Do we have paths in our life that we have to find? or do we make our own paths?
When you are in highschool and decide to continue studies, whatever you pick will be your supposed path on paper….
When you graduate, and look for a job in your supposed field, you try it out for a while, then you actually know if you like it or not….
What makes you pick a certain path? Is it trying out different things and then one thing click? or do you force a path and make it happen?
hmmm…confusion confusion!!

LOL! but seriously purg, how did you get where you are? work, and country in your case! Was it something you aimed for and got or something that happened as part of a bigger plan or did you just end up going with the flow?
And if you decide to change careers, would you? would you take the risk of going for something you really want??

Q, my comment was serious, expect for the sheep part

Do not think of paths, things will come on their own. Relax

shosho, im trying my best to believe that! Its hard to convince urself to follow that road…
Purg, so you believe things come by their own? ya3ny paths slowly are built with time by going with the flow?

Q,
Taking risks every now and then might show you some hidden doors. No guarantee it will all turn out well though.

Speaking of paths, here’s a funny story I heard couple of days ago about Tawfiq AlHariri. When he was a young man he went to some Lebanese news paper asking for a job as an accountant, his request was rejected & the guy working there (maybe in the HR department) told him, they had no vacancy. So AlHariri went to KSA, he did very well & made lots & lots of money. What does he do next? He calls that newspaper guy who rejected his employment request & he gave him a job offer in his new company! The guy was surprised & asked him why would you wanna offer me a job & i’m the one who didn’t give you a job couple of years ago?!?! AlHariri simply told him, If it wasn’t for you, I wouldn’t have achieved what I have right now of all this wealth & money!!!
As for me… well I applied for the KPC when I graduated college & they’ve rejected me… so until now… i’m waiting for the wealth & money to come so i’d offer their chairman a7mad alfahad a job in one of my future companies….. Keep ur fingers crossed ya bo fahad

Q,
I think of it this way…when we are young our paths are laid out for us. Then you start creating your own destiny. Except some details are a given, and the majority of us do not exceed the perimeters of the norm. What I mean is that when you graduate, and come back to Kuwait, and start a family. these are all choices that you have made, yet they are obvious choices, you didn’t break through the perimeters, but it is definitely still the path that you have chosen for yourself, because you could otherwise been somewhere else, doing something else, but you followed the GIVEN path…(and this is what the majority of ppl all over the world follow-its a flow of normalcy)

shurouq, sa7 its no guarantees, but would I be better off trying them now or regretting it in 10 years that I didnt know what wouldve happened, and by then its too late to try it!
BoRashid, welcome back! wainik mikhtify since the terrorist acts? just kidding of course ;P its not the same without you here!
Boghazi, LOL! I think that was the best decision KPC ever did! Bu Fahad is waiting for you next to his phone and praying that your call is gonna be the next ;P
btw, that really is a good story! And thats what I meant with my question….if the story is true, then Hariri was at the right place at the right time, its like a big lottery, if u know what i mean.
February 20th, 2005 at 10:45 am
B, that normalcy and being part of the herd is what I meant with the last post before this.
I see what you mean in terms of chosing to come here, and chosing to start a family. Again, these are choices and most of us picked the paths that were given, or already paved for us!
But when it comes to work, to career, to really succeeding in your job without hating the thought of the office. Is it like Hariri’s story? Is it all just a big roulette table, and is a matter of being in the right place at the right time? I mean, almost all successful famous businessmen in the world achieved that by going on their own and creating something, its never the good employee who works 9 - 5 everyday without missing a day and does a good job…..its the risktaker who decided to take this huge chance! Lets say that out of 100 people who take this chance, 2 succeed, and by succeed I mean they really hit it big! Thats a failure rate of 98%, but when you hit it, you hit the jackpot….
….I guess it is a big roulette table, its like going for 00 instead of going for the red or black square.

Q,
I always wanted to be like my father, loved his way of talking, way of thinking, and way of working.
That’s why I am working in the investment field.
By loving it from loving my father.
God bless him.
February 20th, 2005 at 12:41 pm
nibaq, aaah the easy life ;P
TF, so you picked the path that you saw used by ur father. I wish you all the luck in the world, but you are not ur father. I wanted to follow in my father’s footsteps, but realized that the only person who shaped his path is himself, and it would be foolish of me to try to immitate that. I use that path to learn, but that was his path, and trust me, his path is reallly hard to follow!
February 20th, 2005 at 12:51 pm
Q,
I know all of that, and I knew it before following his path.
But I really loved it, could not go any where else.
I could do it, I am sure I could.

And me , who ever ask me what do you study ? , Straigh answer ” Acounting I HATE IT ”
but i believe that it’s a short path, it will end soon . and i’ll start a new one
February 20th, 2005 at 4:10 pm
Eva, u say u hate studying accounting, but u also believe its a short path and that you will change it easily…..how will you change it? will u graduate from accounting and work in marketing for example?
I guess my question is, how can u try all the chocolates in the box?
February 20th, 2005 at 4:59 pm
mm i donno

I was thinking this question a lot in the past couple of months.
How can we expect 18 year olds to choose a field that they think they’ll enjoy for the rest of their lives?
I don’t think having some work experience would do. Working temporarily as a highschool student certainly doesn’t give the right impression of joining the field officially!
I suppose it is pure luck. One has to try and try until the right place is reached.
I cannot survive without the reminder that I can always change my career.

“If I’m old and must have some regrets, I’d rather regret the things I havedone, than the things I haven’t”
Don’t know if that was any help

how about this, you finance me and I will be the spokesman for your rags to riches quest?
February 20th, 2005 at 11:13 pm
Eva, i didnt mean to scare you! Akeed you can do whatever you want after college, its the switching from one thing to another that is confusing me!
suvai, to me I picked to study what I thought would be the most interesting, not necessarily what i want to do. I think its more of learning from life and how to deal with things that makes u what u r in the end. To me the diploma was just a paper I needed to bring back home. To be totally honest, most of the information went through one side of my head, and left the other right after any exam!
GiGi, thats my favorite saying! I absolutely believe in it, but also need to wiegh any decision, its all or nothing at this point….’all’ sounds great, but ‘nothing’ has a much greater impact in our lives!
Purg, i finance you, ill be going from rags to even more rags!
