Excellent discussion was generated from the previous post regarding superstar. We had two different point of views, and generally it was a respectful argument, which is always the best result you can have, it opens minds and makes people think more.
Anyway, this post is more about my beliefs, so people can understand my point of view about things better. To the people who did not agree with me (who I have the utmost respect for their civilized discussioms), I think we have to agree to disagree! U obviously have strong beliefs in one side, and I have strong beliefs on the other side. U might be a religious person, and I am obviously not. I respect that, and I respect the fact that you actually continue in a discussion regarding religion, unlike most other religious people I know, who believe they are right, and the billions who are not muslims around the world are not and will go to hell and there is no point in listening! I believe in the right to practice any belief u have, whether it was Islam, Buddhism, Judaism, or even if u pray for cats, as long as you make it a connection between you and ur god only! Trying to convince people that ur way is the right way is perfectly normal, its actually healthy for a society, but forcing people is not, which unfortunately many people do these days! By forcing I dont just mean by power, I also mean by brainwashing with poticized ideologies, by altering interpretations for their own benefit on the back of religion, and by abusing the rights of others to believe what they want!
In a nutshell, to me, Kuwait comes before everything else, including religion! To many people, that is the case, but recently, most people seem to put religion before everything else, which is, again, their right to chose to do so! I am against forcing their opinion, and I dont force mine, I just state what I believe in, hoping that this may change the way some people look at things.
When the country is put before everything else, people will concentrate on things like science, technology, and the advancement of your country and society. When a whole country puts religion before something else, people are busy with trying to go to heaven 3ala 7saab the country! you get issues such as is makeup 7aram or 7alal, is libs niqaab biljam3a right or wrong, does star academy coming to kuwait mean the end of all morals, and so on….! Trivial issues such as these become our main obstacle, and it goes all the way from kids talking about it in school to the parliaments questioning it and making full use of their time as sul6a tashree3iya!! Our whole system is lagging, and it is the same with every other country in the world that makes religion a priority above everything!
Give me one positive contribution an Islamic country has given to the world in the past 50 years! And please remember I am not talking about Islam because its a religion and saying that it is the reason, Im saying the way people use it is the reason! Islam, and all religions are beautiful spiritual belief systems that organize civilizations, they set the basic rules of life in a sense! But the blindness of many people in the world to everything else is whats killing us! Going back to my question, give me one positive contribution in the past 50 years…..NOTHING! Personally, I would say Um Kalthoum, but even that is 7aram.
Other nations are zooming past us, and stepping over us currently as a result! As you are reading this, look around you, what hasnt been made in the US, Europe, or Asia?? These countries have put a plan in front of them, and focused on the advancement of their country and their people ahead of everything else, while at the same time, respecting each person’s right to believe in what they want without any problems!
Kuwait was by far the leader of the region in every sense back in the 60 and 70, and maybe early 80’s, and we always had respected religious figures who were there t help, we even had Kuwaitis who were Jewish living among us, and we still have Kuwaiti Christians living among us now. But everyone shared one goal, to make Kuwait a better place. Since the Islamic revolution in Iran, and the trickle down effect, and then after the invasion, with the increased Islamists political gains, our country has absolutely stalled! Our focus has shifted away from Kuwait.
To end this post, let me just state the following: I once asked a very highly educated person who belongs to Alikhwan movement, “would you fight against Kuwait if Jihad was called against the country by religious figures?” the answer was a confident, “Of course!” What can be said after this?

Q,
When Muslims were real Muslims there was a country called the world of Islam that had many states each had there own culture and even there own religion worked so hard to build it in all sectors; they were very successful in all of it they had aboard of “Ifta`a” which makes no commoners make there own “fatwa” … but some day some of them thought selfish and made some choices for there own good.
This made this world be as it is right now.

TF, ur right, this brings us back to my point in the earlier post about the fatwas being given by anyone and everyone, which was the decline of the Islamic empire at the time, and is ruining us more at the time. And the reason these people r giving fatwas is bcz they are listened to by a civilization obsessed with religion above and beyond anything else!

Q,
I do believe that religion is above and beyond every thing.
Do you know why?
Because Islam’s main letter is that the human being was created as a “khalifa” of this earth to build and find out about every thing it is not a religion that aims on the soul and the out look it aims on how to build a human being different than other creatures; and to build solid beloved communities; and build the world to be a better place to live in peace. If you do these things you are a person that loves his/her country.
As I commented in one of my own posts; it’s a religion of all and for all.

religious ppl who force their views down our throats r teh suck !!!1!!1!
December 14th, 2004 at 11:08 am
Almost every war throughout history was fought over territory and/or…. you guessed it… RELIGION. Why? Because everybody thinks their religion is better than the others.
December 14th, 2004 at 11:08 am
TF, all religions are there to make the world a better place! Almost all religions are identical in their message of becoming better and improving the world, Im not arguing that. Islam, like I said is a wonderful religion, but the obsession of people with the tiny insignificant details of everything and what religion thinks about everything is what I mean when I say its ruining our country and our progress! People stop using their brains, they are sheep who need a ready answer for everything without trying to think, and unfortunately, many Islamists have taken to the role of become the shepherds and teachers to everyone in society!

this topic has been beaten to death; unless we manage to seperate religion from law, even if only in theory, we will continue to have this problem. I should be a ruler as i’d kick so much ass..

Q,
I have a Christian friend from U.S.A who respects my religion and I respect hers and I always tell her that my religion is the best and she always tells me her religion is the best; but we are still friends and we will always be that what I learned from Islam.
But I would not accept it if she said that Islam is not a good religion.
Another point; I was living in better Islamic community when I was in England than here in Kuwait. British Muslims are more better then those in Arab countries, which makes the problem is Arabs not Muslims.
December 14th, 2004 at 11:27 am
I agree with asshat on both counts! Seperation of religion from state definitely, and him becoming ruler of all things because he would kick ass!

you are all getting it wrong from the beginning . Fatwa is nothing but expression of thought , it goes under freedom of speech , any body can and sld be capable of issuing a Fatwa .. nothing wrong with that actually issuing fatwa is a Job of any Muslim clerks to his followers it is a job we all sld respect THAT WHEN IT CONCERN HIS FOLLOWERS ONLY . he can tell them how to fast and pray , he can lie on that or provide wrong info .. it is between him and the believers I personally care not , whether he graduate from Harvard or MIYASS ( miyass south of Kuwait where the dogs used to live in old Kuwait) it is his business . But when concerning or dealing with the others ,Fatwa sld mind the law and fatwa should not issued publicly without a license when it concern or deal with other people than Muslim . When a Mullah says that drinking is Haram that is his opinion and his job too .But when he say ,band alcohol , kill this one THAT IS A PUBLIC matter it sld go with the State Law not his or his followers believe

Q,
thanks for the endoresement.. ur generous and enlightened comments have catapulted u to the nether regions of the blogosphere, where u shall preside over all bloggers and rule with a firm yet reasonable 7ukum. In addition to ur classic good looks and charming personality is a freedom fighter looking to get out! much applause to u

TF, saying Arabs are the problem is not totally accurate! What about the Muslim guy in Holland who killed a director bcz he didnt agree with his movie?? What about all the Muslims living in Pakistan, Afghanistan, India, Iran, among other countries, none of those are Arabs, but they’ve been burning churches, bombing Hindu temples, blowing up Buddhist statues that were there for thousands of years, and none of the countries mentioned have gone forward in the past 50 years! Its not what religion u believe in, or what origins r u from, its how people view any religion to an extreme, and unfortunately, in Islam we have more of those people than other religions!
December 14th, 2004 at 11:58 am
That Holland guy was from Marrocco.
Pakistan, Afghanistan and India are just like Arabs even those who are living in England. Iran is another situation, since there revolution they are acting real weird against foreign countries; they have something in there mind which is really dangerous.
And not every Muslim criminal gets his acts from Islamic rules.
December 14th, 2004 at 12:19 pm
Hey TF,
1) “Iran is another situation..blah blah.. they have something in there mind which is really dangerous.”
yes than god our terrorists arent dangrous! they just fly into buildings and childsplay like that
2)”And not every Muslim criminal gets his acts from Islamic rules.”
off course not! little is known that they actually get their ideas from a little-known ancient icelandic ritual! shh dont let out the secret

True Faith,
I don’t mean to sound harsh, but I can’t swallow all the dreamy talk about the golden era of Islam and how it’s a “religion of all and for all”… Sorry!
If people here are so hung on their glorious past, I suggest they start reading history again.
I don’t think religion is necessarily a bad thing.. It’s just overrated.
Q,
Isn’t patriotism religion in disguise?
(Having said that, let us all pray for our muntakhab.
I love Bahrain.. luv the people.. luv the accent.. luv the mattay.. luv Qassim Haddad.. luv Khalid al Sheikh.. luv the palms.. had a crush on a Bahraini once.. but pleas, please god let us win this game)
See..I do pray. Who said I’m not religious.

I think before making any comments regarding the post per sue; I need to point out somepoints bro/Q listed.
He said ((who believe they are right, and the billions who are not muslims around the world are not and will go to hell and there is no point in listening!))
Defiantly I “choose” to disagree with him. truth stands by itself not how many people support it. Mohammed, he was one MAN, held the absolute truth. many examples do exist where the majority standds against the truth and the minority with it. my point is: consider the idea not what surrounds it.
Q: ((I believe in the right to practice any belief u have, whether it was Islam, Buddhism, Judaism, or even if u pray for cats, as long as you make it a connection between you and ur god only! Trying to convince people that ur way is the right way is perfectly normal, its actually healthy for a society, but forcing people is not))
ISLAM is unique:) .. you cannot put in that personal level only. part of my duties as a muslim to ask people for goods and to avoid sins. ultimately, its their choice. but i am to spread the isalmic values as much as i can and you can assume that if i am MP i will go for the islamic choice!
a true muslim would be sincere in his work and tries his best. actually being true muslim dictates a particular lifestyle; from simplest things to most complicates ones. if you choose to be a true muslim you need to respect traffic lights and speed limits not only attending gama3a prayer to to leave your beard unshaved. apparently most muslims, both religious and non-religious, do not understand the essence of islam.
December 14th, 2004 at 5:44 pm
although this is beating a dead horse, here it goes:
TF: the golden era of islam didnt have internet, electricity, etc etc., where a man was married to 4 women and had a herd of children and slaves. those teachers who tought us that islam was never founded by the sword were bearded and lying through their teeth. history is never written by the loser of a battle because the losers never survive.
Pre-gulf war kuwait used to have booze and night clubs and people were open minded, now everyone (with exceptions obviously) is too narrow minded to see past the tip of their nose.
also, to touch back on the whole bearded issue: do you know how disgusting that thing is, i mean just look at it, its like a cow’s ass hair glue onto a face.and the food that gets stuck in there, and LICE, yes lice what if oyu get lice in your beard!? not to mention the long beard usually goes with a short dishdasha with ugly ankles and disgusting nails…ewwwwwww!!!!
separation of church and state is a must (no one be a wise-ass and tell me its not church-i know its islam but the original phrase was coined “church and state”)
the bottom line is that the glass is broken and now its our responsability to pick up the pieces
December 15th, 2004 at 9:40 am
Mishu,
you wrote:”history is never written by the loser of a battle because the losers never survive.”
Most of our history is written in the Qura`an, our holy book which is the words of Allah.

Q,
Please don’t take this personally, or as a slant against people from your region of our world, but I almost fell out of my chair when I read your “My Beliefs” post. Not because your ideas are so radical, or insulting, or evil, but because what you said is so very…..sane. Everything you said is rational, progressive, and well thought out. I mean not even one insert about American Imperialism, or the Zionist Conspiracy. I say this half in jest because in my country the media can’t depict people of your region the way I described your post. Why is a long, complicated explanation which I would be more than happy to debate with you some other time, but the point of my comment is really just to praise you. Critics like to say the first Persian Gulf war was to secure our oil interests in the Middle East. While that may hold some truth when referring to our government and those in charge of preserving the best interests of our nation (citizens of any nation should hope that much to be true of their gov’t, no matter how evil some try to make it out to be), that would hardly be enough to sway the hearts of the American people towards war. Especially since Vietnam. No it was, as simple as it may sound, the fate of the people of Kuwait that brought us to war. So that people like you can write things like “My Beliefs”, and make social and economic progress. As an 11-year-old I cried when I saw Saddam pump bullets into a lifeless Kuwaiti body suspended from a crane. He was smiling, engaging in sport. For me and the majority of Americans it wasn’t oil that brought us to your aid, as is the truth today of Iraq, it was blood. The blood of good and decent human brothers being spilt by a human animaal. Keep posting, and I will keep reading, and one day people like you will be heard, seen, and read all across American and the world.
December 18th, 2004 at 2:22 am
Hey USA nationalist,
Welcome and im glad u liked what u read. It really made me laugh when I read American Imperialism and Zionist Conspiracy, because this seems to be the explenation for all our own wrong doing in the world! Even if the weather gets too cold, im sure someone somewhere would pop up exclaiming its a Zionist conspiracy! That really struck a chord when I read it! Im not saying the US r angels or a bunch of mother teresas, but we really need to take a good look at ourselves, what we have accomplished in the past few decades, what we have become, and where do we see oursleves in the future….without always putting the words American imperialism or Zionist conspiracy in every sentence! Anyway, the beliefs I have outlined on my post are shared by many people in the region, but we have been outnumbered by the Islamists who are gaining more and more power within society every day. I have been quiet for too long, and many of us have been quiet, with the liberal politicians realizing that they are facing something much bigger than they can manage. I am sick of that, I love my country, I love my country more than anything, and I am willing to fight for it and for my beliefs, and by fight, by no means am I referring to grabbing an AK47 and running in the street, but I mean in terms of speaking out on things I believe in, and having a stand, no matter how small or insignificant it might be, against the wave of darkness engulfing my country!
December 18th, 2004 at 6:03 am
Q: i have long held the belief that a citizne that trully loves their country is the person who can face the reality of the situation, and strive for their country and its improvement. i know this sounds weird but its hard to put it into words. congrats, i salute you
December 18th, 2004 at 1:35 pm
Thx mishu! Like I said earlier, I know that alot of people feel the same way I do, and I know you do! The problem is getting our voices heard in some way, walla its a sad time we live in, but nothing can change it except us!
