So I finally checked out the book fair. To be honest I wasn’t impressed at all. It might not be fair to give a true judgement since I spent less than an hour there, but ill just point out a few quick comments -
- Around 40% of all bookstores were Islamic (wild guesstimate)
- Around 80% of attendees were religious looking people (another wild guesstimate)
- All Islamic bookstores were PACKED!
- Children’s books selection was excellent, Arabic and English
- Waaaaaay too many ’self help’ books!

cannot see what these comments lead to…
if i dont shave for a day or two i would be one of the “religious looking people”….
still cannot figure out whyy people from particular background keep yit7al6amoon about this fair yr after another…

Bo rashed, maybe its because we see more & more books that talk nothing but $hit (i.e.):
تفسير الاحلام في عالم الاوهام
كيف تسعدين زوجك في 20 دقيقة
كنت ضحية اغتصاب للجن الازرق
& on the other hand there are more books which are being censored & forbidden because of two main reasons:
1.Some idiot at the censorship committee thought that this novel or this book will turn me to an atheist!!!
2.That same idiot is a bit smart & he might’ve read that book/novel & he thought that it’ll make me… ummmm….. how do I put it…THINK!!!

Very well said boghazi!

Q, off topic, in all the other blogs, when you click on the “comments” link located below the original post, it takes you to the comments section & straight to the first comment, skipping the original post located above all these comments. But why in ur blogs that’s not the case? When you click on the “comments” link it takes you to the same page I’m talking about but it would be at the top, so I’d have to scroll all the way down to the comments area & this is a very exhausting process when we’re talking about a long posts (& ur famous with such posts :p). Now I’m not a lazy person but unlike other fellow bolggers, I do care about my fingers & I wish them relaxation & happiness :p so please be kind & fix the settings of ur blog

boghazi….
1) Ur lazy!
2) Get a mouse with a scroll thingie on top, its helpful!
3) For some reason I cant even get the number of comments on the comment page like other blogs!
4) U bring laziness to a whole new level!

Q, I’m sorry to see you vulnerable toward the various challenges bloggers face on their daily “Blogsphere” life, and therefore I’m offering you my assistance in fixing things up & turning ur blog to a respected one… now all you have to do is give me the blog’s password and everything will be just fine

November 28th, 2004 at 1:09 pm
Self-Help books are all the rage everywhere. If you’ve got a problem, chances are there’s a book that addresses it.
Even if your problem is that you don’t have time to read self-help books, there’ll be a book just for you
November 28th, 2004 at 1:10 pm
Don, so I guess ba3ad long live al7lkooma the major shareholder of KIC
November 28th, 2004 at 2:35 pm
Don, long live everyone in KIC too, top to bottom, and everyone in between who went there for a week ;P
November 28th, 2004 at 3:21 pm
Guys with such posts you might as well put your names instead of your nicknames :p
November 28th, 2004 at 3:41 pm
boghazi, if KIC was a baqala run by 2 ppl, u would be right ;P
November 28th, 2004 at 4:08 pm
bogazi, Q, i assume u dont like the fair coz the books there dont satisfy ur needs? .. but yr and yr bookstores pay money to participate so i assume again that they get some good money … so basic “supply and demand” shows that ppl like and buy whats on! ..
also apparently the censored books during the fair arent the same censored ones by wazarit ale3lam coz 2-3 yrs ago i asked abt moden almel7 and alqortas salesman said we have it in the store but cannot sell it here. so any serious reader almost all the time can find what he is looking 4 here in kuwait so why hal noise yr after yr …
bogazi, does the title “how 2 please ur man in 20 min” really exist? i would be interested in taking a quick look into that!
Q. what KIC stands for? Kuwait International Courtroom?!
[i thought of Company instead of Courtroom but couldnt image anyone call his business that!]

Bo rashed, I am aware of what ur saying, yet why should we allow others to control what we want to read. When I was young (im not old but this happened when I was young!!) I thought (I do that sometimes :P), why would they (the extremists) forbid a book which disagree or talks about certain aspects in Islam, & the next thing you know a guy shows up yelling, that what was in that book is bull-$hit and we have all the replies & evidence to prove that its wrong & & & &…..etc.!!!
Ok then why don’t you allow that book for everyone to read & go ahead write a book as a response to all that bull-$hit your complaining about! Islam is a religion that has been around for more than 1400 years, so if that man thinks that some book will distract the muslims or that it might turn them to atheists, then that man clearly has some faith problems!!
That is what I think of course & I think its called freedom of speech.
As for KIC, it stands for Kuwait Investment Company
Q, No…. not necessarily ;P

hey, i know i asked this question elsewhere but i dont remember where so am going to ask it again..!:) Where is this book fair and how long is it going to last for? any ideas?
What’s different in book fairs that is not available in bookshops?
November 28th, 2004 at 9:11 pm
our fellow liberals keep saying that a book wont distract muslims and all that … but i think u agree me that opinions such as Mohammed, the prophet PBUH, failed and all craps albagdadi said FOR EXAMPLE cant be tolerated and defiantly cannot be regarded as “Freedom of Speech”. the way i see islam is in a state of “dynamic constancy” some red lines that cant be crossed and a wider area that 3olama and intellectualists can discuss about freely .. why we have red lines basically i think of them as part of the test itself; i mean part of the belief test is to believe in things that u cant examine or understand .. if Allah knows everything why i need 2 pray 5 times daily? and why it 5 times not 2? and why we have 2 do it in particular way?! .. its part of the lifetime test! .. correct me if i was
wrong..
last point: apparently most people go 2 the fair are of the type who show no real interest in the censored books (only 120 titles) as bookstores are having good money yr after yr!
i remember one more thing! .. they have their agenda and also u have urs and each tries 2 impose his! that is politics my friend
November 28th, 2004 at 9:49 pm
Even freedom as we think we know it encircles some form of censorship! As long as one grants freedom definition and purpose which equate reason; then it is censored! There is no pure freedom.

mint_girl…..its in mishrif arth al ma3arith, goes on till December 3rd!
borashid, to honest, im against ALL forms of censorship, everyone should be able to say whatever they want, and people should have the right to decide for themselves. When u blame Baghdadi for saying what you said, u can censor him, but when u get religious figures telling 16 and 17 yr old kids that they should go to jihad and die martyrs, while they hide in caves or in public positions….can u censor them too?? No! Bcz thats the way the world is now! To make a long story short….personally, im against ALL censorship!
boghazi….i truly hate u! It was a jewish conspiracy!!
