this case they did him a favour)
March 1st, 2005 at 2:51 pm
Have they even considered the age group of these kids?
As adults we have developed coping mechanisms for when seeing something as heart breaking as those uncalled for pictures.
But what about their friends?
The accident was hard enough.
Allah ikoon ib3oon ahalhom, and their loved ones.

Journalism should have some ethics and etiquettes, but it seems like nothing matters when the mind is set on the net profit, how sad.
