Al-Seyassah is a disgrace.

Some of you might have heard about the two kids who were struck by a high pressure electric wire. One of them passed away Alla yir7uma, the other is laying in the hospital in critical condition.

The news is bad enough, for family members and friends who found out that a loved one is dead is something that we all hope doesn’t happen to us.

Al-Seyassah newspaper crossed any lines of common decency, journalistic or even human. They had a picture of the dead boy, covering his face. They also had another picture, much worse, which was basically a small fire, with a caption saying that this is a picture of the boy’s body burning while electricuted!!!

No way am I going to post that from the newspaper.

Absolutely disgraceful by the newspaper, I hope they get sued by the families of the children.

For the millionth time this past year, the stock market goes up ridiculously high, and yours trully end up with NADA!

The market went up around 3000 points in the past few months, and I lost money!! Today its up 108 points, and it seems like every stock and its mother went up, except mine!

Im getting desperate, I need a good stock tip, and if you mention PWC expect your face to meet my shoe!

SOOOO FRUSTRATING!! @#$@&#(!@*&%^#$&@#!()*)!@(#$&

What a gorgeous day it is today! My wife and I had planned to go to Marina crescent to enjoy the weather, but while on our way there on the 4th ring road, the traffic made us change our minds. The traffic jam started before the Hawalli Jabriya bridge, so we took the next exit instead, and decided to go to Casper & Gambini for lunch.

We went there, parked, and just as we were walking towards it, we looked at the La Piazza area, and I saw someone waving at us….just our luck, it was my brother and sister with my cousin and her dad. The place looked nice and seemed busy, so we decided to join them, we had a really good meal, in a great outdoor setting, accompanied by very poor service. Their food was surprisingly good, especially the pizzas and the spinach ricotta stuffed thing (not sure what kind of pasta).

Following the meal, we decided to walk towards the new starbucks in that area. That starbucks is by far the best coffee shop. Its beautiful inside, and there’s a nice outdoor terrace on the second floor, along with the outdoor seating area downstairs. They also have something that is very unique and very much needed in coffee shops in Kuwait, and that is small private study rooms! They have three of those I think, each with their own private rooms with a meeting room style table seating 6 people, best place for meetings or studying in my opinion. Anyway we had our coffee and our cheesecake outside enjoying the great weather, while many people decided to stay inside, which made no sense at all!

Today’s weather was the best weather we’ve had this year, and it made for a great outing, really enjoyable and our decision to go to that area turned out to be much better than Marina. All in all, I am happy :)
Have a wonderful day everyone, enjoy ur last hours of the long weekend!

For the special occasion of Kuwait’s National Day, my post today is my version of the Kuwaiti bill of rights. The Bill of Rights is the first 10 amendments of the United States Constitution, but the Kuwaiti version will be the first 15 articles in the Kuwaiti Constitution -

I hope we read them again and understand them…..enjoy, and more importantly, and be proud to be Kuwaiti, and remember the great minds who brought this constitution to us and made us leaders in the region for more than 2 decades…..we can only hope that someday someone will continue in their footsteps and put Kuwait above all personal gains….

With National Day coming up, I have decided to ride the patriotic wave, and ask something related to the occassion….

Favorite national song?

  • وطن النهار
  • عاشت لنا الكويت
  • كويت و العرب
  • عيدي يا كويت
  • وطني حبيبي
  • كلما زادت المحن
  • يا دارنا
  • آن الأوان
  • حبيب الوطن

I’m sure there are many more that I can’t remember…

This is a question/request for everybody, its been something ive been thinking about for a while, and thanks to Zaydoun’s latest post, I realized that many people are interested in the subject of Kuwaiti ads, or at least ads that have been shown in Kuwait in the past.

I know some of u work in advertising or marketing, but this also extends to anyone else who has an interest in Kuwaiti ads…

Is there a way to create an archive of all Kuwaiti old classic ads? Video and print? Where can find them? Even some of the recent ads would be great, like the new Global Investment ad on Gulf Road with the big 100 fils under it, showing how much dividend they’r distributing (i loved this ad), there’s also a creative Nissan ad next to the Nissan dealer on 4th ring road….but anyway, is there any way other than going around taking pictures and scanning magazines?

Ads that have been mentioned -

  • Samsung’s “Jassoom, aih da ya Jassoom”
  • Pizza Italia’s running man
  • NBK’s hala hala zeina
  • Like Cola’s footballer
  • Crush’s swimmer
  • Shay Al Wazza’s sa3eedy
  • Abanderado’s weird pedophile ad
  • Sharp’s hala hala
  • NEC’s sheesha smoking guy
  • Tide’s birthday mom
  • Tang’s “yil3abo yil3abo”
  • Nido’s generation growing

Ads are part of pop culture, and in some ways, they represent the history of an era in Kuwait. If anyone does in fact have any of these ads, or links to them, or good scanned ads (new or old), please send them to kuwaitism@gmail.com to compile a decent archive eventually.

Any thoughts on this idea?

Someone called me earlier this morning and told me to check out this pic from AlWatan, I did, and I smiled, and now I have posted….

How wonderful is it to see the other side of Kuwaiti women’s personalities and capabilities? We have very capable women in this country, lil asaf most of what we see around us are either kids acting like kids, mothers looking and acting like kids, ’society’ ladies who love their pictures in the media, or ditzy makeup filled women who are desperate to get married on tv dramas.

These are the real soldiers, the women who work hard everyday building the country in fields like teaching, medicine, finance, and now ministry of interior, and many more fields. I would love if this kind of image replaces the stereotype of Kuwaiti women.

Anyway, the point is, ya36eehum alf 3afya o hope to see more!

The guy is giving his strategic views on tourism in the country….but for some reason I sense a subliminal message there! hmmmm?!

P.S.- Thx to bughazi for pointing out this article from today’s AlQabas.

Say “Itfoooooooooooo” 3ala illy fakkar ib hal da3aaya!

Do we have paths in our life that we have to find? or do we make our own paths?

When you are in highschool and decide to continue studies, whatever you pick will be your supposed path on paper….

When you graduate, and look for a job in your supposed field, you try it out for a while, then you actually know if you like it or not….

What makes you pick a certain path? Is it trying out different things and then one thing click? or do you force a path and make it happen?

hmmm…confusion confusion!!
