Welcome everybody to the second edition of Q’s Restaurant Review. Following my first review last month, The Gaucho Grill, which I went to for dinner, this time I will go for something totally different.

Today’s restaurant of choice will be breakfast at Lenotre.

This is the situation, yesterday my wife and I decided to go for breakfast for the first time ever since our honeymoon. We were both dead tired from the Eid routine and were fast asleep before 11 pm. The problem is that I got up at 2 am, slept, got up at 2:30, slept, got up at 3, slept, got up at 3:45, couldnt sleep again! The most annoying feeling in the world is being dead tired but not able to sleep. Anyway, spent 3 hours reading and surfing the net, then at 7 decided to give it a shot again to sleep. USELESS! After half an hour of tossing and turning in bed, I decided to go for plan B, which is wake my wife up and go out, so I did, I figured more than 9 hours of sleep must be enough, and Im dead bored and need coffee. She got up, which was nice of her, and by the time we were ready to leave it was 8:30ish. Went to starbucks (we’re both starbucks junkies), got our caffeine fix, then headed to Lenotre.

We got there at around 9:10, and were surprised to see 4 tables already full considering that they open at 9 only. It was mostly groups of girls (I have NO clue how or why the hell they had time to put all that makeup on that early in the morning). Anyway, as usual, the staff was very friendly, we sat down, I ordered a buffet, my wife went ala carte and ordered scrambled eggs, we both ordered fresh juice.

As time passed by, more and more coulpes came in, nice atmosphere. Anyway, back to the food. The bread basket came first, and the bread was so fresh and tasty, especially the bread with onion….yummm! Ok, before I go on, I have to explain that Im not a breakfast person, the last time I had breakfast was five months ago, and I cant even remember when I had it before that! So you can imagine how much I missed eggs, and breakfast altogether!

For 5 KD, what you get with the buffet is -

  • Buffet with a selection of fresh fruits, cheeses, mu3ajanat, salads, grilled vegetables, selection of cereals, mini waffles and pancakes, and other light bites
  • Omelette of choice with whatever ingredients you want.
  • Plate of chickpeas (nikhy)
  • Plate of baajilla
  • Plate of falafel with yogurt and tomatos
  • Dessert selection in the buffet
  • Saj sandwich with cheese and cucumber and olives.

All this is just for one person!! The quantity is much more than enough! The price is more than excellent for what you get too. The bread was excellent as mentioned earlier, the buffet is really refreshing. You dont find a selection of cheeses or grilled vegetables usually in other places for breakfast, so this is an added plus. Much better than other breakfast buffets that basically consist of everything deep fried! The selection in the buffet is perfect when you put in mind the other things that come with the buffet.

I ordered my omelette with cheese, onions, mushrooms, and tomatoes. It came quickly, and was ok. How different can an omelette be? Next I had a bit of the nikhy and baajila, it was ok, im not a big fan anyway. Falafel was Excellent!! They were chopped up and mixed with what I think was yogurt and tomatoes, really has to be one of the best falaafel plates ive had. Saj sandwich was good when it first came hot and fresh. Topped it all off with fresh fruits and chocolate banana cake (im always up for chocolate no matter what time of day it is). My wife’s scrambled eggs dish was very good, i liked the jarjeer with it, really adds flavour.

Overall, its the best place for breakfast in Kuwait. Unless you prefer a more american style deep fried sausages hashbrowns bacon kind of thing. If thats the case, then this isnt the place for you. If you add the fact that the view is really nice, and the other guests seem imratabeen, the staff is very friendly, this is something that has to be done more often.

Highly recommended (breakfast only) 91/100
