Welcome to another edition of Q’s Restaurant Review! So far, I have reviewed Gaucho Grill, Lenotre breakfast, Edu, and Zorba’s Greek Taverna. This time, I will go a different route, I will take the road less traveled by as Robert Frost would say. Actually its a route traveled frequently by many of Kuwait city dwellers. One of whom is bo_ghazi, who was kind enough to invite me for breakfast at one of his favorite breakfast spots there,
مطعم و مقهى السيد
This is a picture of the sign outside, to get a better idea of what to expect!
Waaait…..don’t leave! Please! This isn’t a joke….I REALLY am reviewing this place! Try to bare with me for a while! Anyway, when you get there, all of a sudden, مطعم كناري seems like a five star dining experience! But don’t be too harsh to judge it from its looks only.
I’m pretty sure none of you have been there before, and giving directions is a waste of time because its in small alley between two buildings near sa7at alsafat and soug almubarakiya.
When you go in, what you see is plastic chairs on some kind of bar table thingie on the wall which makes everywhere near the wall a seat. No other tables, and its bigger than you would first expect. Also, you dont get to see where they make the food, its covered in aluminium, which is for the best I’m sure. Its pretty plane, nothing fancy obviously, just white tiles everywhere and an old 7up fridge in one end.
All of that is fine, but the most distinctive thing about the whole place is the sink on the right as soon as you walk in! First of all, I like the position, and more importantly, I liked this sign on the mirror -
I love this sign!! This place scored alot of point because of this sign! You get the cool graphics and the funky fonts, but the best things about it are the surprise factor (noone would expect such a sign in such a place), and the beautiful message, which shows you that they are clean and care about noise pollution!
I regret not taking a picture of their menu, which is basically everything that has already been written on the main sign outside, فول ، حمص ، مسبحة ، قدسية. Sweet and simple, they’re specialists, so they stick to what they know!
We were in at 7:30 AM, bo_ghazi ordered 2 فول and 2 قدسية for us. The whole reason for the trip was for me to try the قدسية there. To get a detailed history of how and why this trip happened, read this.
First, the guy brought us each a plate with greens and onions and pickles and all that great stuff. Im sure the hygeine standard isnt 5 star hotel quality, but come on, thats part of the beauty of this place! You also get 2 big pieces of hot pita bread (libnaany)! The food came a couple of mins later, the foul was great! Have a piece of onion, then some pickles, and then smother a small piece of bread in the foul, and enjoy!! The qudsiya was also excellent! As for the drinks, you get a istakanat chay full of sugar, and a metal glass of water. The tea was wonderful!
The total came out to 2 KD I think for everything, which isnt bad at all!
Overall, I would definitely recommend this place! Its a hole-in-the-wall kind of place, and its delicious! You should go there with certain expectations, and you will get great foul and food of that kind. A word of caution, your stomach will be very active for 2 days after that meal, and I didnt eat anything else the whole day, it really fills u up!
If your a guy and looking for good old fashioned breakfast at the exact opposite end of the spectrum from LeNotre’s breakfast, then this is the palce for you!
Definitely recommended 83/100

Heeeey 83% not bad
You know.. the strange thing is some of the things you’ve mentioned I didn’t notice before (like the 7up fridge)!
& I just wanna stress on the last thing Q has mentioned which is “if you are a guy” so ladies.. believe me this is not a place you wanna have breakfast in so stick with le notre and other similar places.. or u can just send someone to get you that plate of fool & qudsiya

Cool stuff
I just wish you wrote the review 24 hours AFTER the meal has been fully digested and the Qudsiya has been liberated from your colon tract

looooooooooooool the sign! la la la hilarious!
Ok guyz on that note, I really love these kind of places because beleive it or not ana “ib6eenia” and food comes first.
Dubai-Behind ghrair mall-a rest called Bo6afish-the tastiest seafood i have ever had. This place is clean except its a neon signed place that you would otherwise not even look at twice.
for atmosphere and okay seafood was pier chic (beautiful new place in qasir hotel that I forgot about as soon as I had a bite of shrimp at bo6afish). just a recomendation.
Great subject Q. If my blog gets exposure im taking you out for fool

Purg, thats another story.. tell you about it later ;P
Shurouq, I think i’ve heard about that place. If you’re into these places, try ma63am al-amani (currently lo’olo’at alsham). they have nice sandwiches & their burgers are so tasty

Q .. Nice review! Different kind of Kuwait.. Kuwaitism thats what u stand for..
This is one thing I really miss :(, breakfast in Kuwait..
Another place u can review Q is a place called Alf laila, which is open from 4 AM to 11 PM with the same menu.. It is located Right by Swan, and is nothing like swan. The best thing about it is that it opens early and has a Baqala right next to it where u can get the newspapers. This place has three kinds of people: policemen, people like me, hungry drunkards, and the occasional 3itwi staring from outside..unfortunately, they dont have the sign on by the sink, so expect the worse. Its cheap, tasty, and no one gives a damn.. my kind of place.. ya and when u go there sallim 3ala ghassan.. weld 7alal

Q:
Q1: what is Qudsiya?
Q2: what type of a bomb does the sign convey? Is it the natural bomb that is released by the guests after a plateful of fool? And does that mean polluting the air with the natural bomb is ok as long as it does not have any sound?

I’ve always thought that because there were about 23940252 million of these little hole-in-the-wall restaurants here in Kuwait, nobody could tell the difference between one or the other. That was the case until I heard about Bader Al-Bedoor.
Holy falafel, Batman. I was so curious because I heard SO many of my guy friends mention the place that I actually staked it out and had myself a look. It’s definitely not the place for a lady to be, but I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw the line of people and cars parked out front of this little hut.
I was so fascinated, I had one of my reporters at the paper do a restaurant review on it (which we do weekly, every Thursday. Q? You readin’? Huh?)
He gave it four stars.
The pictures gave me heartburn.

bo_ghazi, what do you expect
am not a 20 year old
February 11th, 2005 at 12:42 pm
This is the first chance Ive gotten to see the comments since posting! Its been hectic!
Anyway, Boghazi, yep, believe it or not the place got an 83%, o fully deserved! lets see next week how low can u go with the next place? ;P
BoJaij, its been more than 5 days now, and the effects are still felt by my stomach! I think i will be needing therapy!
Purg, I basically went from high hopes to no expectations for the next place! He said that the next place will make this place look really good!
And alla isam7ik?? Ana scary?? I will assume u meant to ask me if Boghazi scared me, and the answer is yes, just a bit!
Shurouq, for some reason i think
‘mana’eesh’ is too fancy for the kind of breakfasts Bohgazi has in mind for me! lol!
B….NO FOUL!! MAKI!! Take me to maki!!
forza, using ur theory on Boghazi’s experience in this field, I believe he is immune to nuclear attacks even!
مبتدئ, whenever u come to back to Kuwait, we’ll go! Im always up for food experiences! I dont remember seeing that place near swan though….hmmm! Ill look harder next time, and will consider it for a try!
Rabab, Qudsiya is explained in the link in the post itself when earlier discussed with Boghazi, and to be honest I still dont know what it is! The bombs r an ongoing issue, when we were there, nothing was heard, but maybe silent nukes were released ;P
NYchick, who cares about work people?? I actually work with 2 people only and they’r not close, but even if i was dealing with top clients, it was worth it!
SheWrites, every thursday u say? hmmm! I still need to send u the thing, didnt have time to look for it to be honest! Expect it this week!
Finally, I have to say that Boghazi, u have proven that u r the encylopedia of arabic fast food places in Kuwait!
