- Surfing my favorite blogs around, I always make sure to check kwtia’s blog, always full of the most interesting news o mat3oob 3alaih. Anyway, on her latest post, I was wondering about the lack of good news……the comments following were very interesting in my opinion, so I thought of sharing them with everyone else…..

hi guys, Q. I was trying yesterday to look for some good news..it sort of felt icky after going through all the bad news there was..but I am hunting for good stuff and there is a lot out there, just need to find the time to sit on this machine here a little longer..
D&G thanks and I will head on over to your blog in a few minutes..see ya there. And it does seem pretty bleak out there I know, but we can hope.. - At 10:39 AM, PinkSuedeShoes said…

Sorry Kwtia,
But not only can we hope but we can change things too. We are the voices of Now and the voices of the Future. We are the youth that will bear future generations. What do we want to hand our children ? A world that could have been but wasn’t because we were so damn lazy to change things ?
I say Let us Shout. Let Us Scream! Let Us Demonstrate and Make Our Voices Heard. Youth is Power Let Us Wield Our Weapon I say !
Enough Procrastination, and Let Us See Some Demonstration!

PSS, im with u in that!
This is something that has been going around in my head for the past few weeks. Im sick of complaining or tu7ul6uming about everything thats happening in Kuwait. I want to be part of the change!
The backwards Islamists mentality is ruining our beautiful country while we are just watching it go down the drain slowly.
I am yet to find the right ways to start the change. I am sick of thinking that one person will not make a difference, so I started by boycotting KNCC. Its a small, non important move in the bigger scheme of things, but I think they deserve some sort of action following the whole 3ashr awaakhir thing. Im boycotting them, and I know at least 4 other people who are, and I used to be a regular there.
I just wish there was something major that can be started to stand in the face of the darkness! - At 1:06 PM, kwtia said…

Beautiful sentiments guys, and yes of course everyone is the change that needs to happen.. Progressives have been lazy for too long..Moderate sensible Islamists as well..Some not lazy, but just too quiet..however..a movement is not about noise alone, it’s about content and meaning. How many of us can honestly say that we know enough about what needs to change and how to do it..
Rattling the cage is great, but we need the keys right, or at least we need to know how to pick the lock.
Q, great thing boycotting something that has upset you..move on up and boycott other things if they are harming you, like fast foods (anyone who hasn’t seen ‘Supersize Me’ get a copy and show it to all the kids and parents you know)..boycott the green virus that is spreading and making us think that the only way we can have coffee is in a cloned carbon copyed environment that is eliminating home grown, original coffee houses..boycott cars that pollute..refrigerators and home appliances that aren’t energy friendly…boycott the sneakers who use little children in sweatshops and pay them nothing for the hands they burn all day and the fumes they inhale…what else guys? If we want to change the world we need to change first right? What do you believe? What do I believe for that matter?
Gandhi said ‘You must be the change you want to see in the world.” and he also said ‘Live as if your were to die tomorrow. LEARN as if you were to live forever.’
PSS, great drive and anger and yes my God are we lazy, but we also need ammunition in the form of information, we must learn everyday..which is why you guys are so great..info info info..we need people who understand what it takes to use our differences to make us better..we need noise and we need silence too..you need to create a new world right not just get mad about the present one?
Hope comes in all forms, it can be passive and it can be the active belief and effort to see the world differently and try to make it happen..
A little girl, persecuted and hunted, hiding in an attic wrote these words ‘how wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before begining to improve the world’(Anne Frank). Another woman, both deaf and blind, said “to keep our faces towards change, and behave like FREE spirits in the presense of fate, is strength undefeatable” (Heller Keller)
Good way to look at things I say..
Oh by the way Q. Even in a huge dark room, one little candle makes all the difference..don’t worry so much about how much darkness there is, worry about your candle, others will learn how to light their own from your example..

Your just out of ideas so you thought you’d copy & paste from other blogs to come out with a new topic… smart
November 19th, 2004 at 6:24 pm
No, not really! I have a million ideas just waiting to be included in my blog, im serious! But this I thought was very important, I was going to write my comment as a post of its own, but PSS and kwtia’s comments were excellent and had to add it all!
bughazi, seriously…..I want to shake things up! Not sure how though, any ideas?

Ummm… well you can’t do something alone! You gotta get support from some kinda party or something. Lets assume (alta7alof alwa6ani) for starters. I’m aware they had a meeting in Ramadan and they established some committees so maybe by joining those committees you can start spreading ur thoughts and there after you (or we) can do something toward all this nonsense going around in Kuwait. I guess the number one obstacle we’ll face is gathering all the people to work for the cause (what ever that might be). And especially our people (jima3atna al liberals) coz you know how they might be when it comes to (tikissir almiyadeef).
what do you think? will you help me with this?
Actually Q there is something bothering me & making pissed off & that is; not seeing any memorials for our martyrs who died during the Iraqi invasion. The government (yes it’s the government) just don’t want any problems with the new Iraqi government that they eliminated anything related to the Iraqi invasion. For example the streets names after liberation that were named by the people themselves and then it was all renamed by Albaladiya, & also the radio show that talked about the invasion & how were our POWs taken from they’re houses ‘n’ all… this show was stopped after a strong warning from a very high authority after being warned (Wagfaw hal barnamij wila asik alradio ebkobra)!!!
I’m not saying we should hate Iraqis till the day we die but I’m just saying that those people (AlShohada) have died for Kuwait & the least that we can do is build a big memorial for them so our sons & daughters will know about them not mentioning the grand sons & daughters of those martyrs themselves!
I actually had a plan for all that & that’s by collecting signatures from as many people as we can (I don’t think anyone would refuse to sign on this request) and then make copies for all our shitty parliament members (They are shitty but they are the representing us at the parliament & I hate it when ppl ask sobah for things as if nothing can be done without him), & after that the government can’t do anything but to obey the peoples choice!!
Sounds too easy huh

By the way, in France there is a small village called telwar (not sure of the spelling) & in that village they have this small garden and in that garden you’ll see a small memorial they’ve built for a man who sacrificed his life for his people & his country during the Natzi war. Today France & Germany have a very strong relation (simn 3ala 3asal as we may say) but that did not stop the people from remembering this man who died during that war.
I wish we could be like that!

boghazi….i totally know what u mean. This issue really pissed me off when they named the manaa6iq in janoob alsurra, they called one alshuhadaa’ ya3ny khalaas!!
You have tha7yat 3abdalla ilsalim (the only one who deserves a tha7ya by his name), then you have a million dif man6aqa with shyookh names. The new one near mishrif is another mubarak or jabir or something or another alsaba7! Who the hell are these people?? Maybe they were good ppl, o alla yir7amhum, but what did they give their country that warrants naming a whole area by their name??? Any martyr is worth all of them combined because of what they did to their country! I really like the idea of a memorial to them!
As for altajamu3 alwa6any, ive attended the meetings, and was really pleased to see the shift from older generation to the young one. Both my wife and I have been thinking seriously about actively joining the committees.
November 19th, 2004 at 7:43 pm
To be honest I missed that meeting that was held in ramadan so i missed joining any of the committees. So I guess i’ll ask some of my friends on how to join them & check out the activities they have in mind & I might as well submit mine

Let’s see here…
I don’t have kids, and by the looks of it I’m never going to have any. Thus I don’t care about how the future is going to turn out like just as long as I’m not in it.
All I think about is me.
I don’t care if my home appliances are not energy friendly, just as long as they’re working fine.
I love eating whatever I want even if it’s unhealthy. Hell we’re all going to die one day. “Healthy food” is over rated.
I’ll never ever boycott cars.
I don’t care if the world is polluted.
Ghandi said “Live as if you’re going to die tomorrow.”
Indeed Ghandi was a great and wise man.
I don’t care whether KNCC was open the last ten days of Ramadan or not. I rarely go to the movies during Ramadan, so it doesn’t make a difference to me. I love KNCC, they rock.
I don’t care about kids used for labour. I think it’s a good thing actually getting all those naughty kids off the streets and letting them do something productive…
Let’s see what else…
Hmm…. I think I summed it all up.
Life is good.

Oh My God!!! Road naming, whoever mentioned that… that really pisses me off.. I go by f7ai7eel, Sifar, and ma6ar. if someone doesn’t understand I go by numbers. If they still dont understand which road i refer to i refuse to call them byt their new- unnecessary names:) sorry out there, it really does piss me off that our roads are named after kings of another country. On another note, it’s still Jahra road (the one in city) and duwar li3tham in my version of kwuait’s road map.

I never go to KNCC, always buy dvds; its uncensored, no geezan talking behind you about whats happening next, and above all I get a better seat at home. Am gonna hang out in one of those chai places in mubarakiya… Anyone in?

excuse me people. as someone faraway from politics and any political gathering (they are not parties anyhow), I think you have a serious problem
.. sorry guys but its the truth. U need 2 Have objectives better than naming areas, recognizing and honoring the kuwaiti martyrs or kncc closure during the last ten days of the holy month of Ramadan. & let me bring attention 2 ur ta7al6em:) … u r criticizing alti7al6em phenomenon and you keep doing right now. U need to get practical and work under a longterm plan set after finding out UR objectivEs!
by the way, I worked for more than 8 months // weekly & sometimes biweekly meetings// with 2 of the New Young LeadershiP of ur national coalition and they cared only abt themselves and use politics as a mean to reach personal glory and get some social credit.
last point, what was wrong with closing KNCC for the last ten days of the holy month of Ramadan? .. although I do not think the reason WAS religious one, i wont make a big deal of it. i am also with closing shops during the pray time – but I wont agree on forcing ppl 2 go 2 pray nor having religious policemen as saudi arabia does!
November 20th, 2004 at 8:44 am
burasid….its a matter of choice i believe. noone has the right to force others to do or not do a certain thing! including closing cinemas or closing shops during prayer times. i think ppl should respect other people’s decision making ability. i should be the one deciding if i want to go to the cinema or not, i should be the one to choose whether i want my children to learn in mixed or non-mixed jam3a or school, u know what i mean?? Im against enforcing things on other ppl!
Borashid, u say these things r insignificant? Tell me what do u think should be the priority?? Again, back to my earlier point, everyone has the choice to pick whatever cause they believe in, and be able to follow it as far as they want! Some ppl believe environment is the most important thing, they should be able to express that in any way they believe, others may believe in animal rights, they also should be able to do the same. Noone can change everything! As individuals we all strive to make small changes, which hopefully end up in changing things in the bigger scheme of things! Ghandi protested the situation surrounding him by not eating, and look what happened! I think everyone should be able to talk about what they think is wrong and try to change it no matter how insignificant it is to others!
I dont give a damn about whales, but I totally respect ppl who dedicate their life ot saving the whales or whatever their cause is!
November 20th, 2004 at 4:26 pm
hello Q;)
i totally agree with U, no one has the right 2 tell others what 2 do; this is why i would support closing shops and malls during PRAY time and not 2 force ppl 2 pray:) .. u may think that i am contradicting myself but no at all i do not. in Quran there is this verse that asks believers 2 shut down their business and attend the pray … on the same time in another verse Allah tells his prophet that people have the choice to believe or not. so the conclusion is that we do not care abt ur personal beliefs but beyond the individual scale u must respect the Islamic practices and beliefs. of course i do not trust the intension of KNCC but as long as they stopped it, for the sake of the sanctity of the last ten days of the holy month of Ramadan we do not need 2 make a big deal of it ..
regarding the priorities … i thought that what was mentioned is what u think it should be in the agenda of liberals namely ur national coalition and I thought these ideas cannot represent a political gathering. [I respect them if they belong 2 individuals .. but cannot do so if a “political party” includes them in its 2-do list!]
last point. I cannot imagine that ghandi fasting o hal sawalif led to the independence of India !! 1-cause-1-effect kinda of thing does not exist in real life .. at least in my life.
November 20th, 2004 at 4:52 pm
PSS,
I totally respect other people’s opinions, I really do. And I know there are people out there who care about themselves only and don’t give a damn about anything/anyone else (& thats what I understood from GF’s post)… again I respect their opinions as well. However… I believe that this kind of behavior is best described as “Selfish” & not “Bitchinglish” or as GF has put it “Bitchingly”.

Perhaps there is an implicit assumption that sharing “bad” news is a problem solving approach whereby the problem is publicized so as to attract the greatest number of do-gooders to the rescue.
Anything running well is uninteresting…
