Condemned Texas inmate dies in apparent suicide
HOUSTON (AP) A death row inmate was found hanging by a sheet in his cell in an apparent suicide, state prison officials said Wednesday.
Deon Tumblin, 27, was found Tuesday evening, officials said. Efforts to resuscitate him at the scene failed and he was pronounced dead in the prison infirmary.
The prison system’s inspector general’s office was investigating.
Tumblin had been condemned for strangling a 75-year-old woman at her home in 2000, then taking her car.
He arrived at the Polunsky Unit of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, northeast of Houston, in early 2001. He did not have an execution date.

Either that or he thought he’d rather kill himself than someone else do it?

Maybe he did it just to spite them. He knew he was going to die anyway so why not take his own life instead of letting them take it.

Sometimes waiting for death is worse than death itself..Death Row is one of the most horrifying places to be. Suicide rates on death row are 5 times higher than in the general population (US statistics).

I got interested in the capital punishment controversy thanks to the amazing New York Review Of Books (nybooks.com)They had a review of several books on the issue a few years ago and ever since then I have kept up with information. You should read ‘Actual Innocence’, it’s a little off topic but related to the misery of the penal system and its errors. You won’t be able to put it down. http://www.truthinjustice.org/actualinn.htm

kwtia, i gave up on reading anything that might piss me off, and showing injustice is one of those things! When I read, i want something that will take me away from the sad reality surrounding us. Either something funny (my latest recommendation would be ‘Join Me’ by Danny Wallace) or something really imaginative or captivating, Im sick of reading things that make me think, really! Maybe its just a phase, probably is, but ill keep ur book in mind when i do get back to being a normal person
