When I got home today, I saw a huge group of kids on girgai3an near my place. My first thoughts were, “awww, this is nice! keeping the traditions.”
Then I noticed 3 things that really pissed me off!
- There were 15 kids, and 12 maids!!! (and yes I counted them)
- Four of the kids were on their mobiles!
- Three of kids were being carried by their maids!
What the hell happened to our society?!?

Q, whenever I have a chance I go bring my young brother from school, & I usually arrive early so I just wait for him in the school’s playground.. anyway, I swear that most of the times I’d be the ONLY KUAITI waiting there!!! the playground is just full of maids and drivers waiting for the kids!!
Its a scary genaration growing in kuwait “Jeel tarbiyat alkhadam”. Hey I understan when both parents are at work, BUT WHAT ABOUT THE MOTHER/FATHER WHO COME ALONG WITH THIER MAIDS !!!!!

bu ghazi, its getting ridiculous, really!
Did u see the girgai3an episode a couple of days ago with the “full option driver”?? The last line of the show, where the mother tells the kids that she will itsaffir the driver they answer “naheee, yumma ibsaraa7a, wijooda raa7a”…..that describes it all!
A couple of weeks ago, i saw a young kuwaiti mother in starbucks with her very young son and 2 maids!! The worst part is that it doesnt just end with having 2 maids for your own young kid…..she actually sat at a table reading her newspaper and drinking her coffee while the 2 maids sat with the young one at another table cutting his food and feeding him! Im sure the kid was old enough to cut his own food, its just too ridiculous!

When I used to do gargai3an we used to have one or two maids with us just as a safety precaution and we were like 15 kids or more, but 12 maids is a bit extreme?! or to think of it maybe the maids themselves were having a taste of the Kuwaiti traditions? NOT .. parents just worry a lot about their kids nowadays .. no one wants to see their kid as another Amna or Karima
Be in that parent’s shoes would you send your kid with a bunch of other kids to do gargai3an alone? keep in mind they’re not just doing the fereej, they’re doing the whole block?
I know I wouldn’t, I certainly must have at least one adult accompanying them…

Absolutely right about having an adult accompanying the kids, at the very least to protect them from crazy drivers running them over
BUT… can’t that adult be a family member instead of a maid/nanny? Or can we simply not be bothered?

I wouldn’t mind accompanying the kids, I miss those good old days .. I don’t think the parents of those kids would go with them they’d probably let an older cousin, brother or sister (someone like 17+ years old) accompany the kids, but knowing the mentality of today’s young adults they’d most probably be like “ay shaay agargi3 weyya il yahaal .. mako shoghol” .. on the other hand, I don’t think the maids mind the free sweets :>
