Today, the weather was absolutely gorgeous, it was not a day to stay home at all! I called my wife and told her that we need to go out somewhere! I picked her up and we headed towards the city, and I decided that it would be a great day to check out a place that I have passed numerous times but never took the time to actually enter! I am talking about ‘7adeeqat AlShaheed’ (حديقة الشهيد), which everyone passes while on 1st ring road. Its the one across from Dasma, with the entrance from Soor Street, across AlMulla building.
Anyway, I was expecting it to be crowded with lots of families and people who took the day off for Christmas…..the place was nearly deserted! It really is a shame that such a place is not being enjoyed by anyone! There were a couple of men exercising walking around, and a small group of young boys playing football. The place was very well taken care of surprisingly, and it is worth visiting!
Except……..it was named 7adeeqat alshaheed in honor of our martyrs who gave their lives to this land, which is a very nice gesture. It also has a monument dedicated to the martyrs. Unfortunately, this is what the monument looks like at the moment…..
There is nothing to say on this subject! It is disgraceful to say the least! NONE of the names are clear, its just a big peice of stone with shi3aar lajnat alshuhada!
Other than this, everyone should go visit 7adeeqat alshaheed! I feel like an idiot for not visiting that place earlier, and we made a promise to come more often, and will bring our friends along for some nice gatherings.
It was a very pleasant walk on a beautiful day, and I discovered a new place, and I am happy.

so you rediecovered the Central Park of kuwait city
i remember there’s a cool spot there; at one of the corners of the park there’s an underground passage that takes you somewhere. the place was scenic, surprisingly with no junkie traces!

You know, I have never entered the park in our area! Although it is one of the best and people come from other areas to spend time in it …
I feel that it is a boring place? what can we do other than walking or sitting on the grass and eating!

if they add some BBQ grills in the park maybe more people would go or have a man made lake with some ducks…old people love feeding ducks for some reason! I mean they should make it more interesting to go

shady, well, not EVERYONE! This blog isnt exactly the New York Times, only a few select ppl get to read this anyway….also, the place needs some ppl, it feels a bit sad when its empty!
D&G…..well, maybe, if I can actually take a decent pic with a decent cam of the monument and send it to a newspaper?
UzF, that spot was excellent! At first u think twice about entering the tunnel, since it really does look like junkie haven….but once i got there, the first thing that popped into my mind was that this place could and should be used for some kind of performance or open air concert!
Ra-1, what can u do anywhere else in Kuwait? Try it out and see how pleasant it is….its definitely a great change from malls and restaurants!

There are many parks in Kuwait but Kuwaitis rarely find pleasure in discovering them. In the past few winters, I have enjoyed ‘discovering’ new parks in different areas- some are nestled away in an area and like you found with your park, it is a joy to discover a nice place to take a walk. What I have also discovered is that local parks are heavily used by the expatriate community- to the extent that once in Qortoba I felt very self-conscious amongst all the families barbquing and playing ball.

Juwaira…..ur so right! Kuwaitis really need to enjoy the simple things in life that we have here such as parks and beaches and so on….
The one in Qurtoba seems to be the only one I notice that looks almost always busy! Especially the basketball court area!

I just came back from visiting 7adeegat sh6y2 shwaikh, I know everyone knows about it but it’s all yours at noon. No one is there, maybe some “g6awa” bas.
The first night I arrived I told my sis I want to go to alahmidi, she immediately replied: “YES, sure we can have a picnic”. She remembered that I used to take them there few years ago. it is worth it, they have a really nice well taken care off park and a small “Zoo” too, though it is a long ride.

UzF, ur talking about Alsafat square. thats near mubarakiya and on the other end of Kwuait city (not that the city is big). so my trip to india gets cancelled because of the tsunami and quake and I decided to check out whats happening in Alqurain festival thing. I went to the national museum (they have a section on ruins of Kuwait) Kinda interesting though. It sucks that that thaqafa funoon adab thing is a piece of ($hit) ma3a i7tiramy 6ab3an!! Significant amount of Failaka ruins, Sabbiya, and akaz island (the latter being the free zone now unfortunately). They should take back all failaka ruins to failaka and house them in amuseum that looks like a greek temple (thats what I told the guy working there, his comment: “ilwaqe3 shay wilsij shay thany” hahahaha hathy likuwait sal 3ala ilnibi.

I totally agree with Jewaira. The expats are taking full advantage of Kuwait and it’s beaches, parks, and all. Whereas the Kuwaitys prefer squishing together in already jampacked malls.

NYchick, shwaikh beach front is really beautiful! Thats what I had in mind if the 7adeeqat alshaheed didnt work out, but thankfully it did! Ive never been to Ahmadi for a picnic or anything…sounds like another trip coming up when the weather is nice on a weelend
Q8Sheikh, no no not alsafat square, there actually is another sort of plaza thing at an extention area of 7adeeqat alshaheed! If you go right all the way, you will find a small pathway taking u to a tunnel, on the other side of the tunner, ull find a beautiful small area, with one of the bawabaat from the soor above u on ur right! check it out! and till when is this failaka ruins thing open? Is it in the national museum itself? near the old Kuwait thing?
D&G, u know whats sad? even when we travel, we still find q8ies who only go to movies, malls, and restaurants! whyyyyyyyy???

Isn’t this Beijing Duck? I love it too, but it’s too fatty. Did u know that most restaurants in the U.S. cook with duck and goose fat? Interesting ha
U should try visiting Al-Ahmadi park, I don’t know how it looks right now, but it used to be a lovely place few years ago. I may check it out for u soon, how about that?

NYchick, yup…Beijing or Peking duck, i love that stuff! And supposedly duck is the fattiest of the meats, not sure how accurate that is though!
Plz do go to Al-Ahmadi park, take lots of pics too, and post them tell us how it is!

Q: The ruins of failaka, sabbiya, and akkaz, are housed in the national museum now (its there permanently) its above the cultrual museum. once you pass the boat, there is a small hall with a map (on the right there’s a door and another hall that takes u to a ramp. climb up and there you find it.

LOL purg, I wasnt sure if this was the place discussed, bcz this is right on the road in a way! I thought it was in the beginning but then had my doubts!
