Almost everyone has heard about the latest locust (جراد) attack that has been spreading all over the region! All the way from Mauritania to as recently as Israel today! Apparently, Saudi Arabia is preparing to face them, not sure what the chances are for the locusts to come our way though…
The UN says that this could be the worst locusts plague in 15 years! Their path is as follow: Mauritania, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, and now Israel. These things are freaking scary, listen to this…….The insects, which normally live between two and six months, eat their weight (about 0.07 ounces) in crops every day. They can travel 120 miles a day. Considering that they swarm in millions, thats an incredible amount of food they consume! Anyway, here are a few pics of the recent attacks -

- Faced with an invasion of locusts, the highest Islamic religious institution in Egypt has reportedly issued an edict allowing people to eat locusts.
- In Plato’s Phaedrus, Socrates says that locusts were once human. When the Muses first brought song into the world, the beauty so captivated some people that they forgot to eat and drink until they died. The Muses turned those unfortunate souls into locusts–singing their entire lives.

Funny you mentioned those locusts!! i was bored 2 days ago, given my leg is in a cas i had nothing better to do then to research online…They can fly 9 hours non-stop!!!! they can cover 500KM a day max!!! I wanna be a locust!

I’d like to taste one!
The ones they sell in souq are not edible due to the fact that they were sprayed with plant’s detergents and other chemical substances.

The Funniest thing.. is that early this morning I read the Al-Qabas newspaper and there was this journalist who wrote an article about the locusts and about how 30 years ago or even before that Kuwait used to value the locust because we used to eat them apparently.. But lately the Islamists kept on masacring every single topic of our life such as “Haram” this and “Halal” that.. that they came out with a “Fatwa” that said eating locusts was “haram”.. so yea.. one second they say something is “haram” and the next you see Egypt’s Islamists saying its “halal”.. Jackie, dont forget that Islamists in Kuwait are against women voting or running for elections, while Islamists in Egypt (alazhar for sunnis) and Iran (Qum for shi3is) both allow them! But apparently we know Islam more than anyone else ;P

And I checked ur link, thats pretty amazing! How annoying must it be for those insects?? Waiting 17 yrs until they finally reach a point where they leave their shell….only to die a few months later! sucks to be them, no??

Everyone claims they know religion better than the rest.. and incidently no one is thaaaaaaat experienced in it.. no matter how hard you study it because the text is there.. yet what is being followed upon are theories derived from the text based on you.. hence we are following theories not text..

Talking nutritionally let me point out that a locust provides you with:
(1) high and fast energy supply; the chitin, what covers its body, is digested in few minutes to simple sugars and released into your bloodstream
(2) generally talking, all arthropods, the class that locusts belong to, have high protein-to-size ratio, so if locusts consumption is associated with good exercising you would build and shape muscles faster than if you eat meats! [for those who take amino acids for body building they can forget all about it- just eat locusts!]
(3) unlike human and higher mammals, their blood has no hemoglobin (the pigment that gives the blood its color) but they have another substance that carries more oxygen molecules than hemoglobin does!
(4) significantly enough, they are easy to digest so you can forget all abt constipation!

Purg & Ra1…..its not a sign of the armageddon, its one of the plagues sent to the Pharoah when he refused to free the jewish slaves, its the 8th out of the 10:
1 - All of the water was changed to blood
2 - An infestation of frogs sprang up in Egypt
3 - The Egyptians were afflicted by gnats
4 - An infestation of wild animals (some say flies) sprang up in Egypt
5 - Egyptian cattle died
6 - An epidemic of boils affected the Egyptians
7 - Hail rained from the sky
8 - Locusts swarmed over Egypt 9 - Egypt was covered in darkness
10- The first-born children of the Egyptians were slain by God

I thought Jarad and Fish are the two only animals/organisms that can be eaten even if they were found dead. That’s what kitab ilislamiya said. Now those same people say its 7aram? thats pretty messed up.

Q, you are right that the locusts are from the plagues that struck Egypt however, Purg is not entirely wrong, one of the seven signs of the apocalypse in the book of Revelations in the bible is pestilence and wild beasts..which could be interpereted (because everything is interperetation) as locusts, dead fish, diseases, etc..
“Rev 6:{7} When he opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth living creature call out, “Come!” {8} I looked and there was a pale green horse! Its rider’s name was Death, and Hades followed with him; they were given authority over a fourth of the earth, to kill with sword, famine, and pestilence, and by the wild animals of the earth.”
ALso locusts are directly mentioned in the book of revelations:
Rev 9:3 Then out of the smoke locusts came forth on the earth, and such power was granted them as the power the earth’s scorpions have.
Rev 9:7 The locusts resembled horses equipped for battle. On their heads was something like golden crowns. Their faces resembled the faces of people.

وفى الحقيقة أنا واحد من الناس الذين يقدرون ويحترمون الشيخ سيد طنطاوى لمواقفه الجريئة والتى تخالف مواقف المتأسلمين والغوغاء، وأعلنها جريئة فى محافل كثيرة، ولكن موضوع مقاومة الجراد وأكل الجراد أعتقد أنه أهم كثيرا من الجراد الحقيقى الذى يأكل البقية الباقية من عقول العرب وأمة الإسلام والنى قال عنها الشيخ طنطاوى بنفسه بأنها :”أصبحت أمة من الرعاع”!! وموضوع إستفتاء المشايخ فى كل أمور الحياة أصبح هو الموضة هذه الأيام، أصبحنا نستفتى المشايخ فى كل شئ إبتداء من دخول الحمام الى أكل الجراد، وتعجبت لأن الصحفية الشابة فاتها أن تسأل المشايخ الكرام أسئلة من نوع:
“هل يمكن عمل حلة ملوخية بالجراد؟”
“وماذا عن شوربة كوارع الجراد، هل هى حلال أم حرام؟”
“هل يمكن عمل محشى ورق عنب بالجراد أو طاجن بامية بالجراد؟”

وفى الحقيقة أنا واحد من الناس الذين يقدرون ويحترمون الشيخ سيد طنطاوى لمواقفه الجريئة والتى تخالف مواقف المتأسلمين والغوغاء، وأعلنها جريئة فى محافل كثيرة، ولكن موضوع مقاومة الجراد وأكل الجراد أعتقد أنه أهم كثيرا من الجراد الحقيقى الذى يأكل البقية الباقية من عقول العرب وأمة الإسلام والنى قال عنها الشيخ طنطاوى بنفسه بأنها :”أصبحت أمة من الرعاع”!! وموضوع إستفتاء المشايخ فى كل أمور الحياة أصبح هو الموضة هذه الأيام، أصبحنا نستفتى المشايخ فى كل شئ إبتداء من دخول الحمام الى أكل الجراد، وتعجبت لأن الصحفية الشابة فاتها أن تسأل المشايخ الكرام أسئلة من نوع:
“هل يمكن عمل حلة ملوخية بالجراد؟”
“وماذا عن شوربة كوارع الجراد، هل هى حلال أم حرام؟”
“هل يمكن عمل محشى ورق عنب بالجراد أو طاجن بامية بالجراد؟”

أما المسائل الهايفة والتى لم يكن من المفروض أن نستفتى فيها علمائنا فهى عديدة، وعلى الرغم من هيافتها فأنا حقيقة أرغب فى معرفةالإجابة على الأسئلة الآتية
“هل قتل السيدة الفضلة مارجريت حسن أمام عدسات الفيديو، بعد أن خدمت فقراء الشعب العراقى لمدة 30 سنة متواصلة، هل هو حلال أم حرام ؟”
“هل إستخدام المساجد كمخابئ للأسلحة وأماكن قتال بدلا من أماكن عبادة، حلال أم حرام؟”
“هل الإختباء وراء الأطفال والنساء فى الفلوجة وإستخدامهم كدروع بشرية حلال أم حرام؟”
“هل إجبار الأطفال من سن عشر سنوات على الزواج من مجرمى الفلوجة حلال أم حرام؟”
“هل قتل العمال النيباليين فى العراق حلال أم حرام؟”
“هل قتل أفراد الشرطة العراقية بصفة يومية حلال أم حرام؟”
“هل قتل وذبح الرهائن والتمثيل بالجثث على شاشات التليفزيون حلال أم حرام؟”
“هل قطع لسان العامل المصرى حتى لا ينطق بالشهادة قبل قتله العراق حلال أم حرام؟”
“هل قتل آلاف الأبرياء حول العالم فى نيويورك وواشنطن وبالى ومدريد وأمستردام وتونس وطابا والرياض والخبر وبغداد والقدس وتل أبيب بأسم الإسلام حلال أم حرام؟”
“هل إجبار بعض الفتيات المسيحيات على الدخول فى الإسلام حلال أم حرام؟”
“هل محاولة الإعتداء على الكنائس فى العراق والمعابد اليهودية فى تركيا حلال أم حرام؟”
“هل الإنتحار وقتل النفس والآخرين بدعوى الشهادة حلال أم حرام؟”
” هل إرتكاب كل هذه الجرائم بإسم الإسلام حلال أم حرام؟”
